Luka makes the world light up Like a shooting star on a dark night. Luka's best friend would do anything for her, but when Luka wishes for a unicorn, what is a best friend supposed to do?! From an exciting debut author and one of our country's most loved illustrators comes this stunning story of hope, persistence and the magical power of friendship (and unicorns).
A little girl tries to cheer her sick friend by finding her a unicorn. It's a fun, very sweet story, but the illustrations really make it for me, the highlight being the rainbow unicorn poop!
We don’t know the name of Luka’s best friend but we do know that she is the sort of friend that you would want to have. When Luka is sick it takes a lot to cheer her up. Her best friend tries many strategies to help her but eventually it is the appearance of the magical unicorn which luckily adults can’t see, that makes Luka smile again. This is a lovely story about the slow healing power of hope and friendship from debut author and counsellor Maggie Hutchings. The gentle trademark illustrations from Cheryl Orsini match the text perfectly.
Another Maggie Hutchings! Evie was so excited when she pulled this book out of her review box and saw the author! “And look, it’s a different illustrator! How interesting.” In this book, Luka is sick and her best friend wants to make it better. Evie said: Unicorns make everything better. Luka’s friend goes hunting for one but Luka has very specific rules. She won’t be fooled. I liked this story, especially the rainbow poo. Ha ha. I think Maggie Hutchings is very good at choosing people to illustrate her books.
