"I'm sort of doing what I want to do. I mean, not sort of what I want to do, I am doing what I want to do. Or what I believe I was put here to do."A spokesperson for a generation, Bob Dylan gave a voice to the young, and his words were, and still are, truly revolutionary. Bob Inspirations conveys the spirit of the man and the inspiration he has brought to millions through his poignant music. This intriguing book is composed entirely of Dylan's own words. Photos of Dylan and captivating images illustrate his words
* "When I get involved in something, I get totally involved. I don't just play around on the fringe."
* "I went over my whole life. I went over my whole childhood. I didn't talk to anyone for a week after Elvis died. If it wasn't for Elvis and Hank Williams, I couldn't be doing what I do today."
* "I don't call myself a poet because I don't like the word. I am a trapeze artist." The book is filled with over 50 striking photographs in a thoroughly modern design for a unique look. Pull it out when you need some inspiration from the master.
I appreciate this coffee table book mostly for the black and white photos. I also appreciate being able to hear thoughts from Bob Dylan -- it helps to understand him a bit more to read his words and know the attitude he had about songwriting, life, money, politics, etc. I can't say I agree with much of what's in this book, but I appreciated it all the same.
Classic Dylan quotes married with iconic Dylan photos. What's not to like? One wonders, of course, if Dylan pocketed any cash from this project, and one sincerely hopes so. It's a small square book, just right to slip into the backpack of a kid going away to school, perfect for a housewarming present, and nice for any coffee shop anywhere.
Dylanheads shouldn't miss this, but I don't think it's a good vehicle to convert the newbies with.
This would make an awesome coffee table book--small, with a moving photo and quote on each spread. Some will inspire, some will provoke thought, and others may outrage you. A quick, snapshot view into the life and thoughts of Bob Dylan.
Just a bunch of classic Dylan quotes. Nothing more, nothing less a few pictures of random stuff to boot. "If I wasn't Bob Dylan, I'd probably think that Bob Dylan has a lot of answers myself."
