Desolation the continued journal of a sequence of events occurring over a short period of time and in a more specific location in space.
Desolation Wilderness is part of an ongoing project looking at 'landscape and memory' - our relationship with the environment and it's profound affect on our own memory and emotions.
There is a place called Desolation Wilderness. It is real. It does exist. This collection of drawings is based on the notion of the 'idea' of a place, assumptions that are made about the nature of its existence and where its boundaries lay.
Each landscape is part of a journey through a new and unfamiliar environment, exploring the intersection between physical experience and memory.
I would consider this more a small art book than I graphic novel. The reason for that is that except for the last page there are no words. Basically it's a wordless picture book. As a little piece of art I think it's a cool little book and I really like the artwork in it, but I disagree that this is a graphic novel. I will say it does seem like it would be hard to classify this book, so maybe that is what the author/publisher decided on, but who knows. So as a cool little art book that could inspire you, sure, but as a graphic novel I would pass on this book.
It's a beautiful piece of art, and less of a book with a story. It's a piece that allows for reflection and introspection. It's great to read after practicing mindfulness activities.
