I absolutely adore reading - always have and always will. My friends growing up used to tease me when I would trail after them, trying to read and walk at the same time. If I have downtime, odds are you will find me reading or writing.

I am the mother of two wonderful sons who have inspired me to chase my dream of being an author. I want them to learn from me that you can live your dream as long as you are willing to work for it.

When I told my mom that my new year's resolution was to self-publish a book in 2013, she pretty much told me "About time!"

I want more ....

Rochelle Paige wrote one of my favorite shifter series and this has made me want even more from her (I’m not above begging). I adored Warren and Opal so much.

-no cheating
-no ow/om drama
-not very steamy - a bit of steam later in the book
-no violence of a sexual nature
-if he knew there was one person out there for him, he should have waited
-safe- neither with others after meeting
-ok epilogue that was a couple years out

So... I guess I am a little butt hurt. You know you have 1 person out there that is meant for you. But you don't know if you will find that person. So you don't wait. You still have your fun. Nothing about either of their pasts is mentioned, but neither are virgins. She didn't know that there was 1 person for her, but he did know. Otherwise I adore this author and I always enjoy her books. I love the magic in this one. Still a safe book.

The slowburn between Opal and Warren in this one was phenomenal. Yes, there was instalove & instalust, but Warren really waited until Opal was ready before he took the next step.

The conflict in this one was much more tame than its predecessors, but it was still enjoyable.

This was a much-needed fluffy addition to the series.

I loved this story, the whole idea of this world/genre fascinates me. The possibilities are endless. And Rochelle delivered. If you’ve read her shifter books this ties into that world. Familiar names will pop up but don’t worry you don’t have to have read them to read this.

Opal grew up in the foster system having been given up as a newborn. She had no clue where she came from only that her mother had left at a fire station and walked away. She was never adopted and I like to think there was a reason for that. It eventually led her to Warren and his coven. If she’d been adopted she may never have found her way to him. All she knows is that she’s different from other people. Her affinity to fire has always made her wonder.

Warren is a Warlock and he has taken over the coven his mother was in charge of. It’s rare but not unheard of. His mother now serves on the council and lives to torment him, bombarding him with her hopes of grandchildren. But without that special person by his side he can’t see that happening anytime soon. With this world all people are destined for one person. A soulmate exists out there for each of them. And if they don’t find them in this lifetime it may happen in the next.

When her car, that is on the verge of dying leads Opal to Ashburn it also leads her to her destiny and Warren.

When these two meet you can expect heat and a feeling of completion. Like the universe has aligned and each are where they are meant to be.

A must read, steam factor is off the charts. The story is engaging and makes you want to delve further into this world. Rochelle makes you want more.

The Empress by Rochelle Paige is a Cards of Love tarot-based standalone story about Warren Ainsley, an unmatched air warlock and head of the Ashburn coven and Opal Smith, an untrained fire witch who is not aware of her powers and that magic truly exists in this world. Warren is yearning to find his consort since the moment he took over his mother's position as the high priest. But since Opal doesn't have the slightest clue what a fated consort is nor his significance for a witch/warlock's happiness and fulfilment Warren will have to convince her that the instant sizzling chemistry and strong pull between them is real and that they were simply made for each other.

I absolutely adored the main protagonists of this story. Warren was a sweet and understanding guy who also had strong Alpha tendencies with his protectivennes and jealousy when it came to his sweetheart. What I truly liked about him was that he gave Opal enough space and time to get used to her magical power and his role in her life. She was a strong and resilient woman who didn't have it easy in life because she always had to rely on herself only but with Warren and his coven she has finally found a family and a new home.

Rowenna, Warren's mother and former high priestess, was such an endearing secondary character. I loved how she meddled in her son's life and was asking him to give her grandchildren. She was very welcoming and kind towards Opal and helped her to develop her magical skills.

If you enjoy short reads with an engaging plot and intriguing characters and paranormal is your cup of tea than the Empress is a must read for you! I've thoroughly enjoyed it and sincerely hope that Rochelle will give us more stories about the Ashburn coven and their befriended shifter clans. I will definitely one-click the hell out of them.

Witches

Great to see a witch romance! The witches always fascinate me. I did have a little trouble staying engaged in this book, I don’t know why. I love this authors other stories.

2.5-3 stars. Quickie review: I thought the premise of this story was interesting, but the actual story felt poorly written and too rushed, with scenes skipped and plot holes. I never felt any of the emotions or love. It was disappointing because it was a cute idea, but had poor execution, IMO.

The Empress was such a sweet, sexy and enjoyable read! I've devoured it in one go and couldn't put it down for the life of me. I've always loved the world of witches and warlocks. Which young girl hasn't dreamed of having magical powers? So when the chance occurred for me to read The Empress, I was all in. Especially because it was written by Rochelle Paige whose books I've read and loved before. She is a very talented and versatile author!

Warren Ainsley is serving as the head of his coven as high priest. He's young, powerful but unfortunately unmated. Warren knows that having his fated consort by his side would help preserve the harmony among his witches and finally set his mother at ease who wants nothing more than having grandchildren. All he needs is to finally find her.

When Opal Smith suddenly shows up at the local diner, inevitable things are set in motion. Now Warren needs to convince the shy beauty that they are meant for each other. Too bad Opal has no idea magic exists and doesn't even know what a consort is. Warren feels that convincing her won't be easy, but he's determined to win her over and never let her go.

Warren and Opal stole my heart. I loved them both so much! The instant connection they felt was so special and the chemistry between them nothing short of true magic.

Please do yourself a favor and read this amazing book! It will put a huge smile on your face and make you wish for more! Great job dear Rochelle. I can't wait to read more of such books from you in the future. 5 stars!

Warren, a warlock with an affinity for air, was given the title of high priest after his mom stepped down. While it's rare for a warlock to be chosen, the position usually going to a witch, it's even more so as he's unmatched. He yearns every day for his consort, but knows there's always the possibility their paths will never cross.

Opal knows nothing of her past, aside from the fact she was abandoned at a fire station and never adopted, having spent her childhood bouncing between foster homes. She's always had a connection to fire, a fact that worried some potential families, but it served her well recently, after her place was broken into.

As she travels away from the life she'd made for herself, her car has enough and stops in Ashburn. While at the diner, everything she thought she knew is turned upside down when a sexy man walks in, both immediately feeling the connection, figuratively and literally. But Opal knows nothing of Warren's world, or that she's his consort.

While these two get to know each other, and Opal learns of her powers, Warren must work to prove to Opal what he feels for her is real and that she can trust in their destiny.

Will Opal be able to accept the future Warren wants with her? Will learning of her powers help her find her biological family? Does she want to? Is a HEA possible for these two?

Cards of Love: The Empress
Being an unmatched warlock serving as the head of a coven wasn't easy. The desire for a feminine touch to help preserve harmony among his witches made Warren Ainsley long for his fated consort more than usual.

Then she finally showed up in the local diner. Only Opal Smith had no idea magic existed and didn't know what a consort was.

Can Warren convince Opal that the magic between them is real?

Warren and Opal's story is one of my FAVORITES!!! He is my perfect kind of book boyfriend - sweet but Alpha. He's possessive of Opal but also makes sure she knows that he'll support what SHE wants, not try to stop her or conform her to what HE wants, because all he wants is her to be happy. Also, he reminds me a little bit of one of my other favorite characters created by this author, Weston from I'm Yours, Baby. *grin*

There are some GREAT scenes in this story that I just adored. I enjoyed Opal's innocence & learning about the magical world, and loved her personality!! I also really loved the sense of family through this whole story!! : )

Loved this story!

Opal has been alone all her life and she doesn't trust easily. When she gets spooked by a break in at her apartment and it sends her on the run. When her car breaks down in a small town she realizes she might have to stay a while and she on that first day she ends up running into Warren. Warren is the High Priest of a coven of witches and he is in search of his consort. When he sees Opal he knows she is that special one, his consort. He must now get her to trust him and also open her eyes to the world of magic that she never knew existed. This is a wonderful story and I highly recommend it!

This was a cute idea, but just never really came together for me. 2+ Better than OK, but not one I really liked.

Warren (H) is a warlock, the head of a powerful coven of witches and a leader in their small town. Opal (h) stumbles into his town on the run from some inexplicable things, but only finds more when she reaches Ashburn. Beginning with the symbol that magically appears on her wrist when she sees the man who claims that they are fated for each other. Except, magic's not real, right?

This occurs in the same world as Rochelle Paige's other supernatural series (the shifter-witch pairing that was so talked about was Camden and Selene in Bear the Burden). While you might enjoy having read those books first, and get a better understanding of this world, there's no need to have read them to understand what's going on here.

Personally, the characters and story just feel incomplete. Undeveloped, maybe? No real challenge - Opal just rolled with everything easily, and all Warren had to do was be patient and she was totally ready to accept being his for life. Literally, he had to do nothing else! Even the supposed break-in was rather a non-issue.

And then there was her magic... I hate this sort of "oh, I've never known about any magic ever but I'm apparently more powerful than anyone else out there" type of story. Just, almost no adjustment time before she's doing spells in weeks that other witches had to study for months/years to master. I can get behind characters that might be powerful after being lost/abandoned/unaware of magic, but it's just irritating when there's no learning curve - every magical foundling seems to be a supernatural prodigy. "Hey, I can do magic, and not only that, I'm the most amazing ever." I guess it's the magical equivalent of insta-love? Same sort of objections - too much, too perfectly, too fast. And it's even worse in a short story format.

Aside from her magic, I wasn't happy with Opal's character portrayal/development. She's in tears and spilling her whole life story to him at their first meeting, but then he's talking about how her walls are so high, how tough and guarded she is? If her walls were actually that high, then she wouldn't be in tears over an event that happened when she was an infant, over 20 years ago, when she's talking about it with a stranger. It's called acceptance - people learn to control their reactions, not feel like it's tear-worthy levels of raw emotion whenever they talk about it. Especially if they have a history like hers and don't open up to many others. Her reaction wasn't that of a brittle and skittish person - damaged, yes, but not the sort of reaction one would expect based on how Warren and his mom describe her.

While I'm on Opal... why did she leave after having her house broken into? She was running away based on weird feelings and instinct (and spontaneous combustion). But, did she have to actually go into hiding and run away? She didn't have a history of violence in her past, no reason to feel that there was anything personal or malevolent in what she was feeling was happening, right? Or did I miss something to warrant her cut-and-running from everything that she knew and had worked for?

Looking at other reviews, a lot of people seem to not like that even though he knew he had a consort, someone out there just for him, he still had a sexual/romantic past. But that's the thing - people didn't always find their consorts! Sometimes luck/fate didn't ever have them cross paths. No reason to put your personal life on hold on the chance that one day you might meet the perfect person.

Handful of typos. Some continuity issues - mostly mixing up of what element people control (the consort of an air warlock has a water mark on her wrist - that sort of thing). Mostly well edited, though.

Alternating 1st person POV. No cheating, no OW/OM drama, no love triangles. Rather empty and undeveloped - just finished with a sort of "was that it?" type of feeling. A few things that irked me, especially with Opal and her powers. Still, readable and decent characters in a fast escapism read. An alright addition to Paige's Fated Mates world. HEA with epilogue. No cliffhangers, but some hints about Damien's story coming up.

Would I read more by this author/in this series? Yes. I've enjoyed others in both her contemporary and SPN romance series. While not a go-to favorite, I'd still pick up another of hers to read, especially if it's another free find on Kindle! Besides, there's a dragon set to find his mate soon!

Dark magic

Warren Ainsley (mmc, warlock)
Opal Smith (mfc, orphan, fire witch)
Rowenna Ainsley (mmc mother, air priestess)

Warren was an anomaly. He was the head of a coven, unmatched (unmated), and a male (warlock). Usually, a high priestess would lead the covens, not a high priest. But it was unheard of for a single priest to lead. The few times men lead covens, it was with their consort (fated mate) by their side. His mother had been the high priestess before she moved up to the Council of Four (Five in other books). Opal was left at a fire station as a baby, never knowing that she was a fire witch. When she finds out someone is after her, she leaves town and goes on the run. She finds herself in Warren's town with a broken-down car. When she meets Warren, she doesn't know anything about magic, and the consort mark that appears freaks her out. Can he gain her trust in time to save her from what she's running from?

Even though I read this book after reading #10, I was still a bit surprised at how it all came together.

Cards of Love
by Rochelle Paige

If I hadn't looked her up, I would suspect this author might be a 15 year old boy. The writing is just that sophomoric.

I gave the book 2 stars. 1 star because, good or bad, writing is hard work, so she deserves a star for completing and publishing. The second star is because the story idea was intriguing. But from there it all goes down hill in a flash of stilted dialogue and crude (as opposed to hot and sexy) language. I only read 70%, but rolled my eyes enough in that time to bring back the bout of benign proximal positional vertigo I suffered earlier this summer.

I've read a couple or more of these Cards of Love novellas and usually they're okay and just smut stories, but with this one I didn't even get to the smut before I gave up. The two MCs were okay but I really didn't like how involved the hero's mom was in a story that was so short. There was also so much that didn't make sense to me, like what does the heroine having a job and her accepting the consort thing have to do with each other? Or why did it take more than a week for a diner to get in touch with her about her application when they were in need of a waitress? This story just lost me.

Could have done with a bit more

This was a very quick read. It was very difficult to connect with both characters because there was a lot left out. Opal had a hard childhood and Warren seemed a bit too laid back for how possessive he claimed to be. I'd for sure read other books in this series because I've never read a fated mates stories with witches before.

I wish I could say that I enjoyed this story but I didn't. There was no chemistry between the main characters Warren and Opal. The story moved at a fat pace but regardless of that I found it boring. There were a few other things that bothered me about this story but this story just wasn't for me.

Wow

My only complaint is it's not a full series yet to dive in! Great story and I'm looking forward to the next! For a woman who never had a family of her own or been able to trust deeply before her story changes quickly all because the fan in her car started acting up.

Too rushed to connect with any of the characters. The climax and resolution were basically nonexistent because once the main conflict was discovered, 2 pages later, it was debunked and resolved. I didn't love this. 1.75 stars.
