Trinn Ma'allard doesn't like dying. When she is revived on an unfamiliar beach, she finds herself stranded far from home. The mermaid Queen Ortonfrohn does little to explain what happened, and leaves Trinn stranded in a strange country. A chance encounter with a witch named Constance leaves Trinn questioning everything she thought she knew about herself, and about the Deep.
The vivid flashbacks are gone, but in their place are dreams of her past that leave Trinn confused and afraid. She sets out to confront the Dreads, and to force them to help her. But what if the cost is more than she can pay?
Part 3: The Nomad picks up where The Palisade Kingdom left off. Dive into a tale of magic, adventure, myth, and legend… all the things that make Janelle Garrett’s Steward Saga an unforgettable story.
This series is getting better and better! This is easily my favorite episode so far. While in the flashbacks we see Trinn sinking deeper and deeper into darkness and depravity, in the present timeline she comes upon a stranger (a familiar face for Rift in the Deep fans) who is remarkably perceptive. The conversation she has with this stranger are heart-wrenching and beautiful! We finally see Trinn begin to wrestle with her guilt, her shame, and her confusion.
Huge props to Janelle Garrett for weaving the story to get to this point and earning the right to share some profound thoughts on difficult topics! I can't wait to read the next installment!
Justice: The Nomad: A Steward Saga short story, my seventh read from author Janelle Garrett. An outstanding, highly detailed short 27 pages) work. I look forward to the next read from her. Up next: Justice: The Dreadwood: A Steward Saga short story. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
