Lisa Blackwood is the USA Today bestselling author of the Gargoyle and Sorceress Urban Fantasy series. She and her new co-author, S.M. Schmitz, are also embarking upon a new Space Opera Romance series. Book one is titled, Vengeance: Warships of the Spire. It can be found in the Dominion Rising boxset anthology.
As well as writing, Lisa is also an avid gardener, horse enthusiast, and dog lover. She grudgingly lives in a small town in Southern Ontario, though she would much rather live deep in a dark forest, surrounded by majestic old-growth trees. Since she cannot live her fantasy, she decided to write fantasy instead. Freya, her ever faithful and beloved hellhound, ensures Lisa takes breaks from the computer so they can rid the garden of cats with delusions of conquest.
Lisa Blackwood is out with another of her A Gargoyle and Sorceress Tale novels and, somehow, even at its sixth book, Legacy of the Sorceress, she’s still managed to keep this series fresh and imaginative. Both Anna and Obsidian / Shadowlight are wonderfully crafted characters, who are complex, genuine and very appealing to me as a reader. That’s what really makes this book, though I’m not dismissing the fact that it’s really well written, had a great supporting cast and a plot that is exciting and tons of fun. If you’ve been following this series I can guarantee you’ll love this book. Newcomers can start here but really you are far better off starting with book 1 (Sorceress Awakening) and moving forward. It’s a great book (which I separately reviewed) and you’ll both enjoy the ride to book 6 and get the maximum impact that way. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. This book 6 definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to Sorcery and Firedrakes, the next book in this series.
Corporal Anna Mackenzie knew what she wanted, but fate intervened and her life took an unexpected turn. When she awakens from what the gargoyles call the stone sleep, she is thrust into a new reality with the young gargoyle, Shadowlight, all grown up. She had promised her young friend tgat she would never leave him, so when he a deal with the Lord of the Underworld to save her life, she will honor his bargain.
Wow! Fascinating, complex characters that will have to come to terms with their new life, and learn to adapt to a future they could have never anticipated. Exciting plot with action, suspense, and lots of magic. Fantastic book, I loved it!
I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.
OMG! I thought book 5 was my favorite, until I read this one. Anna wakes up after 13 years in a stone healing sleep to find Shadowlight has grown up and now calls himself Obsidian. But he still needs her, and Anna promised Shadowlight she would never leave him. Anna must adapt quickly because the Lady of Battles may be bringing the battle to them. But it’s not just learning how to fight and use her gargoyle strengths. She must learn how to grow her link with Obsidian if they have any chance of winning the ultimate battle. The creatures in the Lord of the Underworld’s domain are incredible. Ms. Blackwood does a remarkable job of describing her characters.
Yep, after Shadowlight cures her wounds the best he can, and its not enough, he makes a deal with the devil. Lord Death to be exact. Shadowlight agrees to continue to train and learn while Anna is healed. Neither of them knew it would be thirteen years! A great read, and a great series.
Anna sleeps 13 years in her gargoyle form in Haven while Shadowlight grows up to become Obsididian. When she awakes, she is confused about how much time has passed. But in the real world, very little time has passed. Lord Death hid them so that they could come into their powers without his sister finding out. A lot of action and a great story.
So much of Anna and Obsidian (Shadowlight) story is in this book and not much mention of the prior characters of the books Lillian and Gregory. Apparently that will change in this next book when the Lord of Death (Dray) takes on his twin evil twin Lady of Battles. Can't wait to read more!!
I am so glad you decided to make this into two books. To show the bond between Anna and Obsidian grow was beautiful. Truly becoming soulmates was written so perfectly. Thank you and can't wait to read the next book.
Legacy of the Sorceress (A Gargoyle and Sorceress Tale Book 6)
Man that was worth the wait for this book to come out, what you got is a hell of a read books in the series and only one more worst luck to finish it it has been a great series to read so far...
Lisa you started me on a journey and I need to know how it ends. I now have that there must be a showdown between Gregory and Shadowlight. Will be waiting for the next chapter. Thank you for the journey!!
From the first book in this series to this one so far # 6 has been a great storyline. Very well done characters with great inner workings between the main group on the war between good and evil.
I was hesitant at first, I wanted to read more about Gregory and Lillian. But I got caught up in this one Now the suspense of new Avatars?...... I need to to know when's the next chapter or book or this series
The development of Shadowlight into adulthood and the merging with Anna was in my opinion a great world building story. With the added twists, made for a excellent story.
Amazingly original! Definitely not what I expected, but I completely LOVED this story of the rasoren Obsidian and his kyrsu Anna. Loved it. I wholeheartedly recommend this book!
Legacy of the Sorceress (A Gargoyle and Sorceress Tale - Book 6)
What a great story. Danger, heartache, evilness, treachery, battles, compassion, love and patience fill the stories pages. So many emotions! Anna Mackenzie and Obsidian's story continues with training their gargoyle bodies to prepare for the coming war against the Battle Goddess. With the help of Lord Draydrak (Death), Obsidian (Shadowlight) will become the powerful leader of the gargoyles and dryads. Anna, his Kyrsu (2nd in command) has finally bonded heart, mind and soul with her Rasoren. Their future is one of uncertainty, but with a massive gargoyle army at their command, one can only hope the Battle Goddess and her evilness will be defeated. Now onto book 7. I'm new to Gargoyles so this was a fun introduction to their world. The two main characters had a lot of angst in their romance while they figured things out. It is a happy ever after ending though.
A fun read with love as the first ingredient in a growing romance. All the good versus evil drama in a well crafted world of gargoyles and sorcery. Very enjoyable. Highly recommended.
I love reading this series about gargoyles and sorceress. All these different magical creatures is so amazing. They way you tell about them all is riveting.
