This is the manual every qualified accountancy professional needs to read before setting up their own practice. Having applied her corporate experience to building a modern cloud accountancy practice, Della Hudson presents her road map to help you to do the same. Here, she shares her hard-earned knowledge so that other accountancy professionals can grow their own successful, scaleable and even sellable businesses. This book is a road map that will help a qualified professional start a successful business from scratch with no personal or business contacts; move from the kitchen table to an office space; recruit and train a team of technical and administrative staff; create a highly systemised business, which can function independently of the business owner; run an ethical business that contributes to the local community; host and speak at business events; set up a marketing system that operates even during the busiest periods in order to grow the business organically; purchase and even sell a business.
This book is very basic and whilst it will no doubt be useful for Accountants just starting out, for already established firms, it will be of limited use. Did I learn anything from it? No, however it was interesting. Most of the ideas are so obvious that even most startups will find them of limited use. Monthly fees to assist with cash flow - this is pretty much standard practice. Cloud software - again, pretty much a standard thing. Increasing prices is advocated - again, nothing genius there. Utilising software - the author lists the software she used when in practice - perhaps useful for people just starting out. We are an established practice so maybe I’m not the target reader, but I can only give my own opinion and that is that the book is very basic.
Really good read. Split up into easy chunks and gives a well rounded view of all business areas. Good confidence boost for those wishing to step into their own business & defiantly recommend reading this first!
Fantastic book. Concise, to the point, covers every aspect of the topic at hand, including many I hadn't thought of. Short enough that it got read; long enough to cover what matters. Would heartily recommend this to anyone looking to start or improve their accountancy or bookkeeping business.
