Akacia and Everleigh have been apart for almost an earthmonth. Both still reeling from recent events, they try to get their lives back on track. They soon find out an evil from their past has resurfaced and their lives and home planet Valinor are in danger. Side-by-side once again, they find themselves fighting for love, peace, and their homes.
**This is an LGBT story with a female/female relationship.**
Akacia has been on her home planet of Valinor trying to get over the fact that Everleigh left her. Everleigh and her crew are still searching the galaxy for their people that Caspar took a long time ago. Everleigh is having a hard time of her own with leaving Akacia behind. Everleigh cares just as much for Akacia as she does for her. They are soulmates.
Everleigh thinks she is doing the best thing for Akacia. Everleigh just wants to keep her safe and alive. She also knows that Akacia is the Empress of their home planet and has to look after her people.
When an old enemy from their past to comes to haunt them Everleigh and Akacia join forces to hunt him down and put an end to him for good. Everyone wants a piece of this evil from their past. If they can’t find him and put a stop to his evil ways it could spell disaster for everyone on Valinor.
Painted Skies is action packed from beginning to end. The world building is astronomical. Both of our heroines are very tough ladies who will stand up for what they believe in and will fight to the end. These two ladies don’t need anyone to fight their battles or take up for them. They can stand their own in hand to hand combat with a knife, gun or with no weapons.
I would recommend Painted Skies to all fans of science fiction.
This is an enjoyable space opera romance. I like the world building and character development and plot lines. However a couple items break immersions in the storyline-
1. The populations of the planets are unrealistically small. From the descriptions we are talking only a few thousand people at best. This is less than the size of a small city on earth.
2. Casper’s ability to take over an entire planet with one ship doesn’t really make sense.
If the populations were increased I know a few other items would need to be tweaked, but how can the populations of entire planets be that small.
When 20 people is most of your military it doesn’t make sense. Especially with spaceships and nanotechnology technology.
Also the authority laws are a little odd.
Despite the above issues I really did enjoy the story and have purchased the next book.
Painted Skies starts off right where Without Hesitation ended, and I wonder if that wasn't a bad idea, as we spend the first couple of chapters reading about two depressed, lonely girls wallowing in their feelings. It had me feeling down instead of spurring me to read on.
When the plot picks up, it is with a major plot twist that seemed to contradict the previous book . The characters just shrug this off, but I couldn't, not without a good explanation. All in all Painted Skies was not a bad read, but it had me feeling down right from the start. The rest of the book seemed to drag, with events happening too far away for the characters to do anything about them.
I still love the setting and the characters and may still pick up book 3 in the series when it comes out because (warning!) this book ends in a major cliffhanger.
More exciting adventures of Akacia and Everleigh as they discover more about themselves as they try to defeat an evil maniac and reunite with loved ones. From having to surrender their love to finding love the young women face their problems and help each other deal with inner turmoil.
