Poetry is the language of the intuitive spirit. It carries meaning in metaphoric vehicles but can also do the same in simple verses. It can speak about lofty ideas or humble situations, and can bring forth otherwise disguised emotions and experiences. It is beauty and art and passion and creativity, softly and delicately swirled into one sweet rhythm of grace a poem.

Pen Downs by Ian Pinto is an Anthology of poems that the author has written and collected over the years. The book contains 50 poems on various topics. The first few pages have been dedicated to prayer and the Holy Spirit, on who's inspiration the author claims to have written these pieces of poetry. The other pages have verses or musings based on love, life, friendship, death etc.

Some of the poems reflect emotions that are strong enough to stay back in the readers mind, while others are thought provoking. The quotes and the the illustrations add up to make the book interesting. The writing style of the author clearly indicates the author's passion for poetry. Also the usage of simple words makes it easy to understand.
Though all the poems are good my favourite is
1. You Missed
2. I Needed You

My Verdict
A good one time read

The art of poetry is an essential gateway to understanding and appreciating the world around us. Poetry's strength lies in its ability to shed a "sideways" light on the planet, so the truth sneaks up on you. And the poet helps the people to embrace that light to kindle the innate human nature. Poetry teaches us how to live. Poetry is like the shield that protects everyone from the grub in the world and makes the human brain's conscious in fighting the vulnerabilities. The only way to read, analyse and embrace the light shed by great poetry is through the mind of a poet.

In this connection, the poetry book titled Pen Downs by Ian Pinto is an Anthology of poems. The poems are a collection that the author has written and collected over the years. Talking about the contents, the readers get to read fifty poems. The themes of the books vary on different topics.

Ian Pinto's dedication and belief towards the almighty can be understood from the initial pages. These pages contain poems dedicated to the Holy Spirit and prayer. It is indeed a process that almost everyone in the world, that the almighty or the holy spirit is the inspiring power for any task. The other pages have musings, liners and verses. They all are categorised under generalised topics like love, life, relationships, nature, etc.

With a traditional style of stanza writing, his poems will definitely provoke the lost zeal in one's mind. It is often said that poems come out of sadness and bring tranquillity to mind. Also, the simplicity in writing makes the book easily readable. But, when the muse is the almighty and his beautiful creations, the magic just goes into the reader's mind. The liners, along with the illustrations, make the book attractive.

#LITEROMA Book Review :: ‘Pendowns’ by Ian Pinto

** Thanks to our reviewer for reviewing the book on behalf of Literoma. **

The first thing which I loved about this book is its cover. There is a lovely tagline which is written in an epistolary style. Also the simplicity of the cover design rightly captures the tone of the book.

The book title is equally catchy and strokes a warmth in reader's mind. Coming to the contents, Ian Pinto did a satisfactory job. 50 poems wrapped in style. To quote the poet himself, "Poetry is the language of the intuitive spirit." From the cover page though it may seem to be a book of letters, but when the contents unveil, readers will be surprised to find it to be a poetry compilation. Some of my favourites are - Faith, Dawn, Mary, Death, Beguiled and When I met Jesus.

Only recommendation for his next book would be to make it a little thicker content-wise, so that a reader can spend few evenings with it. For me, I just finished it over a single coffee. We would like to wish Ian, the young poet, all the very best for his future.

Our overall rating: 3.5*/5*.

Cover: the cover gives a simple comfortable vibe. 4/5 rating.

Speaking of the content, one could expect to have a pleasant reading experience. The poems touch raw emotions of the soul and speaks at a different level.

The pros of the compilation include good grammar, good concepts exploration, works well for beginner readers too.

There are no cons as such.

Recommendation for all age groups.
