Colonel Julius Montclair saved Washington from annihilation. He foiled the plot of a secretive group called the Cabal, but he didn’t finish them. He’s about to find out what they’ve been doing. Colonel Julius Montclair, hero of the Battle of the Potomac and the Savior of Washington. The youngest airship commander in the Union fleet, a man burdened by his own fame. Only he has the experience and skill to go behind enemy lines on one more deadly mission. Only this time, he’ll be forced to confront the ghosts of his past. Ghosts that still have the power to kill. Scarlet, the fiery-haired assassin, must confront the rot within the ranks of the Department of Strategic Intelligence. She and her minder have a plan to go into the belly of the beast and deliver justice to a traitor, one of their own, but they’re not the only ones steeped in decades of intrigue. Can they defeat a man who knows every move they will make? Abe, fresh out of Indoctrination and earning the moniker The Bookkeeper, is saddled with a minder who is a drunk at best, a traitor at worst. He’ll have to figure out a way to work with the man and keep them both alive long enough to pull off a dangerous mission. Vince Flynn’s political thrillers meet the creative technology of Jules Verne.

A book for those who read steampunk, alternative history and military history and equally, for those who do not. The book continues the story of the United States after the Civil War and the stalemate achieved in the first book in the series, Stalemate. It features real historical figures such as President Grant, Mrs. Grant (wait until you see what she is up to), Robert E. Lee and others expertly inserted into an alternative steampunk world with a group of new characters both military and civilian. The most surprising thing for me was the amount of time in the novel given to describing the political maneuverings as the two sides fight to establish control over territory and control the destiny of this version of the United States. If you are a political junkie, you must read this book! Be prepared to set aside a chunk of reading time as you will quickly be drawn in and will find yourself in a dilemma as you meet these characters. You will want to know immediately how the book ends and how the characters end up so you will be tempted to flip to the last couple of chapters to find out. On the other hand, you will be having such as wonderful time being in suspense and watching everything develop you will want to postpone the ending as long as possible. Do you sip or do you gulp? I highly recommend the sipping method as you won't want to miss savoring any of the plot twists. This is the second book in at least a trilogy, but there is ample backstory provided to make it enjoyable without having read the first book, but not too much to ruin your enjoyment of the first book which you will want to start as soon as you finish this one. A prequel story is available free on the author's website. There are smart, strong, believable female characters who are defnitely not around just for decoration. I read this book in ARC form and them proceeded to do something I have not done before - I went to Amazon and ordered both this book and the first book, Stalemate in paperback as I know I will want to read them both again. Hoping the publisher considers a graphic novel adaptation drawn as the covers are by the author and his collaborator Bob Kehl.

Thomas Webb has done it again. This book had me on a roller coaster ride and I didn't want it to end. I read the book in about three days give or take a day or two. Had lots of stress but when I did finally get to the meat (books are food for me) of this book I wasn't disappointed. The backstabbing and the intrigued and keeping everyone on their toes had me in tears. I couldn't get enough. By now I should probably have characters that are my favorite but I don't. I loved them all. And I've never loved all of a book's characters before. I need more I just can't wait.

I edited and published this book. It's the second title in the Clockwerk Thriller series, and holds up well. If you enjoyed Book One, Stalemate, then you'll love Precipice. The books are military steampunk set in an alternate American Civil War. They're filled with great, action movie tropes and are pure fun. If you're looking for a great, escapist read, you should try Clockwerk Thriller!

Montclair is on the move again, this time towards home: New Orleans

He and Greg are on the outs. Scarlet and Copperhead went after McCormick the traitor, Copperhead got caught and Scarlet got away. Mrs. Grant has asked them to go after "the Cabal", all of them in one form or another. It's exciting, dangerous and scary for all.

Read and enjoy!!
