Vampire Gracie Morrow leads a quiet lie-- some might even say an ordinary one. She's got a comfortable home, a loving husband, a good job, and a steady supply of beef blood from the local butcher. But Gracie's world is turned upside down when a killer begins targeting mixed non-human couples with violent attacks. Though she's never quite fit in with her husband Mitch's werewolf pack, she'll fight to the death to protect what is hers. And when push comes to shove, this mild-mannered Kansas girl fights dirty.
This well-written story is of Gracie Morrow, a vampire legal assistant in rural Kansas targeted by what seems to be hate attacks against mixed couples (vampire and werewolf specifically). Even before the attacks begin, Gracie had suffered through the pain of not being accepted by her husband Mitch’s pack in the twenty-four years since they married.
Though she’s technically his mate, and Mitch assures her she’s a member, many of the other werewolves are wary and dubious of her. Through shows of courage and kindness during the unfortunate ordeal, she overcomes prejudice to earn their respect.
Guilty pleasure. This is not my usual reading but I am really enjoying the tough, midwestern vampire, who is a great cook and organized housewife, while she fights battles for the racism which occurs, related to the mixed marriage of herself and a werewolf. I actually picture the author as the protagonist every single time. I'll be back for more!
