A jilted bride A grieving man Can these two learn to love again?
Summer Carmichael escapes to Hawaii to heal her broken heart. Little does she know her belief in happy endings will be tested once more on her way to finding the man of her dreams.
Mona Ingram is the author of over 60 romance novels, including twelve novellas. Many of her stories take place in British Columbia, where she has lived since the age of twelve. In recent years she has lived in the Okanagan Valley and on Vancouver Island. In addition to reading and writing, traveling and bird watching are among Mona's favourite pastimes.
Summer Carmichael is extremely busy planning her wedding, and she is doing it all on her own because her fiance is too busy to be bothered with such things. Overly critical, a workaholic, and yet displaying some romantic qualities and just enough charm to make her think everything will be fine. She even gives up her dream honeymoon so that she can go where he wants to go - simply because there is a work related event at the end that he wants her to attend.
On the day of her wedding, Summer finds her fiance engaging in a romp with his girlfriend - in a downstairs room in the Church in which they are to be married. Needless to say, Summer is more than done.
Telling her best friend to go upstairs and announce that the wedding is off and why, and telling all the guests to please go ahead and have the reception, enjoy the food and win, and party without her, Summer decides she needs to get away - by herself.
She decides at the last minute to have her honeymoon by herself, where she dreamed of going to begin with - Hawaii.
I will stop there so as not to reveal too much. The book is well written, the characters are believable, and you will find yourself rooting for Summer, a person who deserves someone who will love her for herself, appreciate her, and re-open her closed heart.
On the day of her wedding, Summer finds her groom to be having intercourse with his old girlfriend. Fleeing to Hawaii, Summer runs into Nick her wedding photographer. Since his wife’s death three years ago, Summer is the first woman in whom Nick has shown interest. This sweet second chance story is set against a Christmas background. Watching two broken people mend their hearts propelled the story forward and felt right. It is a short read that is part of Mona Ingrham’s delightful Dear Santa series.
I like Nick and Summer's story, however I felt something lacking that I didn't really connect with the characters. Summer is a jilted bride. Nick is the photographer for Summer's wedding. He is still trying to get over the death of his wife. Summer takes off to her dream destination, which also happens to be where Nick was taking his holiday. Before the book even begins you realize what is going to happen. I still liked it enough for four stars.
This is the first of several in the Rear Santa series. The bride thought she had found the one. But before the wedding she caught the groom with another woman. She left and flew out to Hawaii. While there she sees the photographer from her failed wedding. He lost his wife a few years ago to cancer. Will two broken souls find out that they can love again?
