One Way Ticket to Paris

Rate this book
When I was a kid and I’d lost something, my dad always said ‘Go back to the place you last had it’. The problem is that what I’ve lost is… me.

Kate loves her family more than anything, but recently she has started to feel invisible. Lying awake at three a.m. as her husband snores, panicking about shopping lists, birthday parties, and the school bake sale…

She finds herself in the kitchen, gulping water, staring at a postcard of the Eiffel Tower from Shannon, her best friend.

Paris, with its red wine, slippery cobbles and curly lampposts. Where the scent of freshly-baked croissants hangs in the air, and Kate last remembers feeling like herself.

The postcard is a year old. It has just one line on it: When are you coming?

An inspiring, feel-good tale of friendship, love, and what happens when running away is the only way you can find your way home. Perfect for fans of Sophie Kinsella, Jane Green and Marian Keyes.

What a fun heartwarming story, set against the backdrop of a beautiful Paris!...

This is Emma Robinsons third book and I have had the pleasure of reading them all... what I love about her books is they are so relatable, books about real people with real lives and real problems.... she tells you like it is in an engaging and humorous way.... The good... the bad... and the ugly... of being a mother, of being a wife, of being a woman... her books reaffirm the fact that you are having normal feelings and that you’re not alone!

I think every mother of small children has had a moment where she just wants to escape! Kate lying awake in the middle of the night unable to sleep... her husband is snoring, her for-year-old is taking over half the bed, and all she can think is; how much is a train ticket to Paris? We’ve all been there, but Cate actually purchased that ticket and got on the train! On the train she met Laura who was on the way to a business meeting, Laura is wanting to move forward in her relationship, while her boyfriend of many years seems to be just fine with its current status...When Kate arrives in Paris she meets up with an old friend Shannon, Shannon seems to have embraced life, but does Shannon have some struggles of her own? Three women all in their 30s all in very different stages of their lives...

I would have loved to be in Paris with these three ladies, enjoying a night of wine and conversation... all three of them are so likable, and they all have their own personal troubles, and you just want everything to work out for them.... I did find Cate the most relatable of the three, simply because that is the path I chose in life... I had three small children in my 30s, but now that they are all grown up what I wouldn’t do to spend the day with them when they were little... I guess we are all a little guilty of the grass is always greener... this book was Filled with a lot of fun, A lot of a motion, and a lot of heart!

Absolutely recommend to anyone who enjoys a good book with great characters that will make you laugh and realized that you aren’t the only one!

Didn't love this or hate it. The author has a great writing style especially with the delivery of the little nuggets of important information being dropped at pertinent points, which to be honest is what in the main kept me reading the book, but I loved the fact I felt like I was actually in Paris with the characters with the vivid descriptions of the locale involved.

The characters were however where I struggled. Because for three women all over the age of thirty, none of them behaved that way and I found myself liking each of them less and less as the book progressed.

On the strength of this story, I am not 100% certain I would read anything else by this author...

My thoughts: We start out reading about Kate and then Shannon and finally Laura. Kate meets Laura on the plane to see Shannon. Laura work for the same company as Shannon. We don't find out until later on that they all know each other. They all have problems of their own they are tying to deal with and confiding with each other and getting drunk. Also doing some impulsive things.
Kate does everything for her family and seems burnt out. She needs time to herself. Shannon is not a family person nor the marrying type. Her boyfriend has older daughters who he wants her to meet but she keeps putting it off. Laura has been with her boyfriend for 12 years and she wants marriage, kids and the white picket fence but whenever she talks to him about it he puts it off. I loved how these 3 women come together and how they fight and lean on each other to help each other and will things all come together for them at the end on what they should really do?

I received this from NetGalley and Bookouture for review.

I’m sure many of us are familiar with sleepless nights, when the brain just won’t shut down long enough for you to relax, when you maybe start to feel a little punchy and even the most stupid idea suddenly seems like the best one ever.

It is during such a sleepless night that Kate realises she’s lost her way. Married to Luke and a stay-at-home mum to two children, she seems to have forgotten who she truly is. Her dad always told her that when you lost something, you needed to go back to the place where you last had it. So to find herself again, Kate books a one way ticket to Paris to see her best friend, Shannon.

Shannon is having problems of her own though and Kate couldn’t have picked a worse weekend to show up unannounced. Because Shannon suddenly finds herself in a position she’s desperately been trying to avoid. On the Eurostar to Paris, Kate meets Laura and thus, the scene is set for a memorable weekend.

These three women find themselves at a crossroads in their lives. Feelings need to be discussed, secrets need to come out in the open and decisions must be made. One Way Ticket to Paris is a wonderfully entertaining story about love, friendship and how sometimes in the midst of the chaos life throws at us, all you need is some time to just breathe and be yourself again.

This isn’t exactly the type of genre I normally go for but I do enjoy Emma Robinson’s writing. Her characters always come across realistic and believable and I have no doubt some of the things Kate, Shannon and Laura deal with are entirely relatable to some readers. From men with commitment phobias, to dealing with pushy mums at your children’s schools yapping on about bake sales and the like, to not having a minute to yourself, which means a clean and quiet bathroom in a hotel suddenly feels like paradise on earth.

With a few chuckles along the way, likeable characters to sympathise with and root for and a healthy dose of romance, this feel-good story is sure to warm your hearts.

I absolutely adored this book. It tells the tale of three women. I found this book to be fantastically funny and  heart-breakingly sad at times. I would highly recommend this as a true feel-good rom-com.

Kate, happily married with two lovely children but she has lost herself. Her life is full of running after her husband and children which leaves no time for herself.

Shannon, happily single and childless whilst having a fling with her boss who is looking to make their relationship more permanent and wants her to meet his grown up daughter – Shannon likes how her life is going and not sure she wants to become a family.

Laura, living with her boyfriend who appears to be everything she wants and needs but is he really?  He doesn’t want to plan ahead and is happy with life as it is whilst Laura yearns to settle down and start a family.

As Kate decides to visit her friend Shannon in Paris, she doesn't share her plans with her husband or indeed her friend until she is already on her way! Kate meets Laura who is on her way to Paris for a business meeting.

Will a weekend in Paris give them all the answer they need to move forward.  What does the future hold for these three women?

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Emma Robinson for the opportunity to read and review this novel prior to publication.

Woman having a mid-life crisis of the same routine on repeat with a husband that doesn’t seem to understand she needs a break however she has not communicated this.

I listened to this audiobook last week and let me say this:

If you are going to have accents in a book why not do that particular person’s Thoughts in that accent as well?

There is 3 women’s situations mentioned in this and one of them is American. Every time she speaks out loud she is American however her thoughts are in an English accent which derails from this novel

These women never stop complaining and don’t seem to know how to open their big mouths! They have a lot of thoughts however they do not seem to understand you need to communicate.

The writing style is in a middle aged whiny voice for all of the characters.

At times I did find it funny and entertaining and it was realistic which I appreciate in a novel.

I don’t get why the main character complains about not working when she’s the lazy b*tch that chose to have children so she didn’t need to get a job, well she uses that as an excuse and then she wonders why she complains so much. STOP BEING SO LAZY AND GET OFF YOUR BUTT. If you aren’t going to be a good mum then just shh. No excuse to not have any sort of job.

By the end there are happy ever afters in all of their mid-life situations. I do not want to give much away as it can be predictable from then onwards.

In this book the author takes us on a trip to Paris, the city of love. We meet Kate, Laura and Shannon. They have one thing in common : what to do about the future?

Is it so bad to want to plan in advance? Is it so bad to want some time for yourself? Is it so bad to take a bit of time you spend to love life and spend it with the love of your life?

Big questions answers have to be found for. Will all three women find what they need in order to be happy and fulfilled?

One by one secrets are being revealed and it seems like the past is catching up. It can be good or it can be bad ...

The book is about love, love, love with a hint of mystery because who does not want to know what has been kept hidden?

This story made me laugh, but made me emotional as well. It was an excellent read that I thoroughly enjoyed. 5 stars.

Thank you, Emma Robinson, Bookouture and Netgalley.

Have you ever felt lost? Not lost because you ended up taking the wrong turning on your way back from a day out shopping, but lost because you can't help feeling as though part of you is missing? A sense of loss like no other - the undervalued, monotonous loss whilst enduring every day life of sewing up your husbands boxers because his purse strings are tighter than the waistband, or the endless meals you need to cook for your children because, after witnessing Tabitha in Year 3 have a melt down due to not realising that chicken nuggets from McDonald's were in fact REAL chicken, your child's pallet refuses to swallow the rather popular delicacy of....chicken.

It's no wonder that, after dealing with said issues on a day to day basis, that someone's patience ends up snapping. Why can't the husband don his inner Paul Hollywood for the school bake sale at 11pm at night instead of you? Why can't the husband make meal after meal that isn't eaten by the children because their tastebuds changed 5 minutes later? It really is no wonder that Kate felt the need to escape to a place she feels comfortable, happy, and most importantly, herself. Okay she may not have mentioned the trip to her husband, but that's neither here nor there. Kate just wanted to be happy again, you can't really fault her for that now can you?

Kate's journey of self discovery isn't the only one in this story, her best friend, Shannon, has unintentionally taken giant leaps into unfamiliar territory as she tries to come to terms with her current situation. I must say that, despite not warming to Shannon's icy personality to begin with, I ended up wanting to give her a great big hug. Kate too, if I'm honest. There is a third main character, Laura, and whilst I am sure that a lot of readers will relate to her thoughts on marriage, childbearing and what not, I personally couldn't gel with her as I found her to be a character who seemed intent on throwing her teddies out of her pram. Maybe that's just me, or maybe it was because in comparison to the other two ladies lives, Laura was going to 'win' whichever way she looked at it.

I thought that the overall premise of 'One Way Ticket to Paris' was very poignant and thought provoking, cementing the fact that if you aren't happy in yourself, you aren't happy in life and you can't be the best of yourself for your family. A simple yet incredibly important task, which I for one don't take the time to do 'me' when I should. We all should. Emma Robinson has done a brilliant job of making that important message shine through her storyline like a beacon, especially as it's so easy to lose yourself in life, yet it's so much harder to find yourself again.

I thoroughly enjoyed this heartwarming, thoughtful read where the humour perfectly balanced the emotions within. This is definitely a story written from the heart - I loved it.

This was a lovely read about three women, Kate, Shannon and Laura, all finding themselves lost in their lives, but for different reasons.

Kate who feels lost in her life at being a stay at home Mum. Shannon, Kate’s friend, is an American living and working in Paris with secrets she hasn’t shared with her gorgeous French boyfriend, who also happens to be her boss. Laura a sales woman who wants more from her long term boyfriend and hopes the work related weekend in Paris will give her time to make important decisions.

Even though my boy is now a teenager and just started working, I could really identify with Kate. I remember those times of feeling lost and alone and wanting to escape anywhere in the world. It’s a good job I couldn’t get on the Eurostar to Paris because I might have gone!

Once again Emma Robinson has written a wonderful story with characters and a plot so compelling that I couldn’t stop reading. I so enjoyed spending time with Kate, Shannon and Laura in Paris getting to know these lovely ladies and watching the personal journeys unfold.

I definitely recommend this if you enjoy contemporary women’s fiction and Toblerone chocolate!

This book is like unwrapping an eagerly awaited gift! I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. This is not a wispy chick lit tale but a story with layers and depth to be immersed in - a bit like cuddling up under a huge duvet - in fact that’s where I recommend reading it, from start to finish in one delicious sitting.

Kate, Shannon and Laura are all in Paris, all for different reasons and all leading different life’s. The thing they have in common is that changes are afoot for all of them.

Kate has ‘everything’ and yet still feels as if she’s failing. A loving husband (if a bit clueless) two kids, the ability to be a stay-at-home Mum and lists of things to accomplish scattered everywhere. And yet, the requests for ‘one more’ thing keep coming. Still dealing with the unexpected death of her father, and feeling as if everyone is watching and judging her mothering and coping abilities, she is on the edge and only needs to find one thing to make everything fall into place. Herself. Booking a low-cost ticket on the Eurostar, she’s packed her bag, dropped the kids at school, arranged for her friend to pick them up and texted her friend Shannon, an exPat American living in Paris to announce her impending arrival.

Shannon is preparing the company’s sales get-together for her boss and lover Robert, and struggling with making sure the salespeople are content despite Robert’s mercurial reputation. She’s been fobbing off his demands that she meet his daughters, he wants more while she’s convinced herself that marriage and family are too many steps too far. Feeling ill, she’s juggling her frustrations with Robert who wants to discuss their relationship NOW, and checking to be certain the sales meeting and activities are all set and ready, she’s happy to hear from Kate, but knows that juggling her friend catch-up time and her job will be a stretch. Especially with her new revelations. But, needs must, and she heads to the station to gather Kate and get her settled with a hotel room. Meanwhile, Kate has met Laura on the train. Laura, heading to the sales meeting, struggling with her job performance and the fight she had with her long-term (12 years) boyfriend James and his unwillingness to make a plan or commitment for their future. A flirtation with another salesman, Paolo, has her nervous and concerned what it all means, just another layer of confusion added to her plate, and the conversation with Kate about children and commitment haven’t made it easier.

Three women at three different places in their lives, where nothing is quite living up to expectations. Sure Kate wanted the kids, but the neverending commitments, expectations and challenges, and the nagging feeling that she doesn’t recognize herself when she looks in the mirror. Her inability to say no, and her husband’s lack of seeing what is “important’ about all of the commitments, she’s angry at his not understanding and feeling as if she’s failed as a Mum. Shannon is studiously avoiding Robert, not wishing to get into yet another conversation where the distance between them is pointed: he wants commitment and more, she’s feeling trapped and unworthy of that commitment. And, they work together which makes everything more complex. When you add in the reappearance of a long-buried secret, and her all too blunt reaction to Kate’s inability to say ‘no’, she’s pushed to make decisions that she never envisioned. And poor Laura, with a gaslighting boyfriend unwilling to make a plan, and Paolo’s clear vision of her worth and issues, and despite another salesperson’s attempts to destroy his reputation, she’s got to face her fears: go for what it is she truly wants, or allow James to (again) fob her off with vague maybes and ‘possible’. Robinson gives us the ability to understand and empathize (or remember when we were there) each of the issues, the confusions, contrasts between actual wants and what is expected, and the little justifications and moments of ‘settling’ that we all do, while waiting for everything to come clear (hopefully). From frustration to laughter to tears, the healing power of friendship and the help found with a willing ear, the power of honest searching and a change of pace and place can bring.

“Going to another country on a whim –without booking a return ticket –was the kind of thing the old Kate would have done. The single Kate. The reckless Kate. The fun Kate. The new Kate didn’t do things like that. The mother Kate. The sensible Kate. The bloody boring Kate.”

What a great read, I really enjoyed the escape to Paris! This is the story of three women and how their lives all converge with each other for a few days in Paris; and through supporting each other, they set themselves on a new course in life. Two of them are friends, another a work colleague and the chapters alternate through the events that have brought their individual lives to crossroads.

There is, of course, tears and upsets, but overall this is a real ‘feel good’ story where one woman, or aspects from all three, the reader is bound to find relatable. The writing is engaging where you wished that you could be sitting around the table with them at the cafe or hotel, taking part in their sharing and decision making. I found all three women to be likable and could relate to various aspects from each of their stories - these are situations that many could identify with - you are bound to recognise either a circumstance or trait that rings familiar. So congratulations to the author for providing ‘real’ people and relevant problems that the reader or readers friends may find relatable.

The satisfying aspect of this story is how the three women come together to support each other, provide advice and encouragement. When you are faced with circumstances in life that make you unhappy, what can you do about it? The answer is not ‘fly to Paris’ (although many of us would be satisfied with that) but it is about communication and staying true to self. A very poignant message to be found at the heart of this novel.

I recommend taking the time to read of Kate, Shannon and Laura’s time in Paris. Great characters and story to be had. You are sure to appreciate being part of their journey of self ‘re’ discovery.

“What was she going to say? That she felt… lost? Finding yourself was something that happened on a gap-year break in Asia at eighteen. It was more than a little careless to be forty-one, married with kids and a mortgage, and realise you’d lost yourself again.”

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley and for letting me take part in this tour. I have read two of Emma's books before and I really enjoy her style.

This book follows 3 women. Each chapter is told from a different POV. If you have read my reviews before you will know this is something I LOVE! I really enjoy seeing things from different perspectives and getting into each characters head.

First, we meet Kate. Kate is a stay at home mum of 2. Kate has had a pretty rough year and she is feeling a bit overwhelmed and a bit lost. I really liked Kate. She wants to please everyone and in doing so she has not thought about herself in a long time.

Kate's friend Shannon is our second character. Shannon lives in Paris and from Kate's perspective is still having the fun life she had before she was a mum. What Kate doesn't realise is Shannon has some secrets of her own. Shannon was an interesting character. I would have never guessed her secrets. I was quite shocked when it was revealed. It did however completely explain why she is the way she is. Shannon did make me laugh quite a lot too.

Our third character is Laura. Laura works in the same company as Shannon and is in Paris for a meeting. Laura has been with James for 12 years but she feels like life has stopped moving for her. Everyone else is getting married, having babies and she is living in a pokey flat with a job she hates. Laura was my favourite character. There was something about her that I instantly liked.

Emma has a way of making you fall in love with these characters and their crazy, impulsive actions. this book had a lot of laughs but there were also a few heartbreaking moments. This story was about finding yourself, putting what you want first and not always trying to please everyone else. I think that sometimes we all need to take a little time to do the things that make us happy.

Overwhelmed by the responsibilities of being the perfect mom, wife, and daughter, Kate's lost sight of the girl she used to be. The arrival of an ex-boyfriend in town doesn't make matters easier. So one morning, she drops her children off at school and buys a one-way trip to Paris to meet her best friend, Shannon, and reclaim memories of her lost freedom.

Shannon's always been a free spirit, never tied down to one man, one company or even one country for too long a time. So when Robert wants her to meet his family, she resists. OF course, the unexpected pregnancy only makes the situation more complicated.

Laura has been with James for eleven years, but each time she brings up their future together, he shuts her down. Is it time to see the writing on the wall?

I've read the author's The Undercover Mother earlier, but I loved this one more. It's more women's fiction than chicklit.

Kate is feeling very down, she had recently lost her father and feels that she is just an extension of her husband and kids... what happened to her own identity....... so she heads off to Paris where she meets up with Shannon and Laura. Shannon has her own secrets and not all is at it seems in her life and Laura has a commitment phobe boyfriend. Can the three of them put the world to rights and sort out their problems in a few days in Paris!

A lovely book... who hasn't wanted to take off like that......... and I liked all three of the main characters and found them believable. I will be looking out for more books by this author

What a charming read! The story follows the lives of three women, Kate, Shannon and Laura, as their lives intersect during a weekend in Paris. They all have connections either through work, friendship or a chance meeting, and they all have parallels from their earlier lives as teenagers. Each chapter follows each of the three women. In spite of the dramas, and upsets, it is such a feel good story, with each of the women completely relatable. I would absolutely recommend this, I found it so hard to put down.

I was drawn to this book, as I always am when a book is set in Paris, but I am so glad I got the opportunity to read it, thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

The blurb makes it sound like this is a book about Kate and her feelings of dissatisfaction with her life, but it is a book about Kate, Shannon and Laura - all of whom have lives that are going in unexpected directions.

These three women are connected to each other in a variety of ways, and the men in their lives find out new things about them which changes things for everyone.

This was a sweet story which I really enjoyed. Most women would really be able to relate to these ladies, and women who have children in particular will relate to Kate's experience.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

I absolutely loved this book!! One Way Ticket to Paris is about 3 women in all different stages of their personal life. Kate is married with 2 kids and runs away to Paris to be with her friend and find herself. Shannon is Kate’s friend who is single but in a relationship and Laura has been in a long term relationship with a commitment phobic boyfriend. The story takes place in Paris and each chapter is devoted to one of these three women. It is so much fun and I think that everyone can relate to one of the characters. It even has a little twist at the end that I didn’t see coming!! Do yourself a favor and get lost in this book!! Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC of this title.

I simply adored this book, the first few pages of the book you get a glimpse into Kate's life at home with her family, little boy trying to do a big boy wee making a mess, daughter sleeping in their bed like a starfish and husband asking for help to locate his keys. THIS. IS. MY. LIFE!

The author has very cleverly captured each character emotions in where they are in life and I totally related to this, I too am Kate and I am too Shannon who has let friendships slide however like really good friends that they are, time & distance doesn't matter.

This is just a wonderful feel good book and I thank the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a honest review.

REVIEW

Review for 'On Way Ticket To Paris' by Emma Robinson.

Wow!!! Where to even begin?? Yet another stunning page turner from the extremely talented and absolutely wonderful Emma Robinson.
I have to start by saying that Emma Robinson is a very talented author and I cannot wait to dig into more of her books. She is definitely on par with several of my favourite authors including Jodi Picoult, JoJo Moyes and Nicholas Sparks which is why she is also one of my favourite authors!!! Regardless of if you are looking for a romantic comedy, domestic drama or an emotional tear jerker Emma is the author to go to!! She is definitely a lady of many talents! Most authors stick to one genre but Emma can do multiple and extremely well too!!

The book itself is written so well that it reads so smoothly from chapter to chapter with brilliant descriptions and settings perfect for the scene. It really dragged me deep into the story and I became completely invested until I came out the other end with tears streaming down my face. The title and synopsis fitted the storyline perfectly.

Emma has such an amazing talent and is always able to weave domestic drama, humour and other topics, genres and subjects into an emotional rollercoaster ride of a story and she has covered several in this amazing book. I need to be very careful in writing this review as I really don't want to spoil anything for future readers so I will try my best to give as much detail in my review without going to in depth as to give too much away. The fact that Emma has done her research on so many topics absolutely shines through and this is one of the things that I love abut Emma is that she always does such a lot of research for her books and ensures there are no mistakes that could spoil the storyline for readers. I absolutely loved this book, no surprise there really as all Emma's books have all been amazing, and I just could not put it down!! I ended up devouring it in a few hours as every time I told myself I would finish that chapter and get on with something else I just had to read the next and then the next until before I knew it I had come to the last page!! It is one of those books that had me hooked onto my book from the first page to the last and I ended up walking around with my eyes glued to the pages!! It is ram packed with emotions and so much going on. This book has more of a romantic comedy vibe than some of the other books I have read by Emma and it is such an inspiring, heart warming story that is ram packed with love, friendship, romance, beautiful settings and finding yourself as well as so much more!! Emma transports the readers to Paris where Kate is determined to find herself and pull her life out of the monotonous drain it seems to have become. Kate meets with her friend Shannon who also has her own life problems. As a Mum myself I really found that I related to Kate and how easy it is to lose yourself as a person when others just see you as a Mum or partner. It really is an absolutely beautiful story of friendship, secrets and family!! It is filled with love, family, friendship, regrets, selflessness, heartbreak and much much more. It is extremely thought provoking and just goes to show that sometimes making some time for yourself is so, so important and can make such a difference to you, your health and your family. Its just a shame I don't live as close to the Eurostar as Kate does otherwise I think I would do exactly the same thing!! Emma manages to weave the multiple protagonist perspectives of both Kate and Shannon into a beautiful storyline where we can see how the two women, both in different circumstances in life, are feeling and what they are doing at the perfect times so you get a bigger picture of what is and was going on but no too much to give the story away too early. There is so much going on this book that I just could not put it down for one moment!! You will definitely not only need to clear your schedules when you start this as you will not be able to put it down but you need to make sure you have tissues at the ready!!! I cried, screamed, smiled, my heart broke, my heart warmed and soooo much more!! Such a rollercoaster ride of emotions!! I wont say anymore as I don't want to give too much a way. Needless to say it is a beautiful book and an absolute page turner!!! I WAS completely invested in this book and read it in one sitting as I do with all of Emma's books. It is a complete rollercoaster ride of emotions into a gorgeous storyline. This is yet another stunner by Emma that I would love to see made into a movie!!

Do not start this until you have cleared your schedules as you won't be able to put it down!!

The characters are all realistic and described so well I really felt that I got to know them all. I became completely invested in both Kate and Shannon but especially Kate as I could definitely relate to her!! Emma's writing skills made me feel that I was going through everything Katie and Shannon were going through while also seeing the beautiful sights and sounds of Paris come to life in front of my eyes! I really can't say anything else about how I feel about them as I think if I did say anything else I will spoil things but just trust me you need to read this book and you will know what I mean and feel!!! I loved that all the characters were a mix of personalities and I enjoyed watching the relationships and friendships between each grow and develop between them all. Regardless of whether I liked, loved or hated them they all worked together perfectly to make yet another exceptional read by the amazing Emma!!!!

Congratulations Emma on yet another stunning page turner!! This is why you are one of my favourite authors and here is to your next success 🥂!!!

Overall an absolute page turning, beautiful and addictive story of friendship, love and finding yourself!

I haven’t read anything previously by this author so I am coming to her writing fresh and, having read this book I am wondering why I haven’t discovered her before.

This story is really fresh and enticing from first page to last as we follow the lives of three women dealing with personal crises, as they all come together in Paris. Kate is a mum-of-two wondering where she lost herself along the way and how to find herself again. Laura is sick of waiting for her life to move on with boyfriend, James and Shannon wonders if she is ready for the next step in her life or if she is still running from the past.

Any woman reading this book will recognise some facet of herself or something she has been through in the lives of one of these women and the author does a really fantastic job of building real women with real lives who are relatable to all of us. They were all the kind of people we know or who are friends with and whose problems are very real and relevant.

I had particular sympathy with Kate who finds herself trying too hard to be the perfect mum, and judging her success in the eyes of the other mums who she deems to be doing a better job. I am sure any of us who have children will be familiar with the pressure we put on ourselves to be the very best mum our children deserve and the guilt we feel when we believe we are failing and the frustration that often the father of the children don’t feel the same pressure. The issues women have balancing motherhood and career and sense of self are very much at the forefront of society and I think that Emma does a really great job of reflecting the different pressures women are under in modern society in this book, but in a way that is not aggressive or preachy but warm and compelling.

I was hooked on this book from page one and once I had finished it I felt like I had spent a few hours with some really great friends pouring out their problems in to my sympathetic ear. Grab a glass of wine and settle down for a girl’s night in with this lovely book. I will definitely be looking for other titles by this author; this is just the type of female-focused fiction that I enjoy reading.

This book was...extremely predictable. I knew almost right away how it as going to end. Which is pretty typical in the genre but this one felt a little too predictable for me. Like I knew exactly how the book would read before I even started reading it.

It also felt rather...repetitive. We were reminded over and over again what the problems were, they just went over and over and over them in their minds and stressing to each other and...I just wanted to scream at all of them to shut up and get their shit together or to at least stop bitching and moaning about it all.

However, I did appreciate that this book captured three very different women facing problems that women face every day that really don't get that kind of attention they deserve. And neither problem was placed as silly or less than the others...it was just a nice look at how no one's life is perfect and just because someone has something you don't yet, doesn't mean they have it all figured out.

I just wish that it hadn't been repeated over and over and over again...I could have used more girlfriend bonding over shared laughs and shared stories without it dragging into their issues every single time. I appreciated the one bit where one character felt better just laughing with her friend because as someone with a long distance bestie, I get that feeling all too well. It would have added some lightness to what felt...like a depressing and stressful read at times.

It was a good book, good story, just didn't love it.

The story of three women who are all in Paris for different reasons.  Kate loves her husband and 2 children more than anything, but she’s starting to feel the pressure of being a wife and mother.  One night she books herself onto the Eurostar to Paris, leaving the next morning and without telling anyone heads off to visit her best friend Shannon who is currently also in Paris.  Single, Shannon is having a ‘fling’ with her boss, but when it all starts to get serious Shannon isn’t sure if this is what she really wants.  Finally we meet Laura, a printer saleswoman who is heading to Paris on business.  She is in a relationship and has been for 12 years, but while all her friends around her are settling down and getting married, Laura’s boyfriend is happy with how things are.  Will being in Paris give them all the answers that they are looking for?

I’ve read a few books already by this author and have enjoyed them all.  What I love about this author is that she can make me laugh and cry all in one go and then gives me food for thought long after the book has finished!  This book was just that and more!  I loved the way that all three women were in different stages of their relationships but I could relate to each and every one of them – I’ve been in all those places at some point in my life!  The three leading characters were all so likeable and their stories are all told in individual chapters, which really had me connecting with each of them.

It was the perfect easy to read story which leaves your own issues at the first page while it whisks you away to Paris, reminding you that sometimes friends are what you really need to be able to put your life back into order.  A beautiful feel-good book of friendship and love which had me chuckling to myself one minute then wiping away tears the next.  Would definitely recommend!

The main characters are three very relatable women: Laura is in a long term relationship that seems to be going nowhere and in a job which doesn't fulfil her; perfectionist Kate's roles as wife and mother have overwhelmed her, causing her to lose all sense of self-identity; and Shannon is a strong career woman in an unpredictable relationship who finds herself pregnant. I was cheering on these three women, desperately wanting them to make the choices I wanted for them.

I really liked the writing style. Phrases like "the coward formerly known as Robert" and "she had burnt the mushroom frigging frittata" and "your cardigan arrest!" (in their contexts, of course), had me laughing out loud.

I loved the support each of the women gave to the others, even while each was struggling with her own demons. And there were a few moments that were so unexpectedly poignant that I got distinctly misty eyed.

This was my first book by this author, and I'm looking forward to reading some more books by Emma Robinson!

A page turning story of three women meeting in Paris, all with big life changing decisions to make about their relationships with husbands and boyfriends. Emma Robinson is a lovely warm writer who creates really relatable situations. She gives the point of view of each woman in turn and shows us their dilemmas and the friendships between them. Kate and Shannon are friends from way back, Shannon and Laura are work colleagues, and Kate and Laura are meeting for the first time. Their problems are completely realistic. How should Kate deal with her frustrations at trying to be the perfect mum and feeling she's losing herself in the process? Should Laura stick with the boyfriend who won't commit? What does Shannon do about a situation she hadn't expected but which will change her future completely? And all this against the background of glamorous Paris. I was rooting for every one of the women and was held in delightful suspense all the way through.

Another delightful I-didn't-get-anything-else-done-yesterday read by Robinson.

She so masterfully created her characters I felt like I was hanging out drinking wine with Kate, Shannon, and Laura in Paris. Between the three women chatting you travel through all the agonies and joys of career/marriage/motherhood goals and aspirations. It was an insightful and encouraging read.

The fairy godmother scene brought tears to my eyes. I have had instances in my life where a woman I just met has shared the wisdom I needed to survive. There is a delightful camaraderie in womanhood that we need and Robinson captured that power well in the old and new relationships of her characters.

There are just some times when you need a Happily-Ever-After in your life, this satisfying read will give you three.

A warm tale of three women who are all feeling a little lost for different reasons. Kate, the downtrodden mum; Shannon who is in a relationship with her boss but is running away from something and Laura with a noncommittal long term boyfriend.

At times it felt a little silly and each of the women were rather self-absorbed and not really dealing with their issues - but at others it was lovely to see the impact of friendships and being courageous!

I enjoy this author’s writing and look forward to reading more. 3.5* as I couldn’t really gel with any of the characters until towards the end - despite being a harassed parent myself!!
