A fast-paced, thematically linked book of lyrics about addiction, personal trauma, and the attempt to parse it all. From the first to the third (and final section) the distance between reader and speaker becomes less and less. This progress lends to rediscovery of the various metaphors and ways knowing presented throughout (glass, air, light, flowers, birds, distance) with Dickinsonian top-of-head-taking drive. There are certainly some stand out poems in-and-of-themselves in this collection (especially "Young," the penultimate poem in the book), but I tend to read books as a whole, especially when you can cover to cover them in about an hour. Read in that way, I really enjoyed this book.
