What a wonderful and intriguing story this is turning out to be as Tarnish Rose and Sebastian continue on their Quest to find the missing crystal remnants. Meanwhile, various inhabitants of Rottenwood have their own fate and destiny to contend with and treachery will not be condoned. This is the second book in the series and continues to be an enthralling read. It is well-written and has such an allure to it that it just sweeps the reader along on a magical journey. This is certainly a book I would have no hestitation in recommending.
A rainbow appears in Rottenwood, the first of its kind in centuries. The Dark Lord Creighton is losing power; is it the sudden appearance of a rainbow that has sapped him of his strength, or is it something else. The town will be punished; treachery cannot be allowed in Rottenwood and with their freedom gone, the town would learn what hardship really meant. Tarnish Rose reflects on everything that has led her to this point: travelling through Imagination; meeting Markus and accepting her mission and Temptress holding George as her prisoner. Sebastian has faith in Tarnish Rose and knows she is the leader they have been looking for; she just has to believe in herself. After a brief stop in Haven, the two continue into a bleak world Tarnish Rose doesn’t recognize. As they make their way across the Treacherous Path they meet Ella, but Sebastian doesn’t trust her and with good reason. Nevertheless, Tarnish Rose knows there is something special about Ella, as if somehow they were meant to meet. The crystal Tarnish Rose has is so much more; it is also a memory stone. Now she knows what she has to do and where she has to go; however, it would be anything but easy and Tarnish Rose is frightened by what she had seen. In her fortress, Temptress senses Margret, the death assassin, charging across her own lands. Creighton has grown bold; does Tarnish Rose really scare him so much. But what does Tarnish Rose have to promise the enemy just to buy her and her friends more time? A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
The young girl, known as Tarnish Rose, and her protector Sebastian, continue there treacherous journey across a war ravaged world, where all manner of evil lurks to destroy them. Even though their quest is to save humanity from the Dark Lord and the Temptress, it seems some humans did not get the message and they are doing their utmost to prevent the quest to succeed. A dramatic and sometimes dark tale, it is still well worth the read.
Tarnish Rose continues with her mission to save the world, with Sebastian by her side. They meet Ella and she may be much more than she seems, but can they really trust her? With many ups and down this book kept me reading right till the end. I didn't see the ending coming, can can't wait to read the next book to find out what happens next.
While I still love the concept this one had a hard time holding my attention. I'm not 100% taken with Sebastian. His father is creepy in his want for the two to get together. Tarnish and Sebastian visit many places in this one but never stay long so I wasn't invested too much in the characters they met.
Sebastian and Tarnish Rose set out on a quest to save the world. It's war torn and overcome by evil. Lots of fast-paced action, danger and suspense follows them. Well written with interesting characters and an engaging storyline.
Ms Cooper has written a fantastic transitional second book in this trilogy. I read it twice. This is a young adult series that is also a great read for everyone. This part of the tale takes Abby on a complete transformation to Tarnish as she travels the Unforgiving Lands. She meets Sebastian’s friends in a fortified town that survives as an oasis in these lands. While there, the town is attacked by scavengers and Tarnish, using one of the books she has acquired, helps to defend it. Through all of this she is continually tested as to who is her friend or who is her foe. Her only constant in her life is Sebastian. Tarnish cannot figure out whether to trust Ella, her sometimes guide. She is full of surprises and seems to have special powers herself. There is also the Temptress, the first curator, who has her own set of plans for Tarnish. This book adds its own set of storylines and keeps me impatiently waiting for the next book.
