Batman: The Dark Prince Charming #1-2

Batman: Můj temný princ

Rate this book
Mariniho nespoutaná kresba se nedá přehlédnout. Výrazné barvy, obrovské postavy a nádherná malba. A tohle všechno teď věnoval Batmanovi a stvořil komiks Můj temný princ.

Batmanem a Jokerem.

Great story and artwork, more of an adult Batman story. Which I think is great and I this there were more like this.

The only thing I did not really love about this was I think in the story Batman was written a bit too sloppy. This could be explained because he is angry, so he makes mistakes. I also do not like how obvious they make the similarities better Bruce and Batman.

This is a great Batman story with much more adult theme and artwork. All this fits the story perfectly. I would give this 4.5 if the characters were a bit close to their cores. This would have been perfect. Though this an international take on Batman so even thst I can understend. It's definitely worth a read.

Batman puts on a blonde wig and minces across Gotham to court the Joker, who’s wearing his prettiest dress, for a romantic tryst in the moonlight in the greatest Batman story ever written, The Dark Prince Charming – finally, these two are gonna resolve their decades-long sexual tension!

Ahhhh just kidding! This lousy comic’s really about Bruce Wayne having a secret kid that gets kidnapped by the Joker for a diamond or some silly thing. The Joker does drag it up though!

Enrico Marini’s painted art is genuinely fantastic. He’s got an amazingly cinematic vision and his Batman and the myriad action scenes look brilliant. Except Marini is just another in a long line of artists who can’t write worth a damn.

The plot is plain stupid. Bruce Wayne having a secret daughter? Please. Who thinks for a second this garbage will stick or that it’s even remotely true? Joker is terrible from his generic design to his dumb motivation of stealing an expensive diamond for Harley. His repeatedly gunning down his goons didn’t seem scary or menacing, it just made me wonder why anyone would work for this idiot. Marini’s Harley is a one-dimensional bimbo only interested in sex.

I’d be happy to see another Batman comic drawn by Enrico Marini, provided he had no hand in writing it! The Dark Prince Charming is an instantly forgettable, bland and predictable read.

Enrico Marini brings his rich European painted art to Batman. Marini has a cinematic eye that produces fantastic action scenes. Clearly this is out of continuity, allowing Marini to put his spin on Batman and the Joker. The Joker kidnaps a little girl who may be Bruce Wayne's daughter. The Joker is hyper-violent, menacing and easily offended. Visually he looks fantastic. The women in the book are purely eye-candy. There's numerous shots of Harley bent over showing her underwear while all the waitresses wear hot pants. The book does have its issues, but damn the oversized art is gorgeous.

Kidnapping, burglary, cat and mouse. The plot isn’t groundbreaking, but humor, violence, and humanity make this yet another solid Batman tale. I think the artwork, the highlight of the book, is gorgeous. And it’s cool to see Joker & Harley as a love ‘em but hate ‘em couple.

This was different. There are things about this comic that I liked and some things I did not care for. Written and illustrated by Enrico Marini it's a Batman-Joker story.

The premise, is one of the things that were rather weak, revolves around the tenuous idea that some junkie bar-tender slut from a hole in the wall is claiming to have Bruce Wayne's daughter. For some reason, Bruce decides to humor her. The Joker steals the kid and holds her for ransom from Bruce. That's about it. The set up? Um rather weak. A multi-billionaire is seriously taking the time to listen to this woman? Alfred let her on the grounds? Yeah? No. Then there is the brat. What an annoying child. The scene where the brat knows about Lima Syndrome (yeah? Again. Doubt it.) but Harley, who is a former Psychiatrist, did not? Yeah? Not buying it. That or Dr. Quinn was a complete fucking imbecile.

So what did I like? The art was actually quite good and works well for the story. It's quite a feat to ink and write a story. The parts of the story that revolve around Joker and Harley are actually quite good. This Joker is funny but still quite dangerous. In fact, for the most part, the interactions are good..it's just I didn't care about the basic premise and the quality of the other parts of the story can not cover for this flaw.

This is not to say this is bad. It is not. It is deserving of the three stars for art and the Joker/Harley interactions. I loved the short Joker gang member, he was truly awesome! A good Batman story. Nothing great but not bad.

An action packed journey driven by emotion, this is a stellar entry into the Batman mythos. The story isn't unique, in fact, it's another Joker story *sigh*, but it's an entertaining one thanks to the great characterisations and the beautiful artwork. Free from the restraints of continuity, Marini has crafted a Dark Knight story that can hold its head high.

This one was great, I'm glad I finally got around to reading it!

No I didn't read it in italiano but the effort would have been well worth it!

Marini does an admirable job with art and dialogue to render a gorgeous watercolour Gotham featuring a Bruce Wayne/Batman and Joker that teeter on the cartoonish but nonetheless stay on the "gritty crime drama" side of the line, if only just barely.

Marini's version of "Mistah J" does an admirable job striking a balance between Heath Ledger's terrifying methodical nihilist and Mark Hammill's outlandish Clown Prince of Crime.

Highly recommended for Bat-fans.

You can find my review on my blog by clicking here.

If there’s one thing that we rarely take the time to appreciate, it’s the legacy that a creator leaves behind. With the recently departed Stan Lee, we quickly realize how much was taken for granted but also how much was even possible thanks to the man. By introducing the world to fascinating characters like Batman by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, so many other creative writers are given the opportunity to tell their own stories throughout the generations to come. While some manage to conserve these characters’ personalities, others bring in new and refreshing takes that could either impress or vex the reader. Enrico Marini is one of the latest writer who has been offered a clean slate to create any story with any artwork style and with any character design in his debut within Gotham city. As a critically-acclaimed European comics master, this opportunity culminates into a beautiful over-sized graphic novel containing a two-part story that ends with a shocking revelation that will leave fans in awe.

Batman : The Dark Prince Charming features some of Batman’s most classic characters including himself, the Joker, Catwoman and Harley Quinn. The story focuses on the kidnapping of a little girl by the Joker and presents us a race against time as Batman investigates the alleys of Gotham and attempts to persuade the crooks into revealing the whereabouts of the Joker. As dead ends lead to frustration, Batman struggles to contain his rage and is thrown in an abyss filled with dread that will ultimately lead him to do everything in his power to save the innocent life of this little girl. The stakes are high for him as he holds a knowledge that proves to be inconceivable yet so dangerous.

What Enrico Marini accomplishes in this project is to take some of the most iconic tropes related to Batman and compiles them in one story as seamlessly as possible. Completely accessible to any reader, Batman: The Dark Prince Charming is an intimate tale that draws upon Batman and Joker’s most humane side while fueling a tantalizing suspense around this mysterious and feisty little girl, her safety and her origin. The writing isn’t bad per se, but it is stale and off-key sometimes as it struggles to be entirely convincing, but manages to remind you some of the characters’ most iconic traits.

The best part of Batman: The Dark Prince Charming is the artwork, and it is not a big surprise since Enrico Marini is known for his talents with the brush. In fact, he paints Gotham in such a vivid tone that simply seeps with gloom and danger. The overtone is jaw-dropping and immediately draws you into this universe without any second thought. The character designs are also impeccable, especially their mannerism throughout the story. Even the action scenes strike you with authenticity and makes you doubt that this is his rodeo in Gotham. His passion for Batman is palpable and it is easily to feel it in this American comics debut.

Batman: The Dark Prince Charming is a stunning graphic novel that presents fans with a captivating story featuring a mystery that will leave readers with countless questions by the time they reach the last full-page panel.

I think I liked this more than a lot of people did, yet for all its offbeat charm, it isn't really all that great, either. The highlight is the artwork, which has a kind of Heavy Metal-feel to it and is really quite beautiful throughout. And the larger page size really helps to show it off. The story involves a young girl whose mother claims that Bruce Wayne is the father. When the child is kidnapped by the Joker, Batman must figure out what his scheme is. And to be honest, even by story's end, I'm really not clear what it was myself, even with a final panel twist. Still, it's always kind of fun to read an out-of-continuity Batman story and see these characters--including Harley Quinn, Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and butler Alfred--though new eyes.

Enrico Marini's painted, European style art is rich and enjoyable, but the characterizations and plot don't feel quite right. The Joker's character is arbitrary hyper-violent and other times silly. The Joker's design is classic 70s/80s Joker but feels cartoonish in a way the hyper-violence doesn't correct for. The dialogue is often stilted in ways that remind one of Silver Age Batman--particularly Harley Quinn--who is a non-identity. Catwoman and Alfred are on consistent but not key parts of the plot. The main driving plot and the continuity breaking with the secret child are just obnoxious, although Alina is an interesting character in her own right. The art is so good though that I can't bring myself to hate this and the Silver Age but violent feel does hit a nostalgia button.

This is an aptly titled story, "The Dark Prince Charming".
Beautifully written, well paced and a fully suspenseful story. This one had a lot more suspense than other Batman stories.
Bruce Wayne is confronted with a child that may (or may not) be his. Kidnapped by the Joker, what exactly is the tie between the 3 of them.
The Dark Prince Charming throws a new view of both Bruce and the Batman and I as a reader felt the huge sense of responsibility that comes with being a Dark Knight.
Great read/listen well worth having in any collection.

(Zero spoiler review)
I had no idea this existed until I stumbled upon it at the library. One quick flip through, and its main (possibly only) was obvious. The exquisite Marini art enthrals and captivates in a way that few other American superhero stories have. Sure, we've been blessed with thousands of immensely talented artists on various titles over the years, although the European style is a wholly separate and undeniably beautiful beast, and I wish there was more if it making its way over to the West. His drawn out aerial shots of Gotham are sublime, and show Gotham in a way that many comic artists, and basically every film director has failed to bring to life. If this book was nothing but Gotham city concept art, I would be a very happy camper. But the dynamism of his characters, the choice of colours, the framing of his panels, the man is a master of his craft when it comes to putting pictures on a page.
Sadly, and this is a very big, very loud sadly, the man's talent comes to a grinding halt when it comes to the words accompanying his drawings. I suppose it would be criminally unfair for a man to be overtly talented in both fields, but I could live with the inferiority complex (as I can barely draw stick figures) if it meant we got something equally as enthralling to read about here. I've never read a thing of his before this, but something tells me people accept, or suffer through his stories just to look at the pretty pictures. The man's obvious enthusiasm in his foreword about writing a Batman story was palpable, although even there, you could see the limits of his vernacular, his stilted language coming to the fore. Quite why artists so often feel compelled to write, when they clearly aren't that talented is a mystery to me. Envy? Ego? Ignorance? Maybe they just want to have their work over and done with in a matter of days, rather than weeks. So then does editorial smile, pat them on the head and let them have at it, as long as they keep drawing books for chump change? I feel editorial have a lot to answer for here, as the man's characterisation of some of Gotham's favourites, particularly my girl Selina, is almost unforgiveable. His dialogue is frequently stale and occasionally cringey. That said, every now and then, he'll nail an exchange, or even an individual line. Then again, a broken clock is right twice a day. If someone had the balls to pull him up on some of his poorer choices, or better yet, give him a better writer to work with, though I doubt he would've done the book if he didn't get to write it. The story itself is fine, but its execution page to page is amateurish. The common curse of the comic rears its head again. A really skilled editor could have dramatically improved it without the author knowing, thinking it had all been his idea. Everybody wins. Unfortunately, this is modern DC, and there are no talented editors. Maybe they could release a version of this with empty word bubbles, so I could fill them in myself. Or even a version with no dialogue at all. That way I don't feel drawn to read the unfortunate words tarnishing the beautiful drawings. Great to look at, but not much else. 3/5

Catwoman is hot. And so is Harley. This artist knows what I like. The story, though? It's a series of deus ex machinas which lower its rating in my eyes.

Mariah Shelley accuses Bruce Wayne of being her child's father. Bruce is immediately concerned about the girl called Alina. Soon after this the Joker, while on the lookout for a present for Harley's birthday, kidnaps the girl, apparently out of the blue. Batman looks for her whereabouts desperately, fueled by anger.

After a woman comes forward and claims to have Bruce Wayne's love child, the Joker takes the kid hostage. Now Batman has to find the Joker and somehow not get her killed while dealing with the bombshell of a daughter now being in his life.

Enrico Marini gives us a story that, outside of the kid part, was pretty straightforward. Just Batman kicking ass and going after the Joker to kick his ass. I think the thing that stood out the most about this book was the art. It looks really really good. It has a great sense of style that makes the action scenes seems more cinematic. When Batman swoops in, cape blowing in the breeze to land a heel directly on some bad guy's chin, it looks top notch and really dynamic. My favorite part about the book was the art.

Not to say the story was bad, not at all. Its just a pretty standard Batman episode, again with that interesting twist of Bruce Wayne possibly having a daughter. But I liked the story overall, even if it is a little standard.

If you like more traditional Batman stories, check this one out.

Finally a good comic to renew my faith in the medium!

Brilliant painted art, backed up by a solid story - a simple plot, but written well enough for what it was.

The Joker has rarely looked better.

There is one amusingly egregious butt-shot of Catwoman where Marini didn't even try and hide his intent. And then there's Harley... But whatever, it's a fun, vibrant, cinematic, cool comic. I hope Marini gets more DC projects.

Maybe it's just because I've read a string of disappointing shlock in the comic world recently, but this gets a
4.5.

No pudo negarse a tal petición.

Read this on a whim since I’m not usually into DC stuff, but I figured why not on this one. The art is so nice and pleasing to the eye, and the color palettes make it feel like looking into someone else’s dream. That being said, the writing could have been better, specifically the dialogue that was just off at times. Some of it felt a bit too... modern? Maybe that’s just because the only Batman comics I’ve read aren’t from this decade, but it seemed to take a lot of influence from the relatively recent movies. Idk, it was short and sweet, I don’t regret reading it.

Vtipné, niečím nové a ten veľký formát tomu fakt svedčí.

Jiný a přesto Batman. :)
