[2017] This book is not without merit and no one can argue that it does not contain much detailed and meticulous research. It is well written and is without a doubt a resource for all those interested in the history of Cornwall.
However it has two main flaws (in my opinion) for some reason the author appears to try hard to de-emphasise the uniqueness of Cornwall, and in so doing succeeds in alienating his Cornish readers and secondly and most importantly the book actually tells you little about Tudor Cornwall. The 95% of the population that don't feature much in London records are practically ignored. The tinners, farmers and fishermen - their story - the story of Cornwall (admittedly difficult to piece together) fails to be explored. This book should have been titled 'The History of a few rich families in Cornwall'.
