Baron Luzader, former Navy SEAL, never liked to talk … until he was forced to do it as part of his post-service therapy. Now, he finds his free tongue gets him in trouble more often than not, especially when he’s assigned to work a surveillance mission with a brilliant, beautiful woman. Eight years in Special Ops didn’t prepare him for Nessa.
Nessa Dimmick finally has a chance to prove herself in her field of Information Management. The biggest perk of the new job turns out to be her hunky partner, a former Navy SEAL with a great smile and no filter on what he says. Baron is different than anyone she’s ever worked with and his constant stream-of-consciousness compliments keep her blushing. She’s new to this whole partner thing, however, and they both have to figure out that trust goes both ways.
When their surveillance takes them across the Mexico border, Nessa wants to prove herself in the unfamiliar environment and gets in over her head. If she can’t learn to trust Baron, her actions could put the two of them and their relationship in danger.
I loved that this vet was able to work through his PTSD and come out on the other side able to talk out his feelings and live his life abundantly. The romance was fabulous, and the suspense was very believable. Alone? In a foreign country? Would I want a SEAL to rescue me? Ummmmm.... YES, PLEASE!!!
This book is great! The chemistry between the two main characters jumps off the page. You will love laughing with them and falling in love with them. There is also some suspense in this sweet romance.
I loved the characters and the banter (which is why I enjoy Banner), but I thought the ending was rushed and unsatisfactory. First of all, the reasons for Nessa doing stupid, non-analytical things seemed rather out of character without much to support her thought processes. Yes, I hated her decisions, but mostly because, for such a smart woman who thinks everything through, she was an idiot. Yes, she didn't have much experience thinking through her emotional responses, but her reasoning always seemed a little forced. The worst part of the book was the end. They were at a certain point in the case, then suddenly it was four months later and we eventually get a paragraph of what happened with the case. It definitely needed a better transition scene to link the parts because it was hard to follow. Even a couple pages of what they did before/after they left Mexico and who they handed things over to would have helped immensely. It seemed like the author just ran out of time or space to flesh things out.
This book was an ok read. I liked Baron, but didn't care much for Nessa. Especially after the stunt she pulled in Mexico.
One thing that bothered me was that Baron and Nessa were investigating this drug situation. Nessa was dead set on doing it with or without Baron. Then, there is this huge chunk of the story missing. We go from her little find in the bathroom (ridiculous behavior by the way), to dancing, to them hearing about the results of the investigation that the book never mentioned again with any detail, to their HEA.
It was interesting how this book would grab my attention, then peter out to boring. In that sense, a bit of a rollercoaster ride. I have never read anything from this author before, but I would be willing to try something else he has written.
This one was an okay book. It was a quick read with a hea, but... well... I hate to say it but the characters were just plain idiots. The main guy Baron was fine, but Nessa... geez, I really don’t like writing negative reviews, I’m sorry, Daniel Banner because the writing is great and the idea is cute. But her character is just plain unrealistic.
I mean, come on. This girl supposedly has a doctorate from cal tech or some fancy school like that, and she’s stupid enough to think she can run off to Mexico and stop a drug deal on her own? And Baron thinks that’s okay because she’s a nerd? And he’s just going to go along with it instead of throwing her over his shoulder and dragging her back to safety?
And she’s going to run off IN MEXICO to prove herself as capable? Like, she’s got a doctorate and kicks some A as a techy chick, I’m pretty sure techy girls hide behind the hot navy seals or at least stand next to them.
I mean, I’m near the age of the girl in the story, and I don’t know a single girl who would ever be this idiotic. Does this chick want to die?
Anyway, I’ll stop ranting.
I gave the book 4 stars because the writing was good and the idea was good, but I think this author needs to talk to some girls around the age of his characters, because her level of idiocy is just kind of insulting to the rest of us nerdy chicks and 20 somethings in general. Would love to read this book again with a Nessa who acts like an actual person.
I’m not entirely sure I’ve read a romance written by a male before, but, being part of this series and since I saw an intro note that Hart inserted into her SEAL boxset that cause me to track down all the books of this series to read, I was more than eager to dive in. Honestly, it really didn’t feel any different which perhaps is the mark of a great author. I loved the characters and the stark honesty in this book.
About time a story did what I've been wanting in a book. A hero and heroin that say exactly what they are thinking. It's rare if ever done. I loved how it was done in this book. I will say it was more of a love story with a short moment of her questioning his honesty and taking off. This overshadowed any storyline. I still really liked it hence the 4 stars.
Turns out saying everything that comes to mind can be appealing. I really enjoyed the characters. I would have given five stars, but there was a part of the plot that bugged me.
you are very. very talented!!!!! my brother was a fireman captain and paramedic!! and had to type his reports....sure couldnt write a book..... i teally enjoyed your book and will be looking for new ones!!!!
I love the characters and how they interact so well together. Their connection is so real and the story truly flows very well. I have read other books by this Arthur and plan to read more. It was a wonderful journey.
