Blood Genesis

Rate this book
Before there was a modern-day town called Dark Moon Vale, there was an ancient kingdom nestled in the Transylvanian Alps. Before there was a primordial species called the Vampyr, there was a celestial race begotten of gods and men. Before light battled shadow, the sacrifice became mandatory, or the first Blood Moon adorned the celestial sky...

There was the Curse.

A punishment.
An abomination.
The ultimate act of vengeance.

And it was placed upon a people so corrupted by their thirst for blood and dominion that they awakened the souls of the slain ~ and became the souls of the damned.

Before the Blood Curse Series, there was a beginning.

Tessa Dawn grew up in Colorado, where she developed a deep affinity for the Rocky Mountains. After graduating with a degree in psychology, she worked for several years in criminal justice and mental health before returning to get her master’s degree in nonprofit management.

Tessa began writing as a child and composed her first full-length novel at the age of eleven. By the time she graduated high-school, she had a banker’s box full of short-stories and novels. Since then, she has published works as diverse as poetry, greeting cards, workbooks for kids with autism, and academic curricula. Her Dark Fantasy/Gothic Romance novels represent her long-desired return to her creative-writing roots and her passionate flair for storytelling.

Tessa currently splits her time between the Colorado suburbs and mountains with her two children and “one very crazy cat.” She hopes to one day move to the country where she can own horses and what she considers “the most beautiful creature ever created” -- a German Shepherd.

She is a member of NINC; SFWA; and RWA(PAN).

Writing is her bliss.

If you think you know the story of the Blood Curse, trust me, you don’t…

Long before Dark Moon Vale there was a time of death, betrayal, vengeance and a love so strong that not even a brother drenched in madness could quell it. Nothing will prepare you for the emotional ride Tessa Dawn takes you on. Rich in texture and beauty with equal parts darkness and pain, this tale is not for the weak, it is no fairytale however, there’s beauty in the pain that is reflected through the story. As with any book written by the incredibly talented Tessa Dawn, when you read the last page you yearn for more.

If Dark Fantasy is what you enjoy, journey back to a time where Kings ruled, brothers divided, no woman was safe and innocence was lost…forever.

Blood Genesis is the prequel to the Blood Curse Series and is a must-have for devoted readers and new readers alike. Pick it up today, and get ready to experience what it’s like to know the Blood Curse.

This is the prequel to the Blood Curse Series. This book gives us a rare glimpse into what it was really like for the last female and her love before the Blood Curse came about.

I wasn't sure how I was feeling about this one for majority of the book. On the one hand, it was interesting in certain parts. But overall I didn't really feel any intensity with the telling of the story. It's like I was reading someone's diary & not really being taken back to the time all this actually occurred. It's almost like this novella didn't really need to be written cos it held no real weight for me on what I've already come to know about the series & why. If that makes sense?

However...
I'm waiting for something really remarkable, shocking, & heartfelt to truly happen in real time & really draw me in...
^This^ was how I was feeling at the 65% mark of this novel, and though it didn't improve by much, I must say the final chapter & Epilogue did carry some weight & just a little bit of heartbreak for me as I witnessed what was occurring. But again, it didn't really go that deep in the Show & Tell of what was occurring at that time. So there was still a big disconnect for me. It was touching to a degree. Especially when you consider the sacrifice that was being made by Timaos & Jessinia, what it meant for them & the future of their people. Buuuut the intensity & heart wrenching emotion I was hoping to feel & witness, just wasn't there for me. *shrugs*

If you are a lover of this series like myself, then I would say read this Novella if you're curious. It is interesting. But it's not what I would consider a must & all consuming read. If you're just starting this series, you definitely don't have to read this one before starting book one. Whether you're a "Newbie" to this series or a seasoned fan, if you read this one, your love or hate for it(This book), could go either way.

I wasn't through the first chapter yet and my emotions were welling up...I have always loved this series and wanted the back story of the curse so badly. I am just astonished once again at Tessa Dawn's ability to make you feel so much for these characters and this world she has created so expertly. I won't post spoilers(because I don't like them) but please, please if you havent read this series, try it. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. Dark Fantasy at its absolute best. Characters you feel for and want to follow. A world of Darkness and Light that will touch your very soul. I look for series that can push the limits of my emotions and imagination and have read many but never one like this. Thank you again Tessa for all you have given us with this series. Look forward to the next with bated breath

We always hear about stories that capture the imagination. As readers, we long to come across those fantastic tales that engage our minds and touch our hearts. We want to be pulled into those worlds and feel as if we are just as much a part of what is happening as the characters. After six novels, Tessa Dawn has proven to be a master storyteller by taking us into the lives, hearts and minds of the vampires of Dark Moon Vale and now she has done it again by taking us into the heart of the very curse that brought those wonderful characters to us.

Blood Genesis is a well-crafted short story that allows readers, both loyal fans and new, a glimpse into the origins of the Blood Curse that plagues the lives of the vampires we have grown to love. Through this tale we learn more about the brothers, Jadon and Jaegar, patriarchs of the great vampire houses and the architects of the events that led to the world we know today in Dark Moon Vale. As with all of her work, Tessa’s words allow us to feel the fear, the anger and the love that exists in the world she has created, only this time…those feelings exist in the ancient lands during a time of war and darkness. This prequel is a great starting point for new readers to the Blood Curse series. And trust me, once you’ve finished, you’ll be craving more.

3.5 stars.

This prequel does not have to be read before the series. I wanted to read it before Book 11 comes out because I'm hoping some of the mythology comes back into play in the next book. I'm excited about one of the characters mentioned in this prequel appearing in Book 11.

For a PNR series this type of ancient vampire mythology feels unique and inspired. I do wish this prequel was longer and that it was less expensive. It rubs me the wrong way when authors sell 'books' that are under a 100 pages for $3. This prequel is only 68 pages.

If you thought you knew anything about vampires, think again. Tessa Dawn has taken a whole new spin on the supernatural beings, finally providing a story you can get completely lost in. Blood Genesis is full of emotions you couldn't imagine getting from mere words on a page. Throwing you into a time of chaos, it brings love and tragedy to a whole new level. Tessa Dawn is a different kind of author, an author who brings real entertainment and pleasure to the reading world. Taking you on an emotional roller coaster with every turn of the page, you have no choice but to hang onto every word that is taking your emotions into a tailspin. As an avid reader of the Blood Curse Series, i was excited to see the publishing of prequel. Knowing and loving the series, to have an in-depth look of the beginning was more than i could've hoped for. It gave so much excitement and another fabulous look at the talented writing of Tessa Dawn, still throwing her readers for a loop even on a concept we already know. Tessa Dawn has once again revealed her superior skills of bringing a book to life, leaving a reader remembering why they picked up the Blood Curse Series in the first place.

Wow, again Wow, I would not have thought it possible.....Tessa Dawn's prequel to " the Blood Curse series " ...Blood Genesis added even more Layers of emotion to what to me is probably THE BEST Dark Fantasy/Paranormal series EVER!!! Also as this book is not a full length book I feel like it explained and added so much more with such Raw emotion, from love to sacrifice ( literally and figuratively ) hate and compassion....I just can't do this book justice with my pitiful writting, I will leave that to Tessa who, well ROCKS IT! Thank you and I am eagerly awaiting Blood Vengeance..... And so much more......AWESOME....AWESOME....AaWESOME....

Another hit-it-out-of-the-park book for Tessa Dawn. I've made no secret that I love this series. Dark, gritty, suspenseful, sexy...need I say more? Tessa is one of the writers that just gets better with every book. Sometimes in a series you see the writing quality decline. Not with this series! It only improves.

I enjoyed this prequel immensely. It shed even more light on the history of the blood curse and the ancient actions that have impacted the lives of our vampires in Dark Moon Vale. I would highly recommend this book for reading at any point in the series, but believe new readers would find it to be a perfect starting point. As always, I can't wait to see what Ms. Dawn has in store for us next!

Keep those sexy vampires coming our way!

I was thrilled when Blood Genesis (Blood Curse #0.5)was released!

Learning about the events that lead up to the curse and how it was to affect the members of the houses of Jadon and Jaegar as well as what happened to 10 year old Napolean Mondragon made for a riveting read!

I love reading any and all stories that involve this world and am looking forward to "Blood Vengeance"!

REVIEW
New to me author.
Jessenia is going to be murdered simply because she is a female but she is not just any female she is the last female.
Her lover Timaos however will now be killed also unless he does Jessenia's final words to him. Prince Jaegar was an evil man and his soldiers were well versed in torture before death. His brother Jadon is evil but not as badly.
Will the gods and goddesses give Jessenia the answers? Well both of these brothers of doom are given a word / curse from someone higher than them.
This is a very short intro into the world of dark and light, good vs. evil. I am going to have to delve now into the world so I can see what happens.

I was loaned a copy of this book via Amazon loan

I believe this short story definitely gives enough background on the entire series. However, it ends a little prematurely! I would have loved to know what happens in the royal hall not just what leads to it.

Blood Genesis a prequel to the Blood Curse series. If you are an avid Blood Curse series reader, then here are all the major pieces to the puzzle. If you have yet to open the first book of the Blood Curse series, Blood Destiny, then you are about to start a journey unlike any other. Within the pages of this novella, Author Tessa Dawn guides you once again, through the tunnels and chambers of such a detailed and intricate story. Tessa has given her readers, as well as newcomers, the key to unlock the hidden truths behind the closed door. The battle of good and evil, the beginning of an underestimated vengeance, the love that will never die and the sacrifices for the greater good. Sit back and enjoy the beginning of a new world, the creation of a lethal species, and a path to the chosen destiny. Happy reading!

Narrator Performance: 🎧🎧🎧🎧

Having already listened to the first couple of books in the Blood Curse series I can easily say that this is a good into to the series. It definitely does the job of a prequel which is to entice the reader into continuing the series while only giving them a taste of the author’s writing style. I’m downloading my copy of BLOOD DESTINY as I’m writing this…

I was happy with the narration but felt he was a bit fast for what was going on in the story.

while this story was very entertaining I probably would not have continued with the series had it been set in the same time frame as this book. so with that said the author leaving the note about the folding booms and how they will resume in present day made me change my mind. I will probably continue on with this series. very interesting introduction.
