*A laugh out loud cozy mystery by New York Times Bestseller Addison Moore*
My name is Lottie Lemon, and I see dead pets. Okay, so on occasion I see a dearly departed human, too. And, unfortunately for me, that horrible scenario is playing out right this minute. Worse yet, that good-looking ghost just so happens to look just like my friend, Everett, and it refuses to leave his side. I’m petrified of losing Everett, so much so that I too refuse to leave his side, which of course doesn’t exactly bode well with my newly minted boyfriend, Noah Fox, who is just as comely as his surname suggests. After two horrific murders just took place in our small town of Honey Hollow, I’m ready to put the last few months behind me, but when I come across another gruesome discovery, my entire world comes crashing down on me once again.
Lottie Lemon has a brand new bakery to tend to, a budding romance with perhaps one too many suitors, and she has the supernatural ability to see dead pets—which are always harbingers for ominous things to come. Throw in the occasional ghost of the human variety, a string of murders, and her insatiable thirst for justice, and you’ll have more chaos than you know what to do with.
Living in the small town of Honey Hollow can be murder.

Pumpkin Spice Sacrifice is book three in the Murder in the Mix series by Addison Moore.
To start Chapter 1 is a repeat of who Lottie Lemon is, what she can do, who her friends and family are and last who her boyfriend is. It's nothing new. If you haven't read the series then you know what's what at the start, but for those that have read in order it's just a repeat of information we already know about. It felt redundant.
As for the murder mystery it wasn’t in the forefront. And, what Lottie does to get answers in solving the mystery like going to The Jungle Club, you can guess what that is, and a nude swim class well let me just say the areas aren’t something Lottie would go to, so it was out of character. I just shook my head at what she was willing to do to get answers. It was all to far-fetched to me.
Then we have her friends, family, and boyfriend that keep telling her over and over to stay out of the investigation. She says she will, but she doesn’t. Now I get that we don't have a story without her getting involved, but something about her, her profession, and her breaking her promises make me wonder. Her character just doesn't make scenes to get involved in mysteries.
Then their is the drama with her boyfriend Noah. She likes him, but she’s unsure. She’s keeping secrets from him. She plans to to tell him, but their ends up being to many disagreements or miss understandings. I just didn’t care for all the drama. Either they are together and trust each other or they are not together.
Last, Lottie is a baker and runs a bakery, but I don’t know how she makes any money when she keeps giving all her baked goodies away for free.
On a positive note: I like the revamp in the covers for this series. It’s better then the first publication and very cute. I like Edward, Noah’s brother, and I like Lottie’s friends.
Pumpkin Spice Sacrifice was ok. As for the Murder in the Mix series it has some interesting concepts and nice characters, but it’s just not working out for me. I gave the series a three book try, but I won't be continuing. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.
Lottie, Noah and Everett are in for some interesting days when this time Lottie doesn’t see a dead animal, but the ghost of someone special to Everett, signifying that someone will die soon. This time there are LOTS of people to interview to locate the killer. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
I borrowed a copy of this book from Kindle Unlimited.
This time around Lottie Lemon becomes a suspect when someone is poisoned at an event Lottie catered. Despite being a suspect, Lottie just can't resist investigating the murder she is accused of. Unfortunately, when she is cleared, suspicion falls on someone close to her making her even more determined to find the real killer. She risks an important relationship and even her business to reveal the killer.
These cozy mysteries are fun and easy. I have to admit that I like Lottie better in the previous books. IDK. Instead of coming across as naive about criminals and some of the sexual topics that come up in the investigation, she seemed prudish about the sex and just plain dumb when it came to the danger of getting close to potential murderers. I know, I know, I need to back up a second and remind myself - cozy mystery. Luckily, I like the supporting characters very much. If it wasn't for the love triangle she has building with her neighbors, I'd probably put these aside for a while. Now I am left wondering what will happen next with Lottie, Noah, and Everett.
A light, easy read cozy with a heroine who never gives up but who seems to be stuck with the wrong guy. Okay it was fairly obvious who the culprit was even if there was a hoard of suspects. She has been asked to supply bakery goods for a local company's award ceremony. What neither she nor anyone else present expected was for one of the award winners to die as she accepted her award. Now the spotlight is on Everett as the main suspect. She does not believe that for a minute so she starts investigating. Only to land herself in hot water with the detective (and brother of Everett) that she has fallen for. Although when she tries to push their relationship to the next level he always puts up obstacles. Naked swim aerobics, secrets of the dead woman's sex life and more suspects them she can count. Who had the motive to end her life? Can she clear things up within a few days so that Everett's professional career isn't affected.
♡ first time diving into the cozy mystery genre and I quite enjoyed it! ♡ plot was simple and had no crazy twists but I guess that’s what makes it fit in this genre~ ♡ characters were likable but tbh, lottie did turn me off a few times: -- --
will probably read the following books and see how it goes :>
EDIT: ALSO the "there's murder in this cup!" line is ✨ iconic ✨ babes
Lottie has seen Everett’s father who has passed a whole back. She finally tells him and they both figure out it is because he is going to be set up for murder. He has come back to help.
Now Everett is the prime suspect in the case. One of his ex’s girlfriends is dead. She was murdered and they think rom the pills he gave her.
Can Noah and Lottie help him or will this come between them?
Another great story in this series. All the characters are funny and a joy to read about. You always want to know what is around the corner or what Lottie will get herself into.
Lottie runs a bakery and is looking forward to competing in the local pie contest to win a cargo van for her business. Also, she has the talent to see ghosts of animals. Only this time, a woman dies at a party she is catering and she instead, sees a human ghost connected the her friend who is a suspect. So she feels the need to investigate and clear his name.
I enjoyed the story - likable characters, a good mystery, a little romance and a little WooWoo... Fun!
I thought this would be october.. Well december next! This is just an easy, no pressure book and just a little break from all the long, complicated ones
Oh my goodness!!! Sp I'll be honest when I say I love the Murder in the Mix series. Lottie Lemon, Noah Fox, and Essex Everett Baxter have stolen my heart!! But this book, THIS BOOK has stolen everything I though I knew about a few key characters!! Pumpkin Spice Sacrifice has topped out for my new favorite in this series!! The ending will leave you shaken and wanting more. Well... except for one exceptionally unpleasant character alive again. Lottie lands herself in a whole lot of trouble at the beginning of a particularly busy season for her. With so MANY suspects and so much motivation for all of them. Will she find the murderous culprit before the clock runs out? This is a MUST READ!! Addison hits it out of the park YET AGAIN!!
No spoilers, just a review that will leave you wanting MORE!!
There are countless mysteries to solve in the third Murder in the Mix story, and my guesses kept changing as to who was the actual killer of another Honey Hollow resident when each one was answered. Addison Moore keeps building the intrigue as to what resulted in the latest murder in the usually quiet town. Lottie Lemon is known for her baking skills, but cannot stop herself from searching for clues when she wants justice for the victim and fairness for potential suspects. I was immediately pulled into her first escapade to get evidence, and each of her following adventures had me eager to see what she would experience next.
Since Lottie Lemon has seen the ghosts of people and animals for many years, she was not shocked when an apparition appeared. Yet it certainly did upset her more than usual since the spirit is connected to someone who means much to her, as their presence generally means something terrible is about to happen to the living individual. Though her boyfriend, Noah Fox, seems to be safe, another man whom she is coming to know well may not be so lucky. Lottie fears that Honey Hollow may be about to have another murder, but not if she can somehow stop it this time.
With its charming characters and delightfully entertaining storyline, PUMPKIN SPICE SACRIFICE is constantly engrossing. Lottie is such a compassionate person, and her caring for others repeatedly puts her in difficult situations. Some of the circumstances are very laughable, like her swim class, while other incidents are suspenseful and caused me to be emotionally affected. Her relationship with people, from Noah and her family plus friends to those who could be a suspect, is always vividly portrayed with plenty of honest reactions and some fascinating conversations. Any details revealed about the homicide only made me read faster to see if I was on the right track. I am so glad there are future books in the series.
The mystery is good, as is Lottie gift of being able to see ghosts of pets (and a person or two at times), but I got real tired real fast of the main character's constant sex-on-the-brain. Nothing graphic, but Lottie spends a lot of time talking about wanting to have sex, going to a sex club, sex toys found in a dead person's home, and a nude swim at a gym, and not enough time sleuthing, imo.
When Lottie is actually sleuthing, there's always food. I got hungry with all the descriptions of cookies, pies, a Thanksgiving buffet, etc. Yet there isn't a single recipe in this book, sadly. Lottie is supposed to be a superb baker; where's a pie or cookie recipe??
Another thing that bothered me: Noah. He sounds like a male Mary-Sue. No man is that perfect. None.
Do I recommend this book? Yes, actually. The mystery parts really are good.
This fast fun read is chock full of laughable moments and even more surprises. Beware: you will crave cookies and all sorts of autumn food! Truly an enjoyable book.
With this book, I did something I rarely ever do – read a series out of order. The things I do for my GR bingo game – I needed a cozy mystery with an orange cover or set in autumn that I could get my hands on relatively quickly. This book was part of my Audible+ library, although it’s one of the few I’ve added that are narrated by ‘Virtual Voice.’ I’m not a fan of AI narration, as it takes jobs away from talented voice actors, but decided to give it a shot. It wasn’t as bad as I’d feared, but I’m still not a fan and will choose a real person over AI every time I have a choice.
As for the book, it was ok, maybe because this is book #3 in the series and I haven’t read either of the previous two books. I think I like Lottie, but the jury is still out on that. She appears to have a good group of people around her, and I love Pancake, the cat. I didn’t know enough about the murder victim to be able to discern why someone would kill her, or even who the most likely suspects might be, so I wasn’t able to figure out whodunit until just before the reveal in the book. The motive was classic, and not surprising at all.
I liked this book enough to want to go back to book #1 and start the series from there. That will help me decide if I want to keep going with the series or abandon it and move on to something else.
Okay, so I've made it to book #14 in this series, and I feel like I need to post a review for all the books I've read up to this point. These books rea all set pretty close together, so it's almost like you're reading one big, long story or watching a TV drama or soap opera. There are some really fun, interesting things in these books, and some other things that are problematic.
Things that I like:
The setting - Honey Hollow is one of those adorable little towns that exist almost exclusively in rom-com books or cozy TV shows. Think Stars Hollow, but in Vermont. It's the kind of town that has absolutely no major corporations in the downtown area. No McDonald's, no Walmart's, nothing. Everything is family owned. Every business decorates for whatever event/holiday/season is coming up or going on and everyone in town is always at every event. I'm here for that. If I could find this kind of town in RL, I would be in heaven. I'm sure that some place, somewhere, is like this, and I haven't found it yet, so that's why I'm saying it's almost exclusively in books or shows. But I do really love this little town.
Most of the side characters - I love Keelie and Meg the most of the side characters, but Lainey, Brittany, and even Cormack are fun and have enough quirks to keep them interesting. I'm not saying they are perfect, but they are a lot of fun and I want a friend group just like them.
The premise - I'm not going to do spoilers for any of the books, but this isn't really a spoiler, since it is literally the first paragraph in every book. Lottie's power is really cool and something different from the normal cozy mystery realm. She sees ghosts of pets and people who are there to help her solve a murder of someone they are close to. Love this idea. It's really what sets this series apart from the other cozy mystery type stories. The fact that her powers do grow and shift, and her reaction to them, is something that seems like normal reactions.
Everett - I really like Everett. He's understanding, has his own demons, is a calming force on Lottie, and really cares about her. He tells her things that he's hidden from others in the past, which just shows how much he cares for her. And he's willing to give her time to figure things out on her own. He also supports her in everything, but mostly in her investigations. He knows she's going to do whatever it is she's going to do, so he tags along to make sure she's as safe as she can be in the situation. He doesn't try to fit her in a box of his own expectations, but lets her be her own person, which is very refreshing.
Things I'm on the fence about:
Lottie - Yes, the FMC herself. First of all, I do like Lottie. She has a lot of good points, and she genuinely cares about people and is fiercely loyal to her friends and family. She is stubborn and keeps going, no matter what obstacles are in her way. I like that part of her. However, the other part of her is a complete mess. The woman cannot make up her mind about her love life and frankly, it's pretty darn annoying. I get that it's easy to be attracted to two different men at once, but if she actually sat down and looked at how each of them treats her, she would be able to make her choice. That part of her makes her seem kind of airheaded and jealous all the time. I really don't like that treatment of her, even though those are normal emotions and behaviors, and she is relatable. But given how focused she is in her business and the other parts of her life, it's almost like the author is afraid to make a choice for Lottie and make someone mad. Which just leaves everything in a long, drawn-out romantic triangle that no one really asked for.
Things I really don't like -
Both of Lottie's mothers - Look, the backstory of Lottie's birth mom having been a teenage who got pregnant and left her to be adopted by her "parents" is good. Love the back story and the support Lottie gets from her adoptive family is great. But both of her moms act like they are mean girls in high school and the only thing they have to do is fight each other over who has which guy as a boyfriend now. After hearing about how much Miranda loved her deceased husband and spent 10 years not dating, to have her having a revolving door of dates now seems a bit of an overkill. I do think that people can and should have meaningful relationships after their SO's pass on, but her relationships seem so superficial and juvenile. Carlotta, on the other hand, has every reason to distrust men (that we know of. We don't get a whole lot of background on where she was and what happened for the 29 years she was gone), but she just jumps back into competing with Miranda for every man in her life. It's very 1980's soap opera-ish. And really, it's somewhat distracting to the main stories.
The constant repetition - There are certain words/phrases/paragraphs that seem as if they are just lifted from one book and dropped right into the next. Do we really need the first paragraph (which is also the blurb for every single book) about Lottie and her ability to see the dead? Couldn't the author think of a different way to work it in somewhere in the first chapter or so? Why don't we get any background as to why Lottie's powers are suddenly escalating? But nope, just the same "I'm Lottie Lemon and I see dead pets." every single story. Also, why does everyone refer to Lottie almost exclusively as Lottie Lemon? It's not like Lainey comes in and someone always says, "Lainey Lemon!" I'm sure there are multiple ways to keep putting her last name in there, if that's what the author is really wanting to do. And the shoulder shimmy and hip bump. It's like those phrases are used 40-50 times per book. The books are not that long at all. There is no reason for someone's shoulders to do a shimmy every other chapter or so.
Noah - I know this will probably cause some hurt feelings, but Noah is not a likeable character. He is controlling and stalkerish. His and Lottie's meet cute was cute. I enjoyed that. But then, Noah got problematic. I enjoyed the beginning of his relationship with Lottie. He was her pick, and Everett was there in the background, but I was fine with Noah. UNTIL Brittany showed up. Do you mean to tell me in SIX MONTHS Noah couldn't find one second to have a serious conversation with the woman he said he was falling in love with to tell her that his divorce was not finalized yet? Oh, his bad. He "forgot" to tell her. Just like he "forgot" to tell her that he put a tracker on her car. Is that even legal? Oh, and cameras pointing at her front door? Really? Hello, stalker. And when Lottie, who did not want to be the other woman, tells him that yes, she has feelings for him, but she is done with him because of his wife, he refuses to accept that. Instead of figuring out his relationship with Brittany (and Cormack -but that's next), he continuously busts in on Lottie and Everett. That really bothered me. Lottie set boundaries and eventually, when things had settled down, she and Noah could have been really good friends, but he refuses to accept the boundaries. He constantly interrupts Lottie and Everett, breaking in whenever they are alone and making snide comments about Everett. You know who doesn't do that later? Everett. When he tells Lottie to figure out who she wants to be with, he even says no to getting physical with Lottie so she can decide for herself between Noah and Everett. But Noah? Nope, Lottie is his toy and he can't stand other people touching his toys. And then, he "accidentally" gets engaged to Cormack and "can't find a way" to tell her that they are actually not engaged. He takes her on dates. Takes her to dinner. Takes her to relationship counseling. Let's Cormack throw them an engagement party. And through all of this, he keeps telling Lottie that "he just can't figure out how to get Cormack to understand." Idk, dude. Maybe stop taking her on dates? Slap her with a restraining order? You're a detective. Figure it out. OH, and that brings me the worst part of Noah (if you can believe that). He doesn't want a relationship with Lottie. He wants to own her and to put her in a box or on a shelf. The whole first part of their relationship is him telling Lottie to stay out of everything and be a good girl and get back in the kitchen. Look, I get she's a baker and he's trying to keep her safe. But there is ALWAYS a point in the books that he realizes she's far ahead of him in the investigation and all of a sudden, it's fine for her to be involved. As long as she follows his rules and does exactly what he says.
So, I read through the first 13 pretty quickly and have started 14. But I think I'm going to take a break, because the things I am annoyed with are slowly starting to outweigh the things that I like about this book series. Hopefully, when I go back and pick it up again, I'll be able to enjoy the stories once again.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Lottie, Noah, and Everett are back, and again, Lottie and her bakery are embroiled in a murder at an award event Lottie caters. This time, once she’s cleared, Everett is the prime suspect, so she’s compelled to investigate to get him back on the bench, much to the chagrin of Noah. I don’t understand that dynamic. Drives her crazy that he doesn’t want her investigating, drives him crazy that she investigates, yet they continue.
I liked this story. The main characters are believable, endearing, and fun. The plot is straight forward with a paranormal twist, and the ending is most satisfactory.
In Pumpkin Spice Sacrifice, Murder in the Mix book 3, Addison Moore mixes up the recipe (so to speak) by having animal ghost-seeing baker Lottie Lemon spot a human ghost--the lookalike father of Judge Essex Everett Baxter. Everett, the handsome judge and ex-stepbrother of Noah (Lottie's equally handsome love), doesn't see the ghost and depends on Lottie to deliver messages between them. In that way, the formerly estranged men exchange forgiveness and resolve their issues. However, Collette the insatiable stalker who wants Everett for herself, drops dead at an awards banquet with "Poison" as her last word, and it starts an investigation for PI Noah, who's been assigned to the sherriff's department in Harvest Hollow, Vermont-- and partnered with Ivy Fairbanks, who freezes out everyone in town except for Noah...who warns Lottie again to stay away from the case. Again, Lottie doesn't listen, and their fight tells her their time together may be ending. The official investigation is mysterious--Noah signed a contract not to reveal any information about his and Ivy's progress--but Lottie tags along with Bear, her ex-boyfriend and cousin of the victim from book 2, to collect his remaining construction tools from Collette's house...and discovers that Collette was into kink! Asking around yields lots of info from the disgruntled receptionist at Collette's former employer, who wanted to be Collette's "side girl" in a menage with Collette and their boss and was refused. She also cleared the young man who gave Collette mouth-to-mouth after her collapse, saying he wasn't her type and couldn't have been involved in her orgies at the strip club in the next town. Another suspect is cleared when Lottie and her best friend Keelie follow her to a water aerobics class where all participants swim in the nude. The pool (pun inended) of suspects is rapidly shrinking! Finally, Lottie attends the Thanksgiving "picnic" for Collette's former employer and trails the boss's wife to a kitchen, where the wife confesses that she laced some pills with poison and gave them to her cheating husband, intending to kill him, but he gave them to Collette, who hated pills and asked Everett to crush them into powder and pour it into her latte. So her death was a mistake, but the intent was enough to charge her with murder. Seeing that Lottie's solved the case, the guilty wife seizes a kitchen knife; Lottie seizes another, and Noah arrives with deputies and a gun just before Lottie is stabbed. This book has a sweetness to it: the reconciliation between Everett and his ghostly father, the loose-lipped receptionist, and eventually the implied consummation of love by Lottie and Noah. It also has spice: the way seeing a ghost freaks Lottie out, the kinky side of Collette and her "friends", and eventually the implied consummation of love by Lottie and Noah! I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Harvest Hollow, and I think you will, too. Highly recommended!
This is the third book in the Murder in the Mix series by Addison Moore.
What a fun and pumpkin spicy read. There was definitely a lot of pumpkin spice everything in this book. Plus there was more than spice than pumpkin as Lottie, Noah and Everett investigate a murder that leads to a spicy and exotic club.
I am reading this book as a part of my own #BuzzwordReadathon featuring the word SPICE so it really fits my reading prompt. I love everything pumpkin spice.
Lottie Lemon is a baker and has opened a new bakery to sell her goods. Because of the good name she has garnered, Lottie is providing the baked goods for a local award ceremony. At this ceremony a woman falls dead as she accepts her award. One of Lottie’s friends, Everett, is accused of the diabolical deed and Lottie makes it her focus to get him cleared of all charges. This seems like a no-brainer since Lottie’s new boyfriend, Noah Fox, is a police officer. All Lottie proves to do during the story is make Noah jealous of all the time she is spending with Everett. You begin to wonder which man is Lottie meant for? The ghost of Everett’s dead father makes an appearance here and there during the investigation since Lottie has the gift to see the dead. If there was a dead pet, like the synopsis above suggests, I didn’t notice them. And maybe I just thought they were alive and missed the whole “dead” aspect of the animal.
This cozy was quite a tame one since most of the “romance” of the story was forefront and the cozy mystery part of the story was pushed to filler to round out the novel. I wish there had been more attention to the mystery part. I think this book could have been fifty pages longer to fulfill that need.
I enjoyed digging into the live of Lottie Lemon and look forward to the many other books in this series since there are a fair few. If you love a good foodie cozy mystery with an abundance of romance, definitely check this one out!
As an afterword, I have to say that I really appreciate the cute and cool covers these novels have. What a great designer Addison Moore has tapped into!
Hilarious laugh out loud moments 😂, mixed with sweet sentimental ones, sprinkle in some paranormal thrills, a smidge of mystery, and you've got a recipe for the perfect cozy read. 💓 Lottie Lemon has already baked her way into my heart.
Loved these books and I absolutely love the author. Addison Moore . She's magical with words. Truly.
"And just like fall, one of my favorite seasons of the year, I too feel as if I came into my own right along with it. I had never realized how much I held onto the failures of the past, the rejection, the abandonment that plagues me had all become etched over my soul like a badge of dishonor, and unbeknownst to me I had worn it with pleasure. I think it’s time to remove the badge, remove the shame and the disgrace that others have inflicted, that I may have inflicted on myself. It’s time to discover a new version of who I am and all that I can be. Time, in fact, has been my greatest teacher, ushering me through each new phase of my being. The metamorphosis continues as I stretch my wings and fly, as I fly so high I touch the stratosphere with the new opportunities presented to me. And I look forward to each new discovery as I lift the boulders of the past off my spirit, brush the dust off myself, and enter into the light of this new life. It is a beautiful, beautiful thing to realize that you are not defined by who you once were, that life is ever-evolving around you, and that you, in fact, are along for the magical ride."
Funnier than Janet Evanovich and addicting as Twilight, Addison is worth a thousand reads! *Murder in the Mix Books 1-3
I am not sure if I have mentioned how much I love Addison Moore's work or not, but she is just amazing and this series has me waiting on pins and needles for the next book. I am sad it is to be the last in the series but that is how these work.
I must say I am a huge fan of Lotties. She is such an amazing person who has so much love to give to all of those she cares about. Of course, that is not to say that it does not tend to get her in a wee bit of trouble from time to time. In this book, she sees a person and not an animal, and has to help out MR. Sexy. Lottie is busy trying to keep her bakery running smoothly as the Thanksgiving rush comes on along with trying to enter a pie contest and, also cater events, when things go wrong and she finds herself trying to make sure her good friend and neighbor Everette is not arrested for Murder. Lottie always seems to get in the middle of these things and they really vex and worry her boyfriend Noha, who is always worried that something might happen to her. He also worries that she might get in the way of his investigation.
THIS ONE IS THE BEST SO FAR IN THE SERIES AND I HAVE LOVED THEM ALL SO FAR. This has been a real page turner and kept me guessing all along.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lottie Lemon is back with a new adventure, just in time for Fall in Honey Hollow! This time she's causing trouble at an award banquet. When one of the attendees drops dead and her friend Everett becomes a potential suspect, Lottie must put her ghostly skills to the test to find a killer and save Thanksgiving.
The Murder in the Mix mysteries are fast becoming one of my favourite series. They are fairly quick addictive reads and every visit makes me love Honey Hollow even more.
Lottie sees dead animals, right before something happens... usually a death. However, in Pumpkin Spice Sacrifice Lottie gets a visit from a different kind of ghost, who is connected to her friend Everett. I really like how this is changed up and how it plays out for Everett and Lottie's relationship.
I really love Honey Hollow. It's such a sweet cozy town, well apart from all the murders. It sounds especially beautiful in the Fall, with the smell of pumpkin pies in the air! This time the murder takes place just outside of Honey Hollow, and Lottie and her friends explore the town of Ashford to solve the murder.
I liked the mystery and it kept me guessing until the end! The victim was not who I was expecting and the final denouement definitely wasn't either. It was a perfect read for #MysteryMarch to be utterly surprised!
This series just keeps getting better and better with each book you pick up, Addison Moore really knows how to write a gripping story and knows how to plot her mysteries. The tale continues on for Lottie Lemon and things just keep heating up. You can’t help but fall in love with the characters or be swept away by the story. I know for a fact that once this series do end I’ll be sad because I have thoroughly enjoyed it and seriously have fell in love with Lottie. The writing was perfect yet again and I was hooked until the very end. Addison has done an amazing job, she never fails to put a smile on your face. If you’ve not read the series yet, then make sure you go and start it as honestly it’s not something to miss out on.
Lottie Lemon is doing her best, she’s been through a lot in the past few months, but now things are calming down. She’s got an amazing boyfriend, an amazing house, a great business and has all the friends she could ask for…. With Thanksgiving coming up, you’d think that she’d be busy baking pies and keeping up with the endless tasks at the bakery, all is going well up until one of her creations ends up being involved in an investigation, with everything pointing towards her will she be found guilty or will she be able to clear her name?
Sorry, but not sorry; this is the worst book I've read of 2024. I selected the book since it was free to read, and I was in the mood for a short, cozy mystery. When I turned on the narration, I was disappointed to find it was AI narration. Despite the advancements in AI, the narration lacked the human touch, mispronounced words, and failed to convey any emotion. The lack of character distinction was a stark contrast to the engaging performances in proper audiobooks. The writing in this book was so poor that I found myself questioning if it was penned by an AI, given the bizarre analogies it employed. Phrases like 'my face was as hot as a dumpster fire' and 'he straddled his erect weapon' (referring to his firearm) were just a few examples of the jarring, nonsensical prose. Despite the option to stop reading at any point, I found myself unable to look away from the litany of issues that plagued this book. The sheer number of problems was surprising and disappointing, to say the least. The mystery was disappointingly straightforward, featuring the typical trope of an amateur detective falling in love with a professional detective. I would not recommend it to readers and not to audiobook fans.
Lottie is busy running her new bakery, enjoying her new relationship with Detective Noah Fox, and gearing up for the Thanksgiving rush. She doesn't need to see another ghost, which for her is always a bad omen. This time she's seeing a ghost who looks all too much like her friend, Everett Baxter. Terrified that Everett may be in danger, Lottie tries to keep an eye on him as best she can. While attending an awards ceremony that Lottie catered, one of the attendees drops dead from poison. Suspicion initially falls on Lottie, but she and her bakery are quickly exonerated. Afterward, Everett becomes the primary suspect. Lottie knows he didn't kill Collette, and she sets out to prove it, much to Noah's chagrin.
Laugh out loud funny! Lottie gets into the most absurd situations (a fetish club and nude aquarobics, just to name a couple) making it difficult to set this aside. I needed to see what mischief she would get into next! There were plenty of suspects in this one, as Collette had few friends but plenty of enemies. The plot skewed heavily to the investigation side, although we did see Lottie at work in the bakery and relaxing with Noah.
Pumpkin Spice Sacrifice is the 3rd installment in the Murder in the Mix series detailing the adventures of town confectioner Lottie Lemon and her moonlighting investigatory skills. When someone is publicly murdered at a town event and one of Lottie's close friends is implicated she must race against time to clear their name or watch them lose their beloved career. With the help of another spectral visitor that only Lottie can see, she once again follows the clues while putting herself at risk of running into a murderer before bringing them to justice. Strong-willed and sassy Lottie will risk it all for her friends while providing the town with as many seasonal baked goods as she can. I enjoy reading all of Addison Moore's literary works and highly recommend this season tale, which can be read as a standalone, but is best enjoyed by reading the previous two books.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Loved the book. It was interesting, comedic at times (laughed out loud quite a few times), had a spot of romance - all in all, a good read. Of course, I am in love with Judge Baxter. Wish I could meet someone like him in real life, he fulfills my (and I am sure many other women's) dreams. Noah is nice, but add intellect and intelligence to sexy good looks and you've got a winner. The only problem I have at times is with Lottie. Sometimes I think she is a ditz. If a woods is full of wolves, you don't got in, but apparently Lottie does (often). If you know someone is the killer it is inane to follow them into a deserted room and accuse them and then have to try like hell to get out before they kill you. Of course , seeing as we are reading a book, the cavalry arrives to save her. More than likely not the way it works in reality. But, I love the series and will continue to read until there are no more.
