Pseudonym of Yann le Pennetier or Lepennetier, who also publishes as Balac, is a French comics writer.
In the closing days of World War II, German pilot Hanna Reitsch makes a dangerous trip to Berlin to receive her final orders directly from Hitler and ask him a question that has been nagging at her conscience.
And while she thinks she knows everything about the childhood friend who has tried to secretly steal into her life to stop her top secret bombing project, he has an unnecessary and far-fetched secret yet to be revealed. It's such a groaner that I have to immediately knock a star off my rating. Ugh.
I'm still going to read through to the conclusion though to see if the creative team can win me back.
To date this has been an exceptional series about three friends torn apart by the rise of Hitler and the outbreak of war. The first two volumes have taken the time to show us the depth of that initial friendship, the friends’ passion for aviation, and how, years later, two of them find themselves on opposite sides as the war draws to a conclusion.
The aviation thread runs through every aspect of the storytelling, and Henriet’s artwork does it immense justice in all the various forms of flying machines he depicts. Also, some of the artwork in this volume reminded me of Alan Davis’s work, and that’s definitely a thumbs up from me.
So it is a story about flying, but at its heart it’s a tale of friendship, trust, honour and ambition. Throughout the previous books there’s been one character not properly accounted for, and the reason for that is finally explained within these pages – and it’s a shocker too.
The creators have managed to pull off their WWII tale by offering an utterly different and compelling angle, and it’s proof again of what’s achievable by the medium. Just imagine the CGI efforts and expense to create all those variants of aircraft. I’m also pleased to see that a second series is hinted at. That would be most welcome.
25 avril 1945.
Engels Part three again. Our friends are faced with heartbreaking choices. We'll get to know most of their youth now, I suspect. This part contained a big surprise for me that I did not immediately saw coming. I am curious about the rest of the series.
Not the strongest book in the series so far. There are some interesting twists that do explain some of the earlier events a little, but still the quality is not as great this time around.
The quality drops too much compared to the first issue, and even the second issue has a better plotline. I didn’t like the twists about Max and Werner revealed here, despite some oddities that it comes to explain, nor the ending. Another point I have issues with is the portrayal of General der Luftwaffe Adolf Galland, which borders on silly here.
The third entry seems to end end this season somewhat abruptly to be honest, that being said some of the revelations that take place lift it back up and allow you to forgive it. Looking forward to more.
In this volume, we get a twist that I definitely wasn't expecting.
In the last volume, we saw Max and Hannah interact and reconnect really - as you can see that there is a bond there that transcends the years spent away from each other. However Yann writes Hannah as someone who is already brainwashed and adamant about the Nazi party. So while Max still has hope, Hannah seems to be too far gone.
However, we find out that Like I said, I definitely didn't see this coming, and it really was quite a twist for me.
Again, the art is impeccable, but for this volume, I think the story shined a bit more. Highly recommended for fans of this series.
Uçma meraklısı üç arkadaşın hikayesi Werner'in adını alan bölüm ile tamamlanır sanıyorsanız yanılıyorsunuz. Max, Hanna ve Werner'in Silezya'da başlayan öyküsü, Hitleri'in iktidara gelmesi ve Max'ın babası ile Amerika'ya göç etmesinin bilinmeyen ayrıntılarının açığa çıkışı ile renkleniyor. Hanna'nın dahil olduğu "Project A. Bomber"in nasıl şekilleneceğini takip eden ciltlerde öğrenmiş olacağız.
Was good. Nothing too crazy. Didn’t realize there is more than 3 books and my library only has the first 3 so I won’t be continuing. It was good and interesting to see how spies played a part in the 2nd World War.
