I met him on the shittiest day of my life. And being arrested for prostitution wasn’t the worst part. Legend had it my new stepbrother was called Dynomite because, well, he spewed like a raging volcano. That only made me hate him more, thinking about his damned volcano. I loathed him and his arrogant vanity, his smug self-assurance. Dyno Drummond had no reason for vanity as far as I could tell. He was just an outlaw, a horse that couldn’t be tamed, a down and dirty vaquero who dreamed of being a rodeo star. He busted his way into my life, my house, fucking everything that walked. Not me. I was Miss Squarepants, Head Bitch, holier-than-thou cheerleader who couldn’t be touched. Dyno called me a Force-Me Queen. If only I knew what that meant. My football playing boyfriend was a brainless goon. My BFF coveted and loathed Dyno just as I did. Dyno’s only friend was the alcoholic Native American, Sequoia, the kid on the fast track to nowhere. Seven years ago, the shit hit the fan. Dyno left, did a few tours as a SEAL, and came back different—decorated, mature. He thinks he’s tough enough to rejoin the circuit and become a bareback bronc champ again. He thinks he can break me, too. Well, he’s got another thing coming. I don’t break easily. Bad cowboy. Go to my room.

I'm very sorry, but, I just could not bring myself to finish this. It wasn't bad or anything, I just could not connect with the writing and found the characters way too juvenile for my tastes. It was like, I felt as if the two main leads were trying to hard to the point where they felt exaggerated or over the top.
Eh, maybe next time, Ms. Wolfe. And thank you for offering me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I am huge Layla Wolfe fan and I have read most if not all of her books. This is not an MC book but, I know how Ms. Wolfe's write and I knew she would make it Dynomite an emotional roller coaster ride and boy oh boy was I right. Now after reading this story, I have visions of Cowboy, Stetsons and cowboy boots, go figure this City girl suddenly wants to head to Texas. Let me tell you why I feel in love with David aka Dynomite and April. You know how they say there is a fine line between hate and love, that is how I would best describe the main characters in this book. This story is real and at times angered me beyond my book imagination. Yes this is romance novel but it also touches on real life topics, such as alcoholism, racism and sexual and mental abuse.
David is no stranger to trouble and bad decision, but he father has had enough and sends him to live with his step father and mother. He is not happy about it but sees this as his chance to join the CCRA circuit, things should be smooth right, wrong because April just happens to be his new step sister.
April is a character that I could not hate even though her actions were impulsive, immature and stuck up. When we get to learn who and why April is the way she is, your heart will break and you will angry that this happened to her. April was constantly told that she is not good enough to go to college, that she should marry into a good family, and that is how she saw her self. With David and April constantly at each others throat, things because tense but that son changes with one really hot an dirty kiss.
The more time Dynomite, April and his best friend Sequoia spent together their feelings grow, but an ugly truth is revealed and once again Dynomite is blamed. The reaction to the event, would change the dynamics between the couple before they could really get started. With enemies determined to keep them apart for selfish reasons, ignorant, mean and misunderstandings standing in their way, do they stand a chance. Can their relationship pull through?
Ok...after reading Layla Wolfe's naughty and raunchy biker series (both the gay and straight ones!) I wasn't sure what to expect with a "cowboy stepbrother" romance. What I got was brutally funny in parts, nasty and depressing in others and basically a really very different type of read with romance as a supporting character to a wild coming-of-age story between two horny teenagers. Dyno was such a great character...a cocky, hottie of a rodeo cowboy who at 17, was knocking everyone's socks (or should I say boots) off and was working his craft on the ranch owned by the man who married his mom. April was said rancher's spoiled and entitled daughter, who was a HS cheerleader by day and a heartbreaker of a hussy at night (as much as she could be being a virgin and all). When her widowed dad marries Dyno's mom and they try to make one big dysfunctional happy family, things get crazy and the events that follow go from purely insane to tragic pretty fast. Add in Sequoia, an Indian and friend to both Dyno and April and a town full of racist cowboys who think they are better than everyone else...and you get a whole lot bigger mess than two stepsiblings falling for each other. "Uncle Marcus" is that sort of sub-human being you just want to gut-punch in the privates and his behavior towards April and her protectors Dyno and Sequoia was nothing short of heinous and disgusting. There were so many moments and dialogue that was hilarious (very witty and clever) but there was also some deeply disturbing family drama and incidents that caused a lot of devastation for all parties involved and made their road to happiness a lot sweeter. I really enjoyed this new "step" book quite a bit (I learned a ton about the workings of rodeos) and would recommend it if you want a different kind of romance that spans from teenage years to adulthood and has some hot, sexy cowboy action to boot. I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.
***** 5 ***** "ride 'em cowboy and hold on as long as you can" stars
David " Dynomite" Drummond is trying to make it in the CCPRA. This is his dream for the future. Just a few weeks left of school and he would do what it takes to make this happen. His life had been turned upside down lately. After a brush with the legal system his dad sent him to live with his mom and new step-dad and step-sister. His step-dad could help his dream come true. He knew he was good at riding horses and he worked hard but maybe a little help could help. April Pleasures was the youngest daughter of a powerful rancher. Her dad liked to think he had her life mapped out. Here of late she had become really rebellious. Her mom had died six months ago and she just couldn't adapt to the never ending changes going on in her life. On the outside by the looks of her you would think she had it all, but looks can be deceiving. When Dyno first met April they were both having a bad night and they mixed together like fire and ice. With the roles changing from minute to minute. They were evenly matched in the verbal sparring department. They didn't know after that night their lives were going to be intertwined. Dynomite is exactly that a book with an explosive storyline. Layla Wolfe brings the characters in this story to life with her words. The responses the characters have to the situations is believable. The many twist in the story kept me interested and not a boring minute. I couldn't quit reading. Layla Wolfe did a great job bringing this storyline to life with her words. Loved every minute and great read.

Having been a fan of Layla's M/M and MC books, I was curious when I found out she was writing a stepbrother cowboy story. She did not disappoint! I have read stepbrother books before, but not one like Dynomite. In true Layla Wolfe fashion, this book had drama, comedy, angst, hot men who love strong women, and a bull statue. (Yes - Bull. Statue.)
The cover is gorgeous! Love the tagline too! I think the author did the cowboy/rodeo aspect of this book proud. The scenes were descriptive and the lingo was explained. I liked that because I know nothing about rodeos! Dyno Drummond - Wow! Loved him! He was naughty and dirty and sexy and cocky but had a caring heart for those he liked. There were layers to him and I don't believe we saw them all. I was rooting for Sequoia. I wanted that man-child to get himself together! I really liked April. She got dealt some crappy cards in life but came out strong and in charge on the other end.
I look forward to the next Layla Wolfe book. I know it will be a good one!
I love a good stepbrother book and this one is so different from any that I have read before. We have April Pleasures, the daughter of a rich, powerful rancher. He basically had all of April's life planned out for her until she began to rebel. Her mother had died 6 months earlier and her dad was remarrying another woman who had a son of her own. David "Dynomite" Drummond is the son of April's dad's new wife. He is a cocky, filthy cowboy. When they first met, they were both in a jail cell. The book just took off from there. I loved the banter between April and Dyno and the sexual chemistry was perfect. I really enjoyed that the book was split into 2, when they were teenagers and after Dyno came back from the Seals. I finished this book in one sitting from not being able to put it down. This is my 1st book from Layla Wolfe and I couldn't have picked a better one. I love the dirty, raunchy writing style. Definitely can't wait to jump into another book by here.
I received this awesome step sibling romance ARC in exchange for a honest review..
This will lasso you in and will not let you go. I loved all of Layla's MC stories but this one will blow your mind. I haven't read only a hand full of cowboy romance but this one opened my minds to the cowboys. I should say I will not spoil any part of this book because any one thing will give to a taste of this hot, bad boy romance. Dyno is street smarts, alpha, bad boy who keeps his heart behind a wall. April is a complete opposite.
If you love bad boy, alpha males ego, family drama, forbidden love, broken hearts and second chances you will love this story.
This story was fast paced the main characters meet as teenagers and their lives take very different turns after one mind blowing explosion. I was at times laughing and cursing some of the characters in this book. My heart went out to the main characters April and David "Dyno" for the things they'd gone through. I did almost cry in one part, though and will admit to it. I was glad to see that a few characters got some just desserts as well. Layla, great story telling. I look forward to reading more of your work.
what can i say about this book? I usually do not read stepbrother books, but this book was so well written it had me turning pages and wanting more! I loved the love hate relationship that they had throughout the entire book. I think it made the book that much better! Layla Wolfe has a way to spin a story and get you caught up in her web. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us readers next~!
I have yet to go wrong reading Layla Wolfe's books and this one was no exception. I loved the chance to read it early with an arc. I have a weakness for stepmother books because you cannot expect older teenagers to feel all sweet and brotherly/sister like. The twists and turns this story takes keeps you on the edge of your seat and you really are pulling for their love to get a chance to flourish. Of course,I always love an ending like this one. I really liked it, thanks Layla!
I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. This book was a great read. Funny how love and hate can be so close that sometimes you think one thing, but really feel the other. The interactions between April and Dyno are so ridiculously funny and you can just feel the sexual tension.
Loved Dyno and April together, they were explosive. They gave as good as they got. After the night together, they didn't realize how much their lives were going to intertwined. This was funny, sad , disturbing, sweet and loving all rolled up in one hot cocky cowboy Loved this
I felt bad for my sexy bad boy dyno . I just wanted to give him a hug and tell him your worth it , and you matter then something happens and then you leave , come back even a stronger sexy man ,then you forgive , find justice and get your woman . You go dynomite ❤️
Honestly all said and done this story rounds out to be a solid 3 for me, because....meh.
Warning there are some scenes where the uncle molests (unwanted inappropriate touching and language) the main character.
Most of the story takes places when the main characters are in high school. It is very immature, yet some details above their age level. There are many scenes and scenarios that just annoyed me and I glossed over.
There are several editing issues with inconsistencies. For example in the beginning the uncle is said to be her late mother's brother, yet at the end it is said that he is her dad's brother.
After the majority of the story being slow and drawn out, the ending chapters were glossed over.
I like a good stepbrother story, and every now and then I like a good cowboy story, but this just didn't live up to my expectations.
Has it all in both parts, can be a hard read for some people. Novel - Part 1 as well as Part 2 in this book. Heart breaking in some areas. Novel full of emotions, that cover many subjects and lessons that each and everyone of us need to learn. "Sequoia" with low self esteem and no hope for a better life for himself i found hard to read about.. so many people need help, but instead humanity turns a blind eye to suffering of others or mock them. What a very sad world we live in, bullies and racists need to grow up and see the harm that they do.
In this story the rancher , cowboy ,Bull Rider, and commanding seductive male Dyno. April is a independent mind, beautiful, horse 🐎 riding cowgirl. Their step siblings by April dad ,and Dyno mother marrying no blood related. They have sexually feelings, lust, and uncontrollable feeling.Fantastic book.
One of the wildest books I’ve ever read. I never knew what was going to come out of any of their mouths or what they were going to do next. The dialogue was hilarious because the way they described everything was over-the-top in the funniest way, truly just wild and unique. Loved this from start to finish! 4/5 🌶 5/5 ⭐️
There was so much to really like about this book, and there were somethings, like the creepy uncle, that were really not to like. The story just needs a little tidy up I think, but in general a good quick read. I liked it enough that I'd read this author again.
I love cowboy stories and not usually young adult but this was a good one. When April meets Dyno she is not happy and it gets worse when she finds out he is her stepbrother.
Dynomite: A Stepbrother Cowboy Romance is a departure from the other writings of Layla Wolfe. I am a huge fan of Ms Wolfe's MC and M/M books, and I was expecting another amazing story. While I enjoyed book, it was vastly different from what I was expecting.
I found it difficult to relate to April and Dyno, and their story was very heavy on their juvenile antics. I felt that some of the early parts of the story could have been cut without any negative impact. I would have liked to see the layout reversed, heavier on the later part of their lives and less on the high school aspect.
Both April and Dyno were troubled souls, each dealing with their own issues, which somehow drew them together. April seemed like she fit well with her friends, but was hiding some major things from them. Dyno didn't fit in at all, and all anyone really knew about him was speculation. They loved to hate each other, or did they? It's a fine line between love and hate and this story is a shining example of that.
I enjoyed part 2, but wished it was heavier on the details. I would have liked to focus a little more on the issues that Dyno came home with and how he dealt with them. It felt that while the issues were mentioned, there was never any closure to the topic. They didn't just go away, but there was no details and to how April and Dyno coped with them.
I enjoyed this book, the premise was enticing as I read the description. The book definitely started off with a bang and ended the same way. This was not my favorite from Ms Wolfe, but it's definitely still worth the read.
I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK FOR AN HONEST REVIEW AND THIS IS MY HONEST REVIEW ... OVER 18 READERS A GREAT READ...SLOW START BUT SOON YOU CAN'T GET ENOUGH, October 1, 2015 In this story we have rich and powerful families and the poor who haven't had all the good breaks in life, of course some in the middle. There is drinking, fighting a rodeo town, and the main kids are just coming of age (17-19). There is April Pleasurea 17 year old who's mother died 6 months ago, rich, spoiled( having a ruff time over the death of her mother), her best friend Olivia (does like the boys and what she can do with them), Olivia's boyfriend Kemp, April's boyfriend Lawson Willard, then you have Sequoia Crooks (Indian who lives in a shack on the Pleasure's ranch with his disabled father). Then to stir things up Cliff Pleasure marries Sadie Drummond and then her 17 year old son is sent to her(she put him in a motel) David prefers to be called Dyno, and finally Sadie talks Cliff into letting him move into the house with them, afterward at dinner April is told.Add her slimy uncle Marcus to the mix, and you can see where lots of different problems could arise. As problems come up April and Dyno beginning to find out about each other and what their life was really like. But there hate/like leads to lots of funny tricks. Their stories will seprate them before you find out if it works out for a HEA. Will it work out so they can forgive and love each other?
I was given this book for an honest review….. This isn’t the first book that I have read written by Layla I men I loved her both of her biker series so I didn’t know what to expect with the "cowboy stepbrother" romance, but I have to say she did not disappoint me.
This story is fast paced the main characters meet as teenagers and their lives take very different turns after one mind blowing explosion. I was at times laughing and cursing some of the characters in this book. I even wanted to drop kick a few characters. My heart went out to the main characters April and David "Dyno" for the things they'd gone through.
We have April Pleasures, the daughter of a rich, powerful rancher. He basically had all of April's life planned out for her until she began to rebel after he mother passed 6months earlier. To top it all off her dad married another woman to quickly for April and she had a son of her own.
David "Dynomite" Drummond is the son of April's dad's new wife. He is a cocky, filthy cowboy and I just loved him….. He is trying to make it in the CCPRA. This is his dream for the future. But things happen
The many twist in the story kept me interested and there was not a boring minute in this book and the way the character where well developed and interact was amazing. I couldn't stop reading it. I highly recommend this book……
This is a hot, raunchy, cowboy romance. If you don't like loads of dirty talk, and hardcore sexy scenes than stop here this books is not for you. If the answer is yes than by all means please continue. April is a cattle ranchers daughter she's going through a rough spot after her moms death and her dad remarrying very quickly thereafter. Along comes Dynomite a sexy cowboy that's in her math class in school. Little does she realize Dyno is her new step brother of course that doesn't stop the passionate explosion that seems to occur every time they get near each other. However it's not always pleasant as they say there is a thin line between love & hate. Follow April and Dyno over the course of almost 10 years as they find out sometimes you have to grow up a bit to really appreciate things. There is hot sex, a rough and tumble Cowboy and a feisty little lady. A good read I thoroughly enjoyed the language is not always my thing but worked for the characters and book. I found the degrading and insults of the Native American Sequoia ( both Dyno and Aprils good friend) to be difficult at times to read but not unrealistic just not something I personally liked. A few surprises but thankfully a great HEA for the explosive couple.
**** reviewer for paranormal romance and authors that rock
I am a fan of Layla Wolfe....loved her MC Club books (esp. the Bent Zealot) and I came into this hoping for something along those lines, but that is not what I found here.
For over half the book we have a horny teenage boy that shoots off like a volcano (or so we are told on multiple occasions) and a horny virgin girl who really loves her shower head and her BOB, and happens to be Dynomite's step sister. We have a child molesting uncle, a father that looks the other way basically and a boyfriend that has smacked April around if I read it right and is a total douche.
Dyno is a teenage cowboy, from Texas originally but now lives in California. April is the teenage daughter of a rancher who was on her way to greatness until her mother passed away. After that, she started caring less and letting her self go more. Dyno and April did not get along at first...but of course when April and Dyno finally hook up, things get hot.
Written as a multi pov. Hot sexy bits, some cute one liners, and a long awaited hea are part of this story.
Would I recommend this book? I won't discourage you. Apparently many others loved this book with their 5 star reviews so I won't say no. I will let you form your own opinion.
Would I read more from this author? Yes. Like I said, I loved her Bent Zealot series and can not wait for more of that.
