Stricken with the affects of a virus that was unleashed on their people they escaped to our world and have lived among us, some even taking the name of our gods. Kemet, an ancient group of warrior who've lived on our planet for ions. Ahmose has been asleep for a century since his beloved wife died in his arms. As a Kehmet warrior, his only choice was to hold a blade within his heart and be laid to rest in the catacombs beneath his home. When he awakens in a metal box disoriented and lost, he escapes into the dark midnight sea. Lacking Mana, he calls out only to find himself staring into the dark-brown eyes of a young woman. Rachael had one desire when she planned a trip after her last semester of graduate school, and that was to go Sardinia, Italy and enjoy a romantic getaway with her boyfriend. When he sends her a text stating that they should take a break, she spends her first night drinking at a bar while she cries her disappointment into glasses of expensive wine. Rachael doesn't know the first thing about the stranger that she finds in her bed, only that he's an unneeded distraction on her "man-hate" vacation, and that there are some dangerous people after him. Will they survive the evil force that's chasing them? Or will they be captured before they can explore the intense passion between them?
This is a really good concept for a paranormal romance series. I love seeing a woman of color, specifically a black heroine in a paranormal romance or indeed any romance that isn’t “urban.” It is refreshing and I’d love to see this more of this kind of diversity in the romance writing space, not just someone occasionally throwing in a vaguely ethnic heroine who could be anyone. The plot is good and the world that the author has created is compelling- I want to read the next book hopefully about Diablo. Where this book falls down quite a bit is in the execution. There are so many punctuation errors, grammatical errors, spelling errors, typos, homophones that it becomes really distracting and makes the book feel less than professional. A+ to the author for creativity and story but that was let down by the editing issues.
This book had an interesting premise and plot. Kind of cool twist on immortals that would have been enjoyable but the book was overrun with grammatical errors. It made parts almost unreadable. Missing words, misused words, punctuation errors- you name it and the errors were on nearly every page. Would probably move on in what appears to be a series if the book quality had been better. But nope... Serious editing needed here.
LB wrote a story that kept me turning the page. The plot was well developed with lots of action. I have not read many paranormal stories but when I do, I want something that will spark my imagination and Ahmose did that.
With that said, the reading experience of this book could have been so much better if it were better edited for grammatical errors. A couple of errors can be over looked but these were repetitive and very irritating to an otherwise interesting story. If authors would just take the time to listen to the stories they've written using a text to speech program, they could catch a lot of grammatical mistakes. It would be obvious when the story is heard. This is just a suggestion as I often listen to my e-books using text to speech as i go about my day.
Great start. I initially didn't want to read this book and then I said to myself, "why not". So I read it. Loved it. I'm about to read the 2nd book. I hope it is as good or better than the first. The ending could have been better. I want to hear (read) more about Rachel and Ahmose. Their ending was so abrupt. I hope the author revisits this couple and flesh out their story. There were so many moving parts that need to be addressed. Then there were the grammatical errors. More editing was needed. Aside from that this was still a really good read and held my attention from beginning to end. I actually give this book 4.5 stars and not 5. More work is needed but overall a good read. Recommended and the reader won't be disappointed.
This is the beginning of a series I'm sure many will love. Ahmose is what I love about LB Keen, strong women, charismatic men, and an adventure. Rachael an Ahmose's chemistry was so hot. I also loved learning more about the man Ahmose is. He was by far my favorite and most interesting character. I'm as interested in the story of the Kehmets as I am in Keen's Capricorn series (which is my personal favorite from the author). This is a must read for any reader who enjoys good lore, hot men who make you melt, and a good girls who finish 1st.
I tried to rate this as 3 stars but the rating function kept giving it 4 stars. This book needs better editing. Quite a few of the sentences were so poorly structured that I literally had to try to understand what the author meant. I also felt that the book ended too abruptly. While this is not the worst book that I've ever read it wasn't the best. I'll skip the next installment.
Not the best.
I'll take a pass on the next installment.
I just wanted to review. I didn't know that I would have to write my own novel.
This is my first book by this author. I don’t usually read paranormal books but once in awhile and this was really a good story. The story development was good, giving you ongoing insight of the characters and their adventure. I think you need to get another editor because there were numerous typos, grammatical errors and wrong word usage, e.g. rode instead of road; you’re instead of your.
If you are one that can ignore despicable grammar and vocabulary but enjoy the plot, you will enjoy this book. Great concept that was spoilt by not taking the time to edit. Not sure if that equates to a lack of respect to people spending their money to purchase these books. But Damn the storyline is unique enough to keep me coming back swearing all the while at a writer who couldn't be bothered to get an editor.
Rachel traveled over seas trying to get over a very recent break up. Little did she know she is a key player in an ancient battle! I love how the author turned a heart broken woman to a woman who has #BlackGirlMagic that is almost equal to an alien god!! Can’t wait for book 2!
Once I picked the book up I could not put it down I love the characters I can't wait for the upcoming series surely there must be more to follow as a writer you have my heart kudos to your crew certainly you all mesh very well together to bring something truly wonderful, keep writing.
This is my first read by this aurthor, and I have to say I was very impressed. I’m used to reading AA Paranormal, so to read an BWWM paranormal was dope!! I enjoyed the story line and the many different layers to each character. Ahmose is book bae lol but I’m interested Diablo and what he will bring in the next installment.
This is an interesting start to what I'll assume to be a series. The ancients, the Kehmet, have been asleep for hundreds of years; refugees from their world that was destroyed. The feed on manna which I guess is human energy. They take lovers that they will protect and "feed" from exclusively.
I enjoyed the story line, but the numerous errors with grammatical, tense and incorrect words drove me to distraction. Descriptions need lots of work and different senses other than sight need to be addressed. Oh and having a character say their five senses were engaged doesn't cut it for a description to the reader.
I enjoyed the story very much. New characters, new world and the storyline were all fabulous. There were grammatical errors that interrupted the flow so it wasn't as smooth a read as I would have liked but it flowed better towards the end. I can't wait for the next book in what is going to be an awesome series!
Laugh out loud. I enjoyed reading this book and hope there will be others in the series... Like Diablo yeah I want to read about him because he either has an Amourite coming or he has to share one... with Ahmose!! That would be hilarious. Grammatical errors but nothing a reader can't get through.
I've waited a pretty long time for Ahmose. Now I have more to look forward to. This book does not disappoint. It has the right amount of sassy and supernatural to keep one happy.
Wow this was different but love it I am glad he met Rachael and knew she was his one. I hope they find those excuse of humans and stick it to them. This story has funny crime and hot sex and a Mother who was tough. Thank you. Can't wait for the next one
This was such a good story! Very different from what I normally read but it was worth it. The only thing that I didn’t like was it was too short. I wanted more of Ahmose and Ray!
Simply love everything she puts out I want to know what happens next I’m sad that this book has ended I just love reading everything she does this was truly amazing never even read something this different and amazing
This is the first time I've read a book like this. Loved it so much.Finished it in a few hours. Looked for a part about Diablo.in Atlanta and what happened to the rest that was awakened. No such luck. Do a second part to this book pls. A
Man oh man, when I say that I'm hooked on this paranormal series! I'm freaking all in! It's on to the next episode for me. I mean this book is like a darn television series! Enjoy your time spent reading, I'm headed to book two in the series.
Another Awesome book by L.B Keen. Ahmose and Rachel love story had me going AWW. She is his e verthing and vice a versa. Truly heartwarming and Spectacular book.
Gotta love these supernatural characters. Rachel and Ahmose are funny and sexy. I wish that there was more back story to the Kehmets and the people hunting them.
