VINCENT VAN GOGH: A Vincent Van Gogh Biography

Rate this book
VINCENT VAN A Vincent Van Gogh Biography Vincent Van Gogh is one of the world’s most well-known and revered artists – few people in the Western world have not heard his name and most will recognise his face from one of his many self-portraits or the numerous artistic representations of him on screen. His red beard, prominent cheekbones and expressive eyes make him a face that few can forget. Many of his paintings are instantly recognisable and reproductions of his most famous works hang in public buildings, workplaces and homes all over the world; The Starry Night, Sunflowers, Portrait of Dr Gachet, Café Terrace at Night and the Wheatfields paintings are some of the most widely reproduced images in the world. In fact, Van Gogh regularly comes up at the top of lists of the most famous and important artists to have ever lived. Few artists who came after Van Gogh would fail to acknowledge the legacy of his work and the impact it had on the progression of art in the twentieth century, which he barely lived to see.

I wanted to read a brief bio of Van Gogh before going to the Immersive Van Gogh Experience in Boston. There are many grammatical errors and some missing words. With such poor proofreading I question whether there was any fact checking.

Short read

Very short read with not much detail. Could use a biography of all his painting with dates and places painted

Good Basics

This book’s pace was what I needed to quickly learn about Van Gough. I found it interesting to read. Unfortunately the grammatical and typographical errors were distracting to me.

Enlightening

This book contained many interesting facts about the life of Van Gogh. It looked at the many odd behaviors and failures as well as his few but challenging relationships.

My wife loves Van Gogh's art. We wanted to know more about the man. Very interesting to learn about his journey and impact on impressionism, expressionism, and impressionism. He was a true juggernaut for his time and ahead of it.
