Sassy-mouthed Stevie Devore has always had a crush on the local fire chief. Gorgeous silver fox, Evan Paige, is way out of Stevie's league, however, not to mention the chief has always been a ladies' man, but when Stevie turns twenty-one, he decides he's tired of only daydreaming about Evan. He wants a real taste of that sugar daddy, even if it means turning the flirt factor up a notch or ten to make it happen.
This 36k word novella has pee-in-your-pants humor, peel-the-paint-off-the-walls steam, and a smidgie-poo of hand-on-chest swooning.
I write M/M romance with humor, heart, and heat. Check out my backlist here on GR for a selection of series and standalone or visit www.LucyLennox.com!
I only keep a small list of my very favorite books and series in my bookshelf here. I read A LOT and it's hard to keep the list updated!
Unpopular Opinion ahead! And this time it is not me! Maybe it is the book, but i will blame Davim!
Judging you Davim! Totally not me!
Shite! I can't! I really can't! I can't stop rolling my eyes! Ugh!
One day Evan is thinking about Stevie as a kid, then BOOM! BAM! the next minute, He wants to suck Stevie! baby this! baby that! Ummmmm! Nope!
*Chants* I will not go on rant about Stevie! I will not go on rant about Stevie!
Mama said if you got nothing nice to say don't say nothing at all! DAMN Mama!
Ok! maybe a mini rant.
Stevie is supposed to be this sassy, out and proud, with a bubbly personality? I mean look at the cover. Well, Stevie is not! His has this Hyde and Jekyll personality thing going on, very horrible to Evan and his so called friends. I understand that he has a horrible past and his insecurities, but that is not an excuse snap and be mean to people who are nice to you! Ugh! Stevie pissed me off, i really loved him in the previous books. Here, is like he had a personality transplant.
The Dialogue??? Ummmm! ugh!
I will continue to read the Wilde series, the Wildes are the best bunch. Not ready to give up yet.
The beginning of Flirt was so cute and funny, I was bouncing in my seat. But as the story progressed, it lost some, then most, of its charm.
First of all, the Chief went from treating Stevie like a kid, to being in full lust mode, to falling in love, faster than butter melts on a hot flapjack.
There was no real anticipation or relationship development. As soon as Stevie started dating the love of his life, he lost his damn mind and began acting like a defensive, sulky teenager.
Steve's sassiness crossed the line into meanness. He was rude and dismissive, and constantly gave Evan shit about being older. He was unpleasant to customers.
And when Evan proclaimed his love in front of god and county, Stevie yelled, You shut your whore mouth!
And they say romance is dead.
Needless to say, I wasn't a big fan of Stevie. I liked the Chief more, but I didn't like how he bulldozed his way into Stevie's life.
There were a few humorous moments, and Stevie was an incredibly eager virgin, which made for some scorching sex. The HEA was all that with frosting on top.
I just think the story was all over the place and didn't really gel.
I don't think this novella can be read as a standalone; it overlaps with Hudson and Charlie's story.
I’ve always loved Stevie and Evan’s teasing banter in the previous books and the tension between them has obviously been through-the-roof since the beginning, so I was really looking forward to reading their story.
I was hoping for a little more of a slow-burn here, but instead we got a relationship that moved at breakneck speed. That was disappointing, but I tried to just go with it. I luckily succeeded pretty well at that, especially because these two did know each other for a very long time already, so I could accept that their deep affection and love for each other was something that was based on years of knowing each other before the book started!
Their dynamic was honestly just absolutely awesome. They’re an age-gap couple with a huge size difference, and Evan truly has a very nurturing attitude towards Stevie. They’re both obsessed with each, but Evan would seriously give him an arm and a leg if only it would make Stevie happy. Stevie created quite a bit of drama between them, but Evan was always there to pick up the pieces and run after him. Evan was seriously whipped and I love that.
All in all, I had a lot of fun with this, and I wish these two had gotten their own full-length novel, because I don’t think I have had enough of this couple just yet!
This definitely is my new favorite Lucy Lennox obsession. 😁 I absolutely freaking loved this little audio! 😱😍 Stevie is so unapologetically feminine and gay and sassy, I can’t help but falling in love with his character. 😌 The banters in this book are just pure gold! 😂 I snorted out coffee several times through out audio. It’s “I-almost-peed-my-pants” funny. 🤣 Granted, Stevie was a bit whiny and fickle in the middle but I forgave him quickly for his wits. And oh that delicious silver-foxy Evan, I freaking loved that drop-dread gorgeous firefighter chief! 😍😋 A stunning man with a heart of gold and so caring and lovingly tender and protective! I looooooooved him! 💜 Seriously though, when you either read or listen to this book, do not consume anything liquid. 😁 I started listening this book and one minute in and I spewed coffee all over my laptop. 😂🤣👏 Thank the MM god it was ok. Anyhow, love, looooove, looooooved it! Lucy Lennox did a onehelluva job portraying Stevie character. 👏 And as always our Michael Pauley delivered this book and more. The guy has the voice of an angel! 😍 I loved how distinct and different his voices for Stevie and Evan. 😌 Wish this was a full length novel because I need me more Stevie sassiness! 😉
The start seemed promising but then it went downhill from there.
The gist of the story is Stevie has been in love with Evan Paige since the first time he saved him from being bullied at the age of 11. Now at age 21 Stevie's heart is still set on Evan who is now the local fire Chief. Stevie always fantasized about being with Evan but never thought he had the chance but low and behold Evan has been crushing on Stevie too.
Should be a simple get together and HEA right? Yeah, not so much and the number one problem was Stevie himself. His immaturity through this one really made the age difference apparent.
The problems I had with this one were many but rather then list them I will basically say this book was just all over the place.
Look. It's not me, it's a little the book, but I think it's definitely the author. Once upon a time I vibed with this author and basically worshipped her work. These days I'm having more trouble with it than anything else and yet, I can't seem to let go.
Anyway. This actually started out great. Sweet even, but it quickly went south. I know it's a novella. I know it's supposed to be short. But it completely lacked any kind of substance. It was all jokes, jokes, jokes. And not even funny jokes. More like a hot mess of situations I think were supposed to be funny but totally, at least for me missed the mark.
Stevie was supposed to be this fun loving guy who loves flirting, but really is a sweetheart. However, he came off as a douche canoe. He was basically rude to everyone around him. Basically he's a young, male version of aunt Tilly and her annoying gang of old ladies from the authors Made Marian series.
This was actually really funny, I knew Stevie's story would be completely extra and I wasn't disappointed 😂
I do think there was too much jammed into this one though, there was so much focus on Stevie's mum and the neighbours when with a short story I'd rather it just focus on the relationship. It just felt hard to connect to them as a couple when the relationship moved so fast because so much else was taking precedence.
**** Flirt is a short story in the FOREVER WILDE series. A refreshing, romantic, rousing romp ! We find minor angst, about the age difference we usually see; nor did the older man say he was sorry for being too old. NOPE. Our sexy silver fox is Fire Chief, Evan, 41, and he's the pursuer.
Flamboyant Stevie, 21, is going to get his greatest wish.
We get some funny vignettes and two very sweet men who need each other. Evan has no reservations, but Stevie is afraid he's not good enough for Evan. On top of that, Stevie is lots of flirty talk, but has no experience in the sex department. Issues arise and Evan is there every time for Stevie. Cute banter, deep emotions and a devotion that is amazing. Totally fun, relevant and super romantic. I wish it was longer. I have liked this whole series. ENJOY !
I don’t think I realized Stevie was that young. He’s really young. Really.
I am, I guess, a really cold hearted person but man, I am not a fan of the “evil” or “bad” Mom getting away with well, being evil or bad. I hate stories like this because I think the Mom needs to be punched in the face. The Mom never gets punched in the face and always seems to get the best second chances evah! Ugh. This bitch did not deserve what she got. Bitch.
Anywhoo! Aside from those two itty bitty shockers I kinda loved this little story. It was over the top instalove at its finest. And believe me when I tell you, the Chief fell head over heels in love in like half a second. BOOM!
I smiled a lot, laughed a lot and of course shook my head a lot. Oh, and I kept reminding myself that Stevie is like still a child.
I truly think that the Wilde’s have surpassed the Marion’s now, or at least are tied.
Yes, it’s not really long. And usually I’d say that you can’t do much character development in a novella, but seeing as we already know the characters from the previous books (and a part of the story happens at the same time as the previous book), it was really well done. The characters were already introduced, but we get more depth and background for both of them here (ok, especially for Stevie The Flirt).
I laughed out loudly while reading it, and while the story wrapped up pretty quickly (it IS a novella after all), the swoon-factor was just perfect and made me finish it pretty quickly, with a huge smile on my face.
I loved the dynamics between Stevie and Evan, and I’m happy to see them both happy together in the probably queerest town in Texas - looking forward to the next couple 🙂
This was so good and funny, I laughed out loud so much while reading. Stevie has been the funniest character in this series and I’m so glad so finally see him get him happy ever after. Even if the relationship did move at the speed of light, it was so cute and their kind of dynamic is my absolute favourite in books
I was really hoping this would be amazing. And, in the beginning, it was really good. I totally felt for Stevie. Even Evan's interactions with him - so much good material there!
Then they sort of get together - and OMG they both turn into assholes! Stevie acted like a surly teen with lots of "as if" or "I can't even" and f-bomb language along with snarky, nasty comments which were not cute, not funny, and fully obnoxious. I cannot for one second believe any of that was appealing to a guy like Evan who was in his 40's. Seriously - no one is attracted to that. It's not even fun bratty behavior that needs a spanking. More like a scared straight moment. AND the fact anyone thought Stevie, with his attitude and his words, was appropriate for a small child - well I don't know what they were smokin' but it sure was great.
Then again Evan got to be a bit creepy with the way he just sort of takes over - what happened to the confident, sexy firefighter? OMG he comes off like a, well, not someone I'd want to be with. It was like we had to get Aunt Tilly's nasty awful inappropriate humor (I cannot deal with that character at all and try to skip every scene she is in as I find nothing funny about her) in the book so we got Stevie acting like a 15 year old who no one who was even 15 would date with his general assholeness. And Evan who was just yuck - having quickly devolved from this stand up guy.
No. Just no. The writing is strong itself in structure - but maybe this authors characters are just not a good fit for me. I want to either beat the crap out of them or lock them up in jail. Their general maturity level is teenager all around much of the time. I really liked the first Wilde novel but that's it.
Going into this one I knew to expect an average story. And my expectations were met.
Stevie was fun at the beginning and then he turned into a hot, evasive mess. Chief was alpha growls from the get-go and that didn’t change at all. In between that we get hit with Stevie’s domestic issues which seemed to get shoved in there for heightened drama, but only served to make me scratch my head.
It’s no secret that I adore Stevie and would’ve loved to give this a 5-Star rating but I couldn’t in good conscience do so.
There are things that went really well and others... not so well. I don’t know whether to attribute it to the short length of this book(I personally think Stevie should’ve gotten a full length book) or the way everything felt rushed but it had potential to be so much more.
I do hope we get to see glimpses of the couple in the next books
Short and sweet and a hell of a lot of fun. I completely adored Stevie (although I'm not sure that I would have forgiven his mother if I were him). Chief Paige is just what Stevie needs and wants. He doesn't want Stevie to be anything but himself and that's a story I always fall for.
I have been thinking about reading the Wilde series for a while but this is the short story that made me take the plunge.
I love characters like Stevie that are so fully themselves. Watching me go after Evan and Evan really value Stevie is a treat. This is a funny sexy read.
Joyous short story in the Forever Wilde series written by Lucy for the amazing Back To School Instafreebie giveaway.
Stevie and Evan were just a wonderful pair, gruff and protective Fire Chief and outwardly sassy but secretly quite innocent barista Stevie made my heart melt.
Everything about this short story just worked for me.
I don't remember Lucy Lennox ever being this funny. lol I mean, there is of course Taming Teddy and Grounding Griffin. But this was kinda epic! I was laughing my ass off. ;D
Stevie is hilarious. Sassy, mouthy, flamboyant and a flirt. Fitting title.
"Stevie was vivacious, sexy, funny, and enthusiastic. With a healthy dose of bossiness sprinkled in."
There is one man however who makes him stutter, his lifelong crush. Evan is the Chief of the Fire Department. He'd known Stevie since he was a 12-year-old kid, but the past couple of years since he turned 18, Evan started seeing him in a different light. When he finally gets the chance to have some alone time with Stevie, he takes it.
There is a 20 year age-gap between the men, but no one seems to be particularly bothered by it. NO DADDY KINK! (But they do tease each other though). And they are just sooo good together. Stevie is very outgoing, so lively and vibrant, but Evan can handle him. He doesn't try to hold him back, but lets him soar.
If you know the author, you know there tends to be some cheesiness in her books, this time I think she reined it in a bit, but it's still a sweet, fluffy short story. The humor though... OMG!
Whatever the reason was that made me decide not to read the Forever Wilde series, right at this moment I can't seem to recall. lol
3.5 Stars! Great enjoyable little novella where Stevie, the precocious little twink in Hobie finds his HEA with the hot and older Fire-Chief Evan Paige. The beginning is quite humorous and full of sass as was expected from a story about Stevie. 😁. It lost a little of its fervor in the middle of the plot with a lot going on in Stevie's life.. , Nevertheless through troubles and trials this May-November couple find their groove and the epilogue is very sweet. 😍
OMG this was so cringe worthy. I’m a big fan of Lucy Lennox, but this was just awful. The story is definitely 1 star for me. I gave it 2 because I listened to the audiobook and Michael Dean was wonderful as always. So the second star is for him. I love a sassy fem guy and his butch boyfriend. However, Stevie was a creepy drama queen and I never grew to like him.
Sweet short story but nothing to call home about. Stevie was adorbs but didn’t care much for how their love story developed. By the blurb, I was expecting something else.
This was a short quick read in the "Forever Wilde" series. Stevie Devore is one of the biggest flirts in Hobie Stevie grew up in a neighboring town he was bullied in school and by is brother. Fire chief Evan Paige is a silver fox he has watched Stevie grow up he is 20 years older. Stevie is the happy go lucky only he's not. I really liked Stevie he worked like three jobs to help take care of his sister and his mother who was depressed. This book had some funny scenes in it like Stevie asking Nick to teach him how to give a BJ and then discovering that he Stevie was a virgin when they thought he was booking up left and right. Evan has to work to prove that he is for real he wants a relationship with him. Stevie has insecurities he can't believe the chief wants him. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Glad to see Stevie finally get a happy ending of his own with Evan. Stevie is 21 while Evan is in his 40's, so there is quite the age difference, but they love each other.
It was interesting to know more about Stevie, because he's basically just been a guy who has flirt with the guys in previous books before so we didn't know much about him.
He's had a tougher life than he's let out, and the fact that he can be so sweet and happy and full of life is amazing, and Evan clearly sees that. He needs something to take care of him and love him and Evan is just the man to do that.
Probably only 4.5 Stars but OMG, I've been dying for Stevie's story since the first installment and it did not disappoint. LOVED the humor, the snark, the banter, THE SEX. Michael Pauley NAILED the voices for this audio, and my only complaint would be that I wanted a longer story!!
Me alegro de que haya sido un freebie y que no gasté en esto. Dramático, OTT, ridículo, patético. Me dió vergüenza ajena. Por lo menos me sirvió para darme cuenta de que nunca voy a leer a esta autora.
