Fear Not, Dream Big, & Execute, by Jeff Meyer, is a self-help book designed to help the reader discover and accomplish their goals. He has thoughtfully organized the book into a series of lessons that you can read in the order of your choosing, as they interest you. Specifically, the first half of the book is intended to help you identify your dreams and the second half is to help you realize them. Each lesson in this book relies on Christian teachings and ideology to help give direction to the reader.
It was unclear to me when I began reading this book that it was meant for a Christian audience, and perhaps even for Christian leaders more specifically. As a non-religious person myself, it was difficult for me to find applications for the lessons being taught. For instance, some of the chapters focus exclusively on how to glorify God or how to help others follow Jesus. These, of course, are not goals of mine and therefore whole lessons were lost on me. A good example is the chapter titled ‘Get into Rhythm with Your Priorities, Starting with Jesus.’ This chapter describes getting into the flow of every day by including activities like listening to God, memorizing scripture, and prayer walking. Occasionally there were chapters that only referenced passages from the Bible or the author's experiences as a pastor as examples of a more broad idea and these I found useful. A few lessons that I was able to glean from this book included tools related to leadership, brainstorming, and vulnerability. While it was clear that the leadership tools were meant for Christian leaders, there were still gems surrounding ideas like supportive listening and collaboration. I enjoyed the second half of the book significantly more than the first, as the lessons offered were about the execution of goals and I found they had a much broader application.
This book would have done well to include Christianity in its description or title, to attract the appropriate audience. As it stands, the book portends to be about discovering your dream, overcoming obstacles in your path, and useful strategies for accomplishing your dreams. It does do all of these things - but, for a very specific population of people with a specific mindset and goal. For the rest of us, it is disappointing to discover that this book has so little to offer us (unless, of course, we are looking to convert). I should say, too, that I have read quite a few self-discovery books by Christian authors, who make their beliefs known through references within the book but keep their content accessible to all. This book does not do that. So, while I'm sure this book is excellent for the people within that ilk, it leaves much to be desired for me.
A well put together book to help those who feel "stuck" by Jeff Meyer, a pastor and personal development trainer. I've had the opportunity to Visit with Jeff a few times on the phone and by e-mail, and his Christ driven desire to help people find the direction their compass is pointing is evident in those conversations and in this book. These lessons for reflection are written from a Christian perspective, which is very comporting to me and very helpful. Take your time in going through these lessons, and really do reflect on the questions that are asked. The process is helpful, uplifting and will help you find the direction God wants you to go....if you get out of the way.
This review says Kindle edition..... I read and reviewed the paperback version, but for some reason can't change the version here on Goodreads. I think the paper version is better...you can write notes in it. https://www.amazon.com/Fear-Not-Dream...
An accessible, inspired toolkit for those who feel stuck, or don't know where to start, in the pursuit of their dream. I especially like how you can read the chapters in whatever order fits your situation, and that the suggestions in each are achievable - you can practice many of them while you read; my favorite is "Marinate, Memorize, Meditate."
The description of the book is soo deceiving! It is really a preacher preaching about God and the bible. Faith is not a business strategy. I was very disappointed. I could not finish the book. On the plus side, it is well written and easy to read.
I loved this book. Perfect time to read it. The lessons are practical and life changing of you take the time to do them. Definately not a book to read quickly and that's good. You learn the lesson of slowing down then. I will be recommending it.
Fear Not, Dream Big, & Execute is one powerful nonfiction by Jeff Meyer. In this book, Jeff explains that we must analyze our dreams in life. We may realize that we’ve been stalking a dream that someone else has had for us rather than ours. Having sapped time, this may perceive as a total nightmare, but this should not stop us from dreaming. For as long as there’s a future, you can always start over. Jeff wants us to understand that the only thing that makes a dream inconceivable is the fear of failure. Subduing fear of failure will help liberate you from self-doubt and insecurity.
Jeff divides this book into two. The first part talks about discovering your dream. He talks about the ways we can find what is for us. He also addresses topics like love, patience, friendship, writing, and choosing your niche. Likewise, he calls this part: dream sparks. The second part is about methods we can use to make our found dream a reality. While talking about this, he addressed matters of sound sleep, adding value to ourselves, and eliminating worry. He calls this section: realization strategies. These two sections serve their objective without drifting into any other undue things. They effortlessly relate, so it is easy to draw a clear connection between them.
The language used is straightforward. Jeff’s points are clear and without confusion. He included practical tips in each chapter to better buttress his points. He also includes biblical excerpts to assist us in understanding God’s purpose for us. Written from a Christian perspective, everyone will find its subjects beneficial. I have personalized some points and intend to apply them in the future. When Jeff talks about the talking rock, he emphasizes how proximity and unhurried time yield great friendships. While reading, I could not help but agree with his standpoints.
Jeff urges us to pursue our dreams. Trying to fit into someone else's dream robs the world of our unique tribute. Furthermore, this book is the first aid kit we need to handle our emotional wounds. It urges us to stop drowning in fallacies and start our path with a clear intuition. The book is also a compulsion to seek balance in life.
I had a good reading experience. The editing was flawless. I found no errors and can say this book was exceptionally well-edited. There was nothing to dislike. It deserves a 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend this book to people who want to actualize their purpose on earth. Anyone willing to allow God to direct their path will find this book helpful.
A biblically oriented leadership treatise. Truly a man of god who is sharing age old biblical wisdom with a modern flavor on how to lead others. Well written! I highly recommend it!
