He focuses on how to spot unicorns in the wild - as well as plenty of fun facts about their habitats and dietary needs.

He provides an in-depth analysis of the various breeds - from Water Moons to Desert Flames - this book has it all.

All in all - I am seriously impressed by this book.

The fun and fabulous way Selwyn wrote about unicorns was set the tone perfectly.

He spends a little of time talking about the different breeds - what they are known for, their special powers and histories. It was so cool to "learn" about the species!

In between the species spotlights, there were sections about unicorn habitats and habits.

In addition, the illustrations were more than a little amazing. Every page had these gorgeous full-color illustrations. They were beyond impressive.

The Magical Unicorn Society Official Handbook was a fun way to spruce up the genre - and I will definitely be picking up a copy for my younger cousins!

Do you ever read a book that is so wholesome and good that it restores all your faith in books in general? That was this book for me. It's so magical. I would have loved it as a little kid, but let's be real, my twenty-year old self loved this just as much. I liked how unique all the unicorns were, and how they came from all over the world. I also liked how the narrator of this book shared all these quirky stories, and historical facts about a world where unicorns do exist. The other thing about this book is the art is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous. I have never seen such gorgeous illustrations in any book, ever. Seriously, they're gorgeous. This book felt like I was getting wrapped in a warm hug, it was just so magical. I can't wait for the coloring book that is set in this world. I can't wait to reread this book again and again.

Gorgeous illustrations and in its way, it was an interesting read.

I just hadn't realised until after I added this to my Christmas wish-list that it's 100% a children's book. Still enjoyed it, though :)

Have you always wanted to know all you could about unicorns? Look no further and grab this gorgeously illustrated book!

I am a big fan of unicorns, and so I couldn't resist this book when I saw it on Twitter. I looked inside of it with a preview and fell in love even further. Order placed. Amazon get to sending it. And then it was in my hands and I was just in love with the shininess of it all.

The book is told from the POV of the current head of the society, whose name I already forgot, sorry dude. They will tell us all about where unicorns live (apparently woodland unicorns are all about living near me (yay!)), stories about each of the different kind of unicorns (like Storm Chasers who love storms, or the Water Moons who live on/in the water (and even they have variants)). We will learn about the first two unicorns, how they were created and how they started a world full of unicorns. We learn about various brave people who are closely connected to unicorns. It was magnificent and I have to say that I loved the randomness of it all. I was at first worried everything would just be stuffed together in groups. Yes, I love the stories but I don't think I would have been able to stand it all clustered together. Instead you get everything in a lovely random order. Stories, facts, alphabets, illustrations, food, and more.

The book is amazingly illustrated. Really, I just had to take a moment at times to just soak up all the loveliness and see all the details that were found in each of them.

I would recommend this book to everyone. And remember to believe!

This is lovely. The illustrations are captivating and I enjoyed the variety of unicorns from different regions (we have Desert Flames in our area, and the Woodland Flowers are my guardian unicorns) as well as the tidbits on unicorn lore and learning about the Magical Unicorn Society. I'm not rating it as I skimmed some of the stories so I can't speak to the quality of those, but really enjoyed everything I did read. I would recommend this to unicorn fans elementary age and above, on up through adults given the quality of the illustrations as it does not feel at all "kiddie" to me.

Znam, ovo nije knjiga za mene. Priče za laku noć za mlade buntovnice jesu dječja knjiga, ali realno mogu ih čitati svi. Društvo čarobnih jednoroga je dječja knjiga. Ali, ali, ali. Ma zaljubit ćete se u nju i nećete joj moći odoljeti. Kao što joj nisam mogla odoljeti ni ja.

Ovo je jedna od rijetkih knjiga koje sam čitala paralelno s drugom. Ta druga je The Stand, Stephena Kinga, gromada od 1325 stranica. Da, teglila sam ja nju sa sobom, ali sam onda shvatila da mogu ovu divnu poslasticu nositi sa sobom bez posljedica iskrivljene kralježnice.

Iako, bilo je malo čudno ju čitati na javnim mjestima. Onako, ljudi prođu pored mene i vide knjigu sa bojama, crtežima, šljokicama, jednorozima, pa se pitaju što mi je. Vide da oko mene nema djece, pa im na licu bude blagi osjećaj zbunjenosti. Zašto bi jedna odrasla osoba čitala knjigu o jednorozima?

Jednostavno, slatko mi je. Ponekad je potrebno otići u svijet mašte i uživati u čarobnim mjestima, bez nekog pretjeranog razmišljanja. Ponekad je potrebno opustiti se i povjerovati.

„Društvo čarobnih jednoroga okuplja ljude sa svih strana svijeta koji vole jednoroge. Zadatak članova i članica Društva jest zapisati sve što se može o tim jedinstvenim stvorenjima i zaštititi ih kada god je potrebno. Tragamo za jednorozima u njihovim prirodnim staništima, bilježimo pojedinosti o susretima s njima, proučavamo načine na koje žive i zapisujemo priče koje ih okružuju. I zato, ako želiš saznati sve o jednorozima, na pravom si mjestu.“

Knjiga obuhvaća sva temeljna znanja o jednorozima, pa ćete tako moći naučiti nešto o gorskim draguljima, šumskim cvjetovima, pustinjskim plamičcima, olujnim goničima, vodenim mjesecima, ledenim lutalicama i sjenovitim noćnicima.

Na kraju knjige moći ćete vidjeti koji je jednorog vaš zaštitnik, a kad to saznate, moći ćete se učlaniti u društvo čarobnih jednoroga (ja jesam član).

Zato, ako imate mališana, lijepo napravite svima šalice toplog kakaa i uronite u svijet čarobnih jednoroga.

Ako nemate mališana, nemojte misliti da trebate zaobići ovu knjigu. Naravno da ćete si napraviti šalicu toplog kakaa i otići u čaroban svijet!

An illustrated and charming guide to the modern unicorn, featuring beautiful illustrations from Papio Press and Helen Dardik and endearing little guides to the unicorns of the world and how you can spot them. It is a charming book and probably the most innocent little gem that has ever existed.

I have many things I want to say about this book that I'm not going to, for several reasons, but the main one is that this book is exactly what it wanted to be and whatever it is I wanted it to be won't change that.

The only reason I bought this was that it was illustrated by Zanna and Harry Goldhawk, collectively known as Papio Press, and I shall always prefer owning a book of illustrations by my favourite artists than just purchasing one or two prints or pieces. And it delivered their artwork in it's most pure form and I enjoyed it greatly.

What I hated was every thing else. Actually, that's a lie: I didn't realise it had been illustrated by Helen Dardik as well, and whilst I'm not as big a fan of her work as I am Papio Press, her work was still magical and incredibly easy on the eye to enjoy.

I dislike the modern interpretation of a unicorn and magic in general, like the much misunderstood fairy, but this book is not for me. It is not a look at the myth of the unicorn, it is a modern take on what they are today, which are cute creatures who help people. It isn't a book made for me, a folklore lover with a desire to know the history. Fair enough: I can't say I was expecting it to be that, but that doesn't mean I can't dislike the contents of this book intensely.

I don't want this to become a "why the modern view of unicorns is pathetic" review so I'll leave it there. It is a charming book, wonderfully illustrated with some nice little stories that aren't challenging nor particularly imaginative but offer a glimpse in to a magical world that is, for the most part, excluded to the little pink backpacks of tiny children only. There is only an innocence of calm here, which can be a relief considering not only the state of books but also the world. It just isn't made for someone like me unless they also want to own some lovely Papio Press artwork.

This is a brief guide to the Magical Unicorn Society, including some fun facts about unicorns, short stories full of unicorn lore, and sundry recollections by the 101st president of the Society. It includes lovely illustrations on each page and is a fun beginner guide for anyone who is looking into becoming a unicorn enthusiast.

Overall, this was pleasant to read. Some of the facts contradicted with my own experience with unicorns, and I'm saddened that the more resplendent "Glory of unicorns" was superseded by "Blessing of unicorns" to identify the collective. Obviously this is not a definitive guide, so I wasn't surprised to see absent facts. Perhaps future volumes will go deeper into lore from around the world. Have I joined the Society? No, I am not, but I am glad to finally know what family my unicorn guardian comes from, and I now know what snacks to leave out just in case it visits.

A creative and beautifully illustrated handbook on fictional unicorn lore that includes different types of unicorns, a map where to find them, how to communicate with them, what they eat, and much more. Od malička som mala rada jednorožce a vždy som dúfala že naozaj existujú. Táto príručka prináša dôkaz o tom že jednorožce naozaj existujú. No je ťažké tomu uveriť aj keď vás v tejto knižke sperádzajú rôzne druhy jednorožcov a o nich všetko čo sa dá zistiť. V tejto knižke sa nachádza aj test o tom aký ste jednorožec. Ja som VODNÍ MESIAC. Great detail is given about each unicorn family, their horns, hoof print patterns, and traits distinctive to that specific family. An entire world of unicorns in one book. This faux style memoir of the history of unicorns is a very enjoyable book that I think would be great for children (of all ages.) The artwork in the book is gorgeous, and really is the reason I grabbed this book up in the first place. The only downside to the book is that I wish it had a focus on how unicorns were actually seen throughout history. I know, this book is a child's book and based in fantasy. But that doesn't mean there couldn't be different designs in the style of unicorn (i.e. for example having some of the unicorns look more goat- like.) After all the popular horse style for unicorns didn't come around until the middle ages.

I just would have liked the book if it focused on that kind of variety. It's still a really good book, but after all reviews are meant to be about the book, flaws and all. While reading this book I really wanted to watch a documentary on the "history" of unicorns. There is a really good one on YouTube called The Magical Beasts if interested.

Ditulis ala-ala jurnal ilmiah berisi serba-serbi Unicorn yang ditulis oleh The Magical Unicorn Society, organisasi (fiktif) yang selama ratusan tahun telah berkecimpung meneliti unicorn di seluruh dunia. Suka banget! Bikin yang baca merasa kalau unicorn itu memang ada.
Isinya mulai dari pengklasifikasian unicorn (ada 7 jenis unicorn di seluruh dunia), ciri khas dan karakteristik masing-masingnya, sampai asupan makanan yang mereka konsumsi!
Di akhir buku bahkan ada kuis kepribadian untuk mengetahui jenis apakah Guardian Unicorn di diri kita. Ehehehe... duluuu pertama kali baca buku ini di tokbuk, si Gie nyobain kuis ini dan dapat tipe Unicorn "Desert Flame", tapi kali ini si Gie coba dapat tipe "Woodland Flower".

S E N A N G pokoknya sama buku ini!! Heheheheehehehehe~
