I love Brenda Jackson, she unfreezes a small piece of my heart with her beautiful words. However, this book missed the mark for me. In reading the synopsis you're led to believe this book is about ONE couple trying to find their way in love, but in reality, it's a story about three couples and another couple jumps in from time to time. I found that while reading At Long Last, it was easy to forget about the main couple because we spent so much time with the others. The focus just wasn't centered and made this a hard read.
Logan knew he loved Claire, probably before he even met her. His brother married her sister. They became friends and kept in touch. When tragedy strikes, he is immediately there for her. He realizes that life is too short and he needs to get her to love him as much as he loves her. She is avoiding love because she is afraid of losing that person like she lost her first love and her father. Logan and Claire go on a trip together and it doesn't take long for things to heat up between them. Sean messed up with his bestfriend Liz and she disappears. He hires a private detective to find her and then finds out that she also has twin little girls. He was going after her anyway, but finding out he is a father adds to his urgency. He wants to get her back in his life. Even Logan's father Jeremiah meets someone special. I enjoyed this book a lot. It was so good. I enjoyed watching these couples fall in love and get to their happily ever after. This was a great series.
Although I enjoyed the separation of the couples I didn't feel that gribs you that you can't put it down and that's a shame because she will always be one of my favorite writers and I will always read what ever she puts out there!
4.5 A tragedy that occurred while Claire Fowler was working in Algiers, 4 of her friends are killed in a birthday celebration and it sends her back to the States to grieve the friends she lost. She can't get out of her mind that she could have been one of the victims had she not decided at the last minute to forgo a night out with her friends for a while why she tried to get over a headache. Now she's not only dealing with grief but with guilt. Dr. Logan Montgomery is convinced he fell in love with Claire when he first met her three years ago, thanks to his brother Lance, who married Claire's younger sister Asia. Logan can't get out of his mind that Claire could have been one of the victims. He knows the emotions she is dealing with and is determined to help her get through them. Logan also knows it is time to pursue the woman he loves. She will be leaving to return to Algiers in a month, and he is determined to do whatever it takes to capture her heart before that happens. They embark on a bucket list tour in the US and on a journey of seduction. (Dad Jeremiah Montgomery finds love with Thea; Sean finds love with Liz and their twins)
Nice quick read, a little slow, but enjoyed traveling through the southwestern states
In Book 4 of the Playas series we see Logan finally go after his ideal woman, Claire. Claire has come back to the states because of a near death experience that has left her empty and hurt. Logan is alerted by his sister in law Asia. Asia and Claire are sisters. Logan goes to DC to finally pursue his lady love and plans a trip of a lifetime for them. Claire needs what Logan has to offer but has plans to only make this an affair during this trip. Logan pulls out all stops to make Claire see he has every quality she would need in a relationship. Logan is a patient man. He gives her himself like no one has ever loved a woman. Will he succeed in capturing her heart or will she her career over the possibility of a lifetime of happiness? In this story we also read of the tale of Father Montgomery and a new love interest. Included also is a follow up about Sean Crews who was an ex- fiance of Asia Fowler Montgomery. Overall this was a great story, but adding the two additional stories was too much for me.. I love MS. Jackson as a romantic writer .
I enjoyed this book. I liked the two main characters. Logan was a nice successful guy, perhaps too nice. It was refreshing to have a male lead character who was willing to wait for one woman that he loved. I liked that Claire was an independent woman that had an interesting job and life, but still seemed like a realistic woman. The build up to the I love you's took a little long for my liking. I did not read the other books in the Playas Series. I had no emotional investment into Sean's story line so I just skimmed through those chapters. Perhaps, I would have if I read the other books. I also enjoyed the addition of an older couple falling in love, with Jeremiah and Thea's story line. The book was a little too long in my opinion. However, I like all the descriptions of the places Logan and Claire went. As someone who wants to travel to similar places that was nice. I will definitely read the other books in the series, they sound interesting.
Welp. I'm trying to write this ~review on 3/13/21 sooooo literally more than half a year later - which with the pandemic and political stuff is more like 6 years ...
I :X don't remember much about this book.
I know Claire had a lot of survivor's guilt. And Logan was smitten.
For some reason I was thinking Logan was around too? There was some ~odd twist. :X But ... yeah.
I remember liking this book but maybe there was some angst 😒 too. But - I know I wouldn't be opposed to listening to it again. Which - I might do at some point. :P
Wonderful conclusion to this series (which was the last book at that time). While this was Logan Montgomery's (3rd brother of the family) story, I was happy Ms. Brenda included love stories for Jeremaiah Montgomery (patriarch of the family) and Sean Cruz. It was wonderful catching up with Lance, Lyle and Carrie along with their spouses.
When I saw A Montgomery Thanksgiving was being released later this year, I realized I never completed the Playa Series. It was great rereading the one I did read and catching with the others in anticipation of the new book.
Ms. Jackson does it again. A wonderful end to a great series. Lance and Claire story was well worth the wait. The highs and lows and wrap ups were great. Mrs.Jackson sense of family and patience makes her stories keepers. The raw sexiness of Lance and Claire. The sweetness of second time love of Jeremiah and Thea and the fight for love recognize for Sean and Liz all keep the reader engaged. I loved it.
The last book in the Player’s series didn’t disappoint. It was three love stories in one book. Brenda Jackson told the stories of Lance, his father Jeremiah and a doctor by the name of Sean. The stories came off the pages full of love and passion. Kudos on another best seller from Mrs. Jackson.
Great surprise, three stories in one fantastic read!
Wonderful, wonderful! This conclusion in the series was worth the wait; I was not disappointed. Sean and Jeremiah are included and Mrs. Jackson continues to explore, expand, and excite as each story unraveled and revealed true love.
Another great book by Mrs. Jackson. Not because she is one of my all time favorites, but because she writes with intrigue and style. Thank you for Logan and Claire's story as well as Sean and Liz's story. Just knowing they all connected after struggles and love 💘 conquers all. Right down to their parents. I Loved this book, looking forward to her next book.
This was a fantastic read, but there was way too much going on. This story was a wonderful long awaited wrap up of the Playas Series, but at the same time attempted to wrap up too many story lines. At times it became confusing as to which person/couple was being discussed. The conclusions of the plot lines were great.
At Long Last is the perfect title for the story of Logan Montgomery and Claire Montgomery. We have seen the booth in earlier books in the Playas series , their story was epic. The entire time I was reading I kept hearing the song in my mind "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen. Another great book Brenda.
Very good story. Brenda Jackson was one of the first authors I read when I was first introduced to romance novels. I chose this book because of the audio version so I could listen while I worked out. I increased my walking distances because I didnt want to stop listening to the book. She is still a very good author and I’ve enjoyed her books for years.
Great book. I enjoyed getting to know Logan and Claire. You will enjoy their story from beginning to end. They both struggle with things in the past especially Claire will she be able to overcome those fears to have her happily ever after.
Ms. Jackson is phenomenal! Her characters in this book all come to life. She told a beautiful continued love story, which included the entire Montgomery family and their friends. By far Lance is still my favorite!
This was a great story about friends becoming lovers. Both Asia and Liz were in denial. Logan and Swan weren't going to give up on the women they loved. Great story over all.
Great that Claire and Lance finally got there story as well as catching up on the entire Fowler and Montgomery clan. Good seeing Sean Crews get his happily ever after also.
Hi this story was well written but I’m not surprised Brenda has put a lot of hard work in her novels and a lot of hope, love, and knowledge in her readers. Keep up the good wonderful work.
Brenda Jackson does it again. In this book she has developed multiple characters very well. I love the way she bounces back-and-forth from one character to another. I feel as if I'm getting to know a whole new group of characters for Jackson's books.
I began this book thinking it was just one story and it ended up being 3 stories and I enjoyed them all. It is nice to read about different characters and not get lost.
Like the audio version wanted the book and i don't like that she tried to use her one and only relationship where her fiance died as the reason not to get in another one
I enjoyed this story with lots of tender moments and the twist where it was Claire not interested in a relationship. I know there were three couples but l was only interested in Claire and Logan. Read others for a more balanced view.
I have read almost all of her books and this is by far the worst. The characters were stiff and the dialogue was bad. The plot was simple but slow. One of my favorite authors but I hope this is not what to expect in the future.
Wow! Brenda never disappoints!! From playa, lovers, friends and at last soulmates!! BJ books are always worth the read!! Each character had their own story!
As always I love all of Brenda Jackson stories. This book is the finale for all of the Montgomery family ending with Logan and Claire but you get tid bits from the others as well.
