OK the 4 stars are for Jodi Thomas' story alone.... see last story at bottom

Jennifer Blake — The Warlock's Daughter ** 2 stars
Not a fan of the author's writing style. Too much detailed descriptions of minutia. Especially when there was any action. I found I would get lost as to what was happening. Carita is a Warlock's daughter raised by her bitter aunt after the accidental death of her mother by her father. Like Cinderella, except her prince charming meets her in a cemetery. I got tired of the pushing away by Renfrew who intends to court her but changes his mind once she decides to be his.

This story was somewhat similar to the movie; 'the lake house' except the letters are exchanged through a pony express satchel instead of a mailbox (except this story was written a decade before the movie).
Jamie lives with her shrewish older sister in 1902 Chicago, and Adam lives at a lonely express station in 1861 Shadows Bend (Texas?). A tall old man comes to her antique shop and gives her a pony express satchel that she could swear was empty until it wasn't. The correspondence turns to dreams and love. It's not quite that simple but it is a short story. The characters were nicely drawn and the ending was perfect. I love this author's writing. She really thinks about the situations she puts her characters in and how they would be affected. You feel the story with all of your senses.
A real sweet read and it's too bad that it is only available in this paperback. (I hate reading paperbacks now).
