Dive under the surface to where it all started…

For her entire life, Pearlina has never felt as if she belonged with her troop. Life above the surface always fascinated her, especially the humans living on land. The only opportunity for her to interact with them is during her once in a lifetime Drywalking ceremony where she must choose a human to sacrifice. Failure to complete the task will banish her from the troop for the rest of her life.

Pearlina is more than prepared for the duty. That is until she meets a handsome and charming man along with the other townspeople in The Burrow. They threaten to change everything she ever knew about the so-called dangerous creatures living on land.

As the clock ticks down her time away from her troop, Pearlina must choose between what she has always known and what feels right in her heart.

It's great to see Pearl's story. Learning how she and Ben meet and circumstances surrounding they're meeting really gives good closure to this series.

I really love this series, part mystery, part romance, part family drama. The last two books in this series have been fantastic and this has been no exception. I really enjoyed it.

This is the third book in Katlyn Duncan’s, ’Sisters’ Secret’ series, and is told from Pear’s point of view and brings the trilogy together nicely. This book focuses on Pearlina, who is a mermaid, who lives with her troop under the sea at the beginning of the book but we know from the previous books, that she has been living on land as a human, has married and has two daughters, Rose and Reen. This book looks back at how her decisions shaped her life, and why ‘Mermaid Lore’ is widely spoken about in The Burrows.
Pearl was always fascinated with life above the surface and those humans living on land, she had always been taught that humans are dangerous land creatures but she learns this to be a lie.
Every ten years a mermaid must take part in a, ‘Drywalking Ceremony’, where the mermaid must choose a human sacrifice. Spending the few days on land with these so-called dangerous creatures in order to choose her sacrifice Pearl learns that the inhabitants of the seaside town, The Burrow are not so dangerous. Handsome and charming Ben in particular catches her eye. As the clock ticks, and it’s time to choose her sacrifice, Pearl must, “choose between what she has always known and what feels right in her heart”. Failure to choose a sacrifice and take part in the ‘Drywalking Ceremony’ will mean Pearl is banished from her troop and life as a mermaid for ever.
I loved this book and its mix of romance, fantasy, and people’s experience of love. A fairly short read, this is a gripping story and I was enchanted by the whole series, and how the family’s secret was slowly and magically revealed and their story told from the different perspective of the women.
I recommend the whole series, and although each book can happily be read as stand-alone novels, I personally feel you get to understand the women better by reading the books in the order the author intended.

The Sisters’ Secret: Pearl is the third book in The Sisters’ Secret series by Katlyn Duncan.

Pearlina has always been fascinated by human kind. Her fascination turned to horror when witnessing one of their own banished because they did not complete their Drywalker ceremony.

Many years later, Pearl has come of age for her Drywalker Ceremony.

She is transformed into a human and is required to capture a human sacrifice within a limited time period of 5 night cycles. This sacrifice will grant her acceptance back into the troop and her betrothal to the selected mate.

As each day passes her curiosity and fondness of humans makes her hesitate to select a sacrifice. Will Pearl decide on who to sacrifice and return home?

A well written new adult story. Although this is the third book in the series, it was easy to read as a standalone book. Overall I enjoyed the tale of Pearl but I wasn’t too fond of the main character’s style of POV throughout the book.

Star rating: 3.5

This is the third book in a series entitled ‘The Sisters’ Secrets.’ The first one is called ‘The Sisters’ Secrets: Rose’, which I haven’t read, though I have read the second book which focused mainly on Reen. I don’t think it matters that much if they are read out of sequence.

The novel was about a mermaid needing to go to dry land to make a sacrifice for a ceremony and realising that those on land are no different to herself. "The Sisters’ Secrets: Pearl" had all the required ingredients that make a really fantastic story in its genre: from the mood and undercurrents to the good writing and the experience of love.

I recommend this very engaging, if a little short, read to those with a fondness for books about mermaids.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my own request, from HQ Digital via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Recap: Pearlina must complete her Drywalking Ceremony and bring back a human sacrifice but love gets in the way.

Review: I have enjoyed all three books in this series. The mermaid POV this time was so well written that you felt sympathy for them from the beginning and I was assessing each human Pearl met as to whether they would be a good sacrifice! My only niggle was that when she decided not to go back there was a lot of she never fit in anyway but prior to her ceremony she was a model mermaid and that was all she'd ever wanted. Obviously it's a fast love story, she only has a few days, but the emotion feels real and fits with what we know from the previous books.

This is the final part in a trilogy and as such the previous two books should be read first in order to fully understand the story.

In the previous two books, there are various hints as to part of Pearls story. This book takes us back to see Pearl as a young mermaid attempting to find her place in her family. She has a task to do and as she sets out Pearl has every intention of achieving it. But she soon finds herself torn between what she should do to claim her heritage, and what her heart is telling her to do.

This is a perfect ending to the series. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.

Previously having read about Reen and Rose, I was looking forward to reading Pearl's story too.
Pearl arrives on land intent on capturing a human to take back to her family to complete the ceremony that is required of her. She quickly grows attached to the humans that help her - one in particular and has a difficult choice to make; her family or her human? Which will she choose?
It was great to read Pearl's story, it finishes off the trilogy nicely, but I do wish there more stories to come in this series.

A great followup to the first two sisters stories.
Pearls story is much more full on from the word go, with Pearl in her mermaid home. What was only really hinted at in Reen and Roses stories is now unfurled in full.
Suspending disbelief at the idea of mermaids was tricky for me but once you get into it the story captures you, from the description of their home, the brutal ceremony they must all go through and the decisions Pearl had to make at every turn to eventually find her happiness.
A really great ending to an easy to read, escapist trilogy.

I have loved reading the stories of The Secret Sisters, it was great to get to know the young Pearl and her back story.

Pearl came to be on dry land as part of the traditional ritual that takes place every 10 years. This story walks you through the few days in which she spends on dry land and the experiences that lead her to the sacrifices that she makes that shape her future with Ben.

A brilliant conclusion to these stories that I really enjoyed. I found that the more I read about these 3 women the more invested I became in discovering where Pearl originally came from.

This is my third novel in the collection and although this is where the story really begins I found it my least favourite. This book focuses in Pearl the mum of Rise and Reen and her arrival in The Burrows
I personally found there were too many discrepancies and after a while it irritated me, spoiling my enjoyment
I still enjoyed the author's writing style and it was an easy read
Thank you to TBC Reviewer group for my copy of this novel

What a lovely series. I have read about Reen and Rose beforehand and loved how it all came together, reading Peal's story.
The mix of family ties, drama and a dash of mermaid mystery made it, same as the other two, a page turner. So well written and I have to admit, knowing more of the background having read 'Pearl', I will read Rose and Reen again now. I am sure there were things I have missed the first time around. Definitely a 5 star and I recommend it.

Number three in this family story Pearl tell the story of Rose and Reens mother Pearl. This story tells of how the girls parents met and the obstacles they overcame to be together. Pearl in her momments of lucidity manages to tell her daughters about where she came from and what she was before. Lots of events become clear, bringing the girls closer and secrets unveiled. I enjoyed all three of these books, and will be looking for more of this author to read.

Sisters Secret- Pearl
I received a copy of this book from TBC Reviewers request- Thank you
This is the 3rd book in the series and as always’ I’d recommend that you read the first 2 books in the series first to get the best experience of Katlyn’s writing. It is very different read to the first 2 books in the series but still very good.
Thank you

I didn’t quite know what to expect from this one - I’m not a romance reader and I don’t usually go or fairy-tale settings either but I really liked the cover and I fancied something a little different so I picked it up.
Lo and behold it was really really lovely and enjoyable and original - an easy, entertaining read with just the right amount of magic - a brilliant antidote to all the dark stuff I usually read. It also works perfectly as a stand-alone - However, I’m off to read the others in the series now!
