2 Action-packed Stars!
Spoilers!!
I have been waiting for this book for almost a year, and normally it doesn't bother me when authors take awhile longer to release, but I do expect the book to be fantastic. Sadly, this book didn't live up to my expectations, which sucks because I have been so excited to read it, and I love Nina's books, so it saddens me more to write this review.
I have read all of Nina's MC books, and unfortunately, this is probably one of my least favorite books, and couples, of hers. I did like Zara more than I thought I would based off of Kings books, but Fury kind of ruined it for me. I didn't like him AT ALL. What he did wasn't really bad compared to other books I read, but my stomach was in knots pretty much the whole time until the end, with how much I disliked him.
First, they start having strong feelings for each other, which moved WAY too fast, then he finally claims Zara as his, like halfway into the book, so we finally think we are getting somewhere, but nope, he finds out he got a club whore pregnant. He tells Zara they can't be together because he wants to try to be a family with said club whore. I understand WHY he did this, but it doesn't really justify it, especially to Zara. And he didn't like Lynette at all, and I'm supposed to believe they lasted almost 4 years together? I hated him more especially because of all that Zara has been through, and he goes and pulls this crap on her, I really felt for her, and how liked how adult she acted, but she acted maybe a little TOO well for me.
Fast forward 4 years, Zara moves back, Fury and his baby mama have been seperated for only like 6 months, and he's off having sex with other women. This whole part bothered me. How can you want someone as much as he wanted Zara, that you finally want a relationship, but so quick to get back with another woman and have sex with her, and then other women right after the 4 year relationship, all while still thinking of Zara the whole time? Ya no. But then he is so quick to want to get back together with Zara when she moves back, and she accepts him right away, without even really having a full conversation with each other. That bothered me too. I would NOT have done that, especially with how quick he broke it off the first time. I probably would have been better with it, had she been in any meaningful relationships with other men during that time. I officially hated their relationship at this point.
After all of this, they're back together of course, and it is mostly club action, which is another thing I have a problem with. Everything is SO CONFUSING! I have literally no clue what is going on with what with the club buisness. There is no reminding us of who is who in previous books, and I was constantly going back to see if they had appeared before, especially the rivals, whose names were even more confusing. So pretty much, I just wanted to skip all the club buisness.
And lastly, everything moved TOO fast! From the rape, to the PTSD, to their feelings, the break up, the recovery from the rape, to getting back together, and the club buisness. We never had any time to actually breathe before more problems arose. There was just too much going on in this book, and I couldn't keep up with any of it. Overall, this isn't Nina's greatest book, and I will probably be confused in the next book too, because I had no idea what happened in this one, but I'm still going to read Nina's future works, especially being so invested now, and hopefully future ones will be better.
