Un libro que narra la historia del pueblo escogido de Dios, desde la conquista de Canaán hasta la restauración de Nehemías y Esdras luego del cautiverio, con un lente claramente arminiano, aunque no por ello carente de un gran valor académico (Incluso, el autor no tiene reparos en manifestar luces de lo que se podría llamar la doctrina reformada de la soberanía de Dios, demostrando con eso que no es tan consistente teólogo como exégeta). Es un manual/resumen bastante bueno de la historia, con algo de análisis. Lo mejor del libro es la claridad que Hoff tiene de extraer valiosas enseñanzas de la historia de Israel, que al final, es uno de los propósitos de que esta revelación haya quedado para nosotros. Como lo manifiesta Pablo "estas cosas les acontecieron como ejemplo, y están escritas para amonestarnos a nosotros" (1Co 10:11). Es el tipo de enseñanza que debemos extraer.
