They found each other. Then the killer found them. Detective Jackson "Jax" McKenna walks into a psychologist's office and finds that the doctor bears a striking resemblance to his first love, Lainie, who disappeared ten years ago after their disastrous first date ended in violence. Dr. Elizabeth Parker is really Elaine Wilson, Jax's Lainie. She's been in hiding since the night that changed both their lives. Jax discovers the truth when the killer lets Lainie know he's found her. When Jax and Lainie go on the run to keep Lainie safe, old feelings resurface as the killer threatens their lives. Can Jax save Lainie and help her stay Invisible?
Romance author, dialysis warrior, furkid mom, and Best Fiends addict. Lover of coffee, 80’s music, and all things romance. During the day she carves out writing time in between trips to the back door as doorman to her four-legged furry child. At night after spending quality time with her husband she chips away at her never-ending TBR pile.
Lainie and Jax dated briefly in high school. After a situation at home Laine had to leave and never came back. They reconnect 10 years later and Lainie's pay comes back to haunt her. Jax and Laine are on the run now as they try to outsmart the killer. The story was good but I felt it was a little too rushed. I would have liked the author to slow it down so I could feel more of a connection. Jax and Lainie have been separated for 10 years and I wanted more one on one time of them getting reconnected. I felt they had a lot to discuss and we only scratched the surface when they finally have their sit down. The author goes from past to present which I liked as well. Gives you a good backstory. Overall the book was good and I was able to listen in one sitting. The narrator did a good job capturing the emotions.
Okay, I bought this book directly from the author I am darn glad I did. And to continue the honestly, I breezed this this book once before but this time I read it as if it was the last book I would ever read.
This story brings us into contact with Jackson, aka Jax, McKenna who is the epitome of the word "Jock". He has everything but the other star of the story, Lainie, real name Elaine Wilson, the epitome of word "nerd" except one, she is a beauty. the two meet when Jax gets himself in trouble and Lainie is tasked with saving him, so to speak, so his "jockness" can go on. A spark ignites feelings between them and they get close.
But there is a back story that comes to light the closer Jax and Lainie become and then a different type of "spark" ignites a forest fire that breaks them apart.
To jump way ahead, they meet later in life. One of them is hurt and one is hiding.
I will not add any further spoilers but I will add this: The author has written a genuinely enjoyable story. She has a solid grasp on the emotions of her characters. She is expressive without adding excessive verbiage and she keeps the reader involved.
I stopped, after the first chapter. It is so jumpy and just not thought out well. We have dual povs but instead of moving our timeline forward they jump back and start repeating things we already read. Also- there are several details that make no sense. And it's only chapter one.
Example: Jackson barely says, anything in his session yet a whole hour magically flies by? What happened the rest of the time? And- call me crazy- but this bugged me: Jackson ASKED the secretary for help with the forms. But when she accepts all of the sudden he thinks she is being "over the top" flirtatious?
Sorry, but when I see problems like that in the first chapter then it doesn't bode well for the rest. I'm perfectly willing to possibly "miss out" by not finishing.
This was such a good story. I read through it in just a few hours, unable to put it down. Lainie and Jax were acquaintances in high school, until Lainie's stepfather attacked her and she disappeared for her safety. Jax is a wounded detective that has to visit a psychologist before returning to duty. He happens to walk into Elaine's office, and once he realizes it's really her, he isn't letting her go. He takes it upon himself to protect her at all costs. The story jumps back and forth between the past and the present, and between Jax and Lainie's POV. It isn't ever confusing, though, which was much appreciated. This wasn't a terribly long story, so it moves at a pretty fast pace. The mixing in of the high school story really helped round out the characters. I would have loved to have even more of the story, especially at the end. But it was a great way to pass a few hours. If you like romantic suspense, grab this. I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.
*was gifted a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review*
I liked the story of Laney and Jax. The growing budding relationship of their high school selves. The moment they have to part ways, the hard choices made. Then to have them thrust back together in the oddest of circumstances. It was a great mix of laughs, intensity and love.
For me the story was rushed at times. Then sometimes it felt a little muted. Like something was missing.
As for the audiobook itself, it was good but the narrator went too fast. It's like he was on a time crunch or something. There was only a hesitation between chapters and POV changes, so a couple of times I had to stop and go back to figure out what I missed.
This was a quick and suspenseful romance that will have you at the edge of your seat. I liked the characters Jax and Laine were very likable. A story of young love that was interrupted by tragedy. A second chance romance that is foreshadowed with danger from the past. I did feel that some of the emotional parts of this book were resolved to quick, I would have preferred to see a more natural way for their feelings to be resolved. It felt as if there was a rush to get to the next scene. Overall I loved how protective Jax is over Laine after having found her again. Truly a second chance romance that will melt your heart.
Invisible is a romantic suspense thriller about Detective Jax McKenna, who is reunited with his first love Lainie after ten years apart. However, their reunion is short-lived when some bad guys from the past hunt down the couple.
This is a short read, you could probably finish it in a few days. The book switches back and forth between Jack and Lainie’s POV. It also has flashbacks to the couple’s time in high-school, showing how they met and how their trouble with the bad guys began.
The author does a good job of capturing the romance side of the story. I loved Jax’s character because he was protective of Lainie and his affection for her showed throughout the story as he feared losing her again. As for Lainie’s character I became frustrated with her at times, but then you realize why she’s so hesitant to open herself up to love.
The story does have its suspenseful moments. As Jax and Lainie go on the run, often staying at secluded areas I was wondering if the bad guys were going to catch them. The ending was good with the dreary setting and how eventually everything works out for the couple.
Overall, this was a good suspenseful story with a dash of romance mixed in.
There are times when a book has the perfect title and this is one! Lainie is Jax's tutor in high school and even though complete opposites, they briefly date. When she is attacked by her stepfather, she disappears and goes under a new identity. Now 10 years later, Jax enters her office, and realizes it is her. He is not going to let her go this time. When she is now being sought out, will he be able to protect her? I love romances that have a history. LA Remenicky gives us flashbacks from now back to high school flawlessly, giving us that look at what life was, and how things evolved. The questions of how and why are answered and the initial chemistry between Lainie and Jax leads to their future. Second chances are rare and it gives us that sense of hope and love, The suspense element for me is a bonus, as I love to have that heart stopping thrill. This is my first book by Remenicky and will not be my last!
Narrated by Trevor Thompson, he gives us that melodious baritone voice. He is an excellent choice for this type of story, as he is able to fluctuate between the warm and loving right into the evil and dangerous. He gives an amazing performance, one you do not want to miss.
Book in 5 words: Emotionally Charged, Entertaining, Romantic, Slow-Paced, Simple
Series: No, but the way it was written it seemed that it was set up to lead into a second book about Jordan and Brent.
Summary: This book is about Elaine aka Lainie and Jackson aka Jax, set in the present time with flashbacks into their past beginning with when they met in high school. Their reconnection is slightly overshadowed by having to go into hiding because of a past villain .
Analysis: Great plot, but the looming problem was slow at times and the villain's end is anti-climatic and unreal. I really enjoyed the characters, great lovestory and character development.
Trigger Warnings: Potentially disturbing content, read with care. HEA: Yes Cliffhanger: No Heat Level: Level 3
Lainie and Jackson were high school sweethearts who due to a tragic event got separated for many years, but a chance meeting brings them back together. Things move pretty quick from there. At times the writing felt a bit choppy and disconnected which made it hard to get into the story. Probably due to the way the author kept not only jumping back and forth from past to present, but repeating chapters through both POV's as well. It takes you out of the story to read a whole chapter from one character's POV and then at the start of the next chapter you're jumping back to the beginning of the day or event for the other character and getting it from their POV as well but done in literally the same style with little to no changes to expand on what is going on.
The plot was thin, inconsistent and jumped around waaaaay too much. And the threat here is that Lanie's step-dad is the top of a big drug ring, but he has no money and steals her tip money to buy a $10 case of beer, yet he has all of these people working for him to hunt down Lanie for turning him in..
Invisible was a good read by L.A. Remenicky. Jax is a detective who goes to see a psychologist. He never expected that the doctor would strongly resemble the woman he loved Lainie. Lainie disappeared 10 years ago after her and Jax had a first date that ended in violence. Jax would have never believed that Dr. Elizabeth is really his Lainie. They both go on the run in order to keep Lainie safe. As the killer threatens their lives, they grow closer. I really enjoyed reading Jax and Lainie’s story and can’t wait to read more by L.A. Remenicky.
I really loved this book. I came across it a while back and have kept it in my library. I started reading it and was instantly involved. Jax and Lainie's story of young love gone incredibly wrong is heart breaking. As their history unfolds and they finally get to really know each other, they are on the run again. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone but if you want to read about strong women who never give up, this is for you. It is a fast moving, action packed , drama that just kept me enthralled. This is definitely a re-read.
Jax and Lainie’s story started out as young love and tragedy separated them for 10 years. Circumstances brought them together again but past dangers threatened to keep them apart. This story is also about finding yourself in the midst of life altering changes. Invisible is well written and details how people can be self conscious about scars physically and emotionally. Loved it!
Loved everything about this story so much. It took a little bit of time for me to get used to the writing style. I'm a fan of both POV being used, but not used to them both being given over many of the same parts. Once I got used to it, loved seeing them both. Jax and Elaine both deserved their happily ever after finally, it was a long time coming.
I enjoy reading this book. It reminds me of being young and falling in love for the first time how beautiful everything was and could not wait for the next moment to meet up. The sitting in the back seat of the cinema eating popcorn and kissing. Lovely memories. Beautifully written. Totally enjoyable.
Long story zhort! High school love, abusive step , drug dealing and extensive road trip for protection!
She was beat with bat, hidden for ten years in protective custody and the abusive step was out of jail by a technicality . Read it couldn't put it down!
This was not the type of book I usually read, but, it was in our library (my spouse and life partner’s), the summary sounded interesting. I would recommend, even if you think it is not a book for you.
This story was not only a great love story but also a great police thriller. So many twist and turns and layers of running and hiding. Loved the happy ever ending. Great read l
This book was a very nice romance novel. I really liked the way that Lannie and Jax found each other years later and were brought back together. Sweet love story.
I enjoyed this book, a little heart wrenching and psychotic as implied with the whole killer thing. Takes you in a pretty wild ride and cute and saviour love story.
