Aisling Grimlock may be the center of the Grimlock world but that doesn’t mean her father and brothers don’t have opinions… or adventures of their own.
Join Cormack, Redmond, Cillian, Braden and Aidan as they navigate a brave new world… and try to keep Aisling out of trouble at the same time.
This five-novella omnibus includes Grim Like Me, Grim & The City, Now & Grim, Grim & Bear It, and The Grim & The Dead.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
I enjoyed Aisling and Griffin’s series, and I have a lot of fun catching up with what Braden and Izzy are up to in their series, but this collection? Um... I wasn’t at all enthused.
Let me just say that it was mainly an issue with Aisling. Her constant combative attitude just grated on me. In her series, Aisling’s moods fluctuate and she can be sweet, sad, temperamental or flat out rude, yet that works. However when there is no break in her abrasive personality, then she got on my last nerve.
I did enjoy seeing things from the male Grimlock PoV, I just wish Aisling hadn’t been a dominant force in all 5 novellas.
I started this box Set after I read the 9 book series called, An Aisley Grimlock Mystery. I love the Grimlock family, a widower and his 5 adult children, four boys and one girl, all reapers. The series stars the youngest, Aisley, as the major character and heroine. But all the Grimlocks are fascinating. This set of short stories featured each of the other Grimlocks, Dad and four sons, as the hero in a short adventure. Some of the adventures happen in the past, when the siblings were young and their mother was still alive. They were all great stories, highly entertaining.
This is an anthology of stories told from the POV of the Grimlock men.
The stories: * The first story is take your daughter to work day, and seeing Cormack deal with wee Aisling and Jerry while collecting a soul was fun * Next is Aiden and Jerry fighting over attending a home expo and buying new furniture and Aiden ends up going to help Aisling collect some souls * 3rd story is Maya tricking Cillian, Graham and Aisling into attending a Shakespeare in the Park performance and a performer is killed on stage * 4th story is when Redmond was babysitting the rest and gets an emergency call to get a soul at what turns out to be a rave * 5th story is Braden and Aisling left to work while the rest of the family attends a convention
What I enjoyed: * I think I preferred Aisling's attitude in the stories when she was a kid (seems more explainable). Otherwise it was a bit grating reading so many in a row where she just takes everything personally and refuses to use common sense. * Was nice to get some glimpses of Mom in the older stories
What could have been better: * Less Aisling in most the stories would be nice and more focus on the narrators, especially since the voices didn't seem that different
One of my favorite things is finding short stories set in one of my favorite series. These are each from a different point of view. And I found it really nice to hear from Aisling’s brothers. I found that reading these stories gave me more insight into each of the characters. Each story is set in a different time period.
Another great addition to the Grimlock stories! These are one by one stories told by the Grimlock boys and one by their father. So fantastic! Funny and touching as well. So worth a read. Another hit for Amanda M Lee!
This is a book of shorts featuring various members of the Grim lock clan. If you have read the Aisling Grimlock series, you should enjoy these stories.
Love this family. The whole series is great. Just wish for more Aisling books. Love it when the author flashes back to when Aisling and Jerry were kids.
