What ultimately made up my mind to give this book only 3 stars (in spite of having some 4-star issues collected in it) is the fact that, because it is a McFarlane-centric collection, chapter 5 of Spider-Man: The Assassin Nation Plot is missing, and issue 328, the last McFarlane issue, feels out of place (it was part of the "Acts Of Vengeance" event, in which Spider-Man gets cosmic powers). Trouble is that #328 was tacked on solely because it's a McFarlane-penciled issue and otherwise has absolutely NO relevance to the rest of the stories collected in this book.

Highlights include bouts with Venom, as well as the "Assassin Nation Plot", even though it is incomplete for the complete story, check out the Spider-Man: The Assassin Nation Plot trade paperback, or better yet, the Amazing Spider-Man by David Michelinie & Todd McFarlane omnibus.

Venom goes after Spiderman again. And there's a plot to make a war between America and Silver Sable's country. The Venom story is really good, and is a page turner. The Silver Sable storyline not that good, a bit predictable and nothing new. Back to venom, it really looks at the character and its motivations, more than precious volumes. A good read. (NB the Venom story would have got 4 stars.)
