My name is Remi and up until about a year ago, I was your typical, popular high school student. But that changed the day I died and came back to life.

Yeah, you heard me right. I’m currently undead.

Honestly, I’m not really sure what I am. All I know is I have super strength, am crazy fast, and am basically immortal.

There is one tiny downfall. I crave souls. Luckily, I have a sliver of my soul left and feel a small bit of guilt over the idea of eating a good soul.

Fortunately, my town is well stocked with bad guys, and I spend my nights tracking them down and feeding off them. But during the day, I’m Remi, the high school extraordinaire. Well, extraordinaire might be a stretch.

But anyway, I had a pretty good system going until the day I crossed paths with a group of people that have powers like me. They’re not the friendliest group and are threatening to take away my food source. Not to mention, Revenna and Thorn, the school outcasts, may have discovered what I am.

So yeah, that’s my life, one undead, complicated problem at a time

The My Cursed Superhero Life series follows Remi as she navigates through high school while trying to deal with her powers, soul cravings, and paranormal drama.

Remi's life has been a typical teenager with her popular friend's life has been good. However, on her 18th birthday, everything is about to change and it's not just that she's turned into an adult. When things go horribly wrong at a party she learns that there is more to her than just a teenage girl. She's been cursed and to save her she's going to need to learn to use her reaper abilities.

I've had this one on my wishlist for ages and decided to check out Cursed. Cursed is a short and sweet fast paced action loaded story that captures the heart as well as the imagination. I really liked Remi she's sweet and handles being tossed into the supernatural world well. I found the concept interesting the idea that she was cursed and wakes up a superhero. I think if you have to be cursed the next best thing is being a paranormal superhero. I enjoyed Cursed it's not my first book by the author as I have read other books by her. I can't wait to finish off the series and see how it all plays out.

Even amongst her family, Isabella doesn’t feel like she fits in. While everyone is prancing around, looking perfect Isa would rather spend time in her room, enjoying a manga or working on her latest piece of art. When her parents decide to send her off to stay with her grandma for the summer, Isa doesn’t mind. Maybe being someplace other than here will make her feel better about herself. While she travels from one place to another, her cousins and grandma allow more of Isa’s personality to show. And as that occurs, Isa begins to like herself more.

When she returns home, she’s a changed woman and her neighbor Kai Meyes definitely notices. Having undergone a recent change himself, Kai is intrigued by the differences he sees in Isa and yet, deep down he knows she is the same girl he fell in love with.

The more I read, the more I saw the similarities in Kai and Isa. They’re pretty much mirror images of one another. Neither of them fit into their own families well. They certainly don’t fit into the cliques at school and they like to use humor or sarcasm to keep others at bay.

This book is all about self-discovery, of finding who you truly are and overcoming a past that threatens to drown you. Isa learns something about her family that shocks her and while it hurts, it also sheds more light on their actions and why they treat her the way they do. I liked reading about her journey. You can definitely see how far she’s come from how she is in the first chapter and who she becomes by the last.

First off I have to warn readers perhaps like myself who were unaware when they started reading Cursed that it is in fact a short novella and when I say short it took me around fifteen/twenty minutes max to read. I hate rating these kind of books because there's not enough content to go on. Cursed has a promising start but I believe each book in the series is going to focus on introducing new characters which means it doesn't leave a lot of time to bond with the characters or develop them.

Remi didn't really win me over in Cursed. She was rich, popular and had everyone wrapped around her finger but I just didn't find her interesting or relatable. Cameron has very little page time but he plays the part of the mysterious hot bad boy. So far nothing really stands out but it's early days and I will be reading the second book.

Read over 1 sitting Grim was the new series I decided to start by
Jessica. Having enjoyed quite a few of her books now I really thought this was be a good one too. But I felt it fell a bit short if I’m honest.

Remi was a nice enough character. I liked the introduction to her and wanted to know more of her story. I think with how short this book is (I think I read it in about 90 minutes?) I was left feeling like I’d just touched the surface. Which in many books is great, but with the mystery element added too which again I felt I knew nothing about or had minimal information, has made me feel I don’t know whether I’m invested enough to read the next book. I think maybe saying I needed more of a taste than just a small crumb.

Even though Remi’s story sounds cool I also wondered if she was strong enough of a character to carry the book. Yes we have the ex best friend in this book but she was a mere passing thought and the 2 cliche outcasts (we only saw those at the end). I hope you can see what I’m getting at.

I’m sure at some point I’ll pick up the next book but for now Grim is just a 3 star book for me and won’t be one of those than stands out in my mind in the future unfortunately.

This story was a good beginning to the series, but I was still a little disappointed. First off, I need to note that there are a ton of spelling and grammatical errors. Usually, in my reviews, I don't mention this unless it's really bad, and it was in this book. But really, my disappointment mostly stems from the fact that I didn't really like Remi. Her friends sucked, and they were all annoying and selfish. Even if she feels bad about some of the things she does, or is starting to question stuff, she doesn't really take responsibility for anything and when she does use her powers, it's in really childish or lackluster ways. But, I do have high hopes for her in the future.

There were a lot of good things though. The world is fasnicating. I want to know more about the paranormals, the upcoming war, and the Leader. I'm extremely fascinated by the Grim Reaper and I can't wait to learn more about him. I'm also excited to learn more about the other characters, and I hope that even if they have "perfect" lives too, I like them more than Remi.

No sé si ponerle 3,5 o 4 ⭐ ...

I was left with a lot of questions – a lot even if this was a novella. How does a formerly normal high schooler even find human traffickers (as she makes it sound like she manages that without use of her powers)? How did she assume that there weren’t other supernatural creatures when she was turned into one by an unknown party? Is she from a DC/Marvel-eqsue universe where superheroes are common and she just forgot to mention it or am I just supposed to just accept that supernaturals would just naturally sort their secret schools into villains and heroes?

A very good read!

I really enjoyed this book! It seems like mediocre praise, but I really mean it. I've been a fan of Jessica Sorensen for a while, my favorite being the Hunger series. My only complaint is that there's not more of a closure in the ending. I realise that she's planning more books in the series, but it just seemed that there was so much left unsolved.

I mean its meh/fine.

With the title that is called "Cursed" ur expecting it to be something! Not having a novella that doesn't explain much and seeing it mixing for me like super heroes organization vibe esc and paranormal that doesn't even pull u.
