Note: This review is for the entire series, issues 1-4.

This was different. Elektra ends up meeting the ghost of a blues musician in the body of a cat. There's also a basketball player that the hand wants to put all of their souls into so they create The Beast, who would have all the powers of every ninja in the Hand. That sounds a little weird because, well, it is. The art is very stylistic, but I liked it.

Overall the story got a little too metaphysical for me, but it was okay for something a little different.

Elektra is visiting the grave of her father. Suddenly a cat comes around the corner. She tells the cat she’s glad someone else visits him. Suddenly the cat is intrigued by something. The cat runs away. Elektra knows someone is coming. Ninja stars are thrown at her. She fights back. She asks if he is with the hand. He says if he wasn’t she would’ve killed him by now. He tells her that there is work for her still. He tells her to go to Moonshines and ask for Rick. She kills the man who repeats again to go see Rick. That night she goes to moonshines and is talking to a man who asks to buy her a drink but she says his presence makes her want to vomit. Another man says the black cat is still drawing the pretty girls eyes. She asks if that’s Black cat buddy Crawford. Her dad used to come here to watch him play. He died over 10 years ago. He played three times a week for 22 years and died on the stage. He had a passion for playing. His wife died in 1969 but his son Lyle would come watch him play. Lyle was a star basketball player and great student. The night he died, Lyle was telling Buddy about a help group he found on campus. It was called the hand. A Japanese group that would help him pay for school and basketball. Buddy wasn’t a fan of this he thought it was too good to be true. Lyle brings a recruiter named Takashi to talk to Buddy. Buddy still didn’t believe it. He just met this man. Now they were trying to help him pay for school like he does. Takashi talks to buddy about his horn and he lets him touch it. Buddy scolds Lyle more who eventually grabs Takashi and leaves. He goes back to playing the horn and dies right there. A heart attack. The man believes the Japanese man put a curse on the horn. Suddenly, Elektra is summoned to see Rick. She goes in and they say Jackie said this conversion needed to be private. Rick questions Elektra. She says she can defend herself and he says that’s why she’s here. He gives her a task to kill someone and pick up her thank you at an address. Outside, a ninja goes after her. He tells her it’s a big job and not to mess up. She chased after him and kills him. He says things will get scary if she doesn’t do the job. He says she might end up dead again.
