Mistakenly typecast as a slow learner and problem child, Harris clings to the relief provided by the secure routines and ceremonies of childhood, only to find that the past has also become threatening through a series of inexplicably disturbing memories that perplex him.
When I was maybe between the ages of 10 and 13 I read this book and holy moly did it change my life. The perspective of the story being told from someone with a mental 'disability', the sexual themes, the family dynamics, the tragedy, the horror, the uneasiness. It opened up a world of perspective that I hadn't encountered. A thrilling read, a touching read, unforgettable and punchy. I should re-read it to see if it's any good but the impact it left on me was profound.
