The 27-year-old Wei Han is a slightly fat, slightly chicken-livered, and slightly foolish, pure-hearted and besotted top, and his sweetheart who had been together with him for seven years, in the end, was stolen away by Qi ZhiFan one morning. Deeply broken-hearted and in despair, he went overboard with binge eating, and ended up pathetically choking to death…
Luckily, he received a second chance, yet his timing, position, and destiny all got warped, and the him who returned to being twenty followed his remarried mother into the Qi family, turning into Qi ZhiFan’s non-blood-related older brother.
Well, Wei Han swore that this time, he must alter his dumped-as-cannon-fodder fate, and since he’s become his love rival’s big bro, he can definitely torment this scumbag little brother to death, restoring his position as the rightful top and quickly carry his bottom home!
However, why is the development of the plot spiraling further and further out of his control? Why is Qi ZhiFan looking at him with a scorching, burning gaze, acting more and more questionable ( ⊙ o ⊙ ) eh?! Thus, Wei Han was pushed down into an official bottom…
I often ask myself a question: why do i still continue reading low quality BL?..
Anyway...
It’s Not Easy Being Your Love Rival’s Big Brother by 精分柚子茶 (Jing Fen You Zi Cha)
Advice before reading this novel: Everytime they have s*x just imagine that they use lube by default and it is just not highlighted. That will make the process go more smoothly. 😊 What I have to say after reading this novel; I liked the premise but not the characters. Wei Han. Immature, lacking self respect, s*upid, always made me have the sense of Spanish shame. The most memorable thing about him: "Requesting his annual leave, Wei Han bought a ticket and took the train all the way back to his hometown in N City’s countryside" and left Qi Zhifan to deal with consequences alone. Qi Zhifan. Rude, selfish, jealous, arrogant. The most memorable thing about him - calling his love interest ugly, fat and s*upid (also when in relationship with him). I wouldn't want my partner to call me ugly and s*upid - as a matter of fact I wouldn't want anyone to call me that (even though it was true). The narrative was anticlimatic. Any conflict was solved with no real effort and very quickly. Some story lines were introduced for a reason known only to the author or left without closure. Though on the plus side there were few funny moments (no, i am not talking about the moments when MC was behaving like an imbecile). In overall I would give it 1.5/5 stars. I cannot say that I liked it but I did finish it.
In the previous life, Wei Han was a 27 years old plus size pushover pastry chef, who got dumped by his boyfriend. In his melancholy, he choked to death. He woke up to his 20 years old skinny self and vowed to not let his 'boyfriend' chance encounter with his love rival. It was a huge shocked to him because his mother was still alive and married to his love rival's father, making him and his love rival, step-brothers.
It's a fast pace story, fully translated, where we got to know the reason Qi Zihan (the love rival) was attached to Chu Chuanyao (the 'boyfriend') in the previous life. But of course, in this life, as explained in the summary, Qi Zihan's obsession was towards Wei Han. Qi Zihan was a refreshing tsundere as compare to clueless Wei Han, which made them a great couple.
It was an okay read. Read this a few months ago. The MC and ML aren't related. It's a rebirth story with the MC dying and coming back before things in his life had taken a bad turn. His body type is different so he doesn't have the self-image issues he had when readers first met him in the beginning chapters but it is still apparent later in the book. His love takes a turn as the blurb suggests. Ended okay, I wish there story had been a tad less angsty in the 2nd half of the book. I would have love to have seen more extras of MC in his original physical body pursue ML and succeed instead of the tiny glimpse.
2.5 rounded up because it wasn't bad. It wasn't great but it wasn't a bad way to while away a few days. I do wish that there was a bit more competition over Chu and more angst overall because this was quite fluffy.
Summary: Wei Han gets dumped by his long time boyfriend, Chu, for a beautiful guy, Qi Zhifan, with a poisonous tongue. Wei Han eats his feelings, accidentally dies and gets reborn a while before meeting Chu. His mom ends up marrying Qi Zhifan's father so Wei is now his big brother and he plans to get his revenge only Qi Zhifan is too smart and eventually he falls for the silly Wei Han and love ensues.
pros: pretty unique and interesting rebirth concept, decent characters and side characters/couples, pretty funny at times, plot was overall also pretty solid
cons: .... so much second hand embarrassment especially at the start which made me almost drop the book, mc and the love interest both did very morally questionable things at times either bc they were jealous or tried to get revenge which didn’t sit right with me, the love interest just was unrealistically strong/unflawed/rich (at 18??), questionable mental age difference of 27 and 18
I mean, I like Qi ZhiFan but I don't find their relationship very healthy? At least not until the extras... Also I wanted to read the story of Six Hot ;-;
As a whole the story was rushed and months and even years would pass in a single sentence. The romance was kinda believable but many things weren't fleshed out.
All in all a entretaining and quick read but pretty meh.
Stepbrothers (with no blood relationship) romance. The story was quite fast-paced, and the brothers got together pretty quickly. There weren't many problems besides ML's over-protectiveness and jealousy.
