Il secondo round del regiment de cuisine è servito! Il cliffhanger finale non ci voleva proprio, sono proprio curiosa di sapere chi vincerà. Mimasaka e Kuga sono in perfetta forma!

To think that I once hated Mimasaka before for all that he did.. But I guess he was the one being saved by Souma. Now he has come, more competitive, more reliable and has brought a new technique up his sleeve. To think I'd one day be proud of him. My gosh what an astonishing team!

Good buildup to the fall of the resistors for sure!

World: The art is solid, the world building is strong with character moments that builds up the ones competing in the second round. The history of the characters matter cause they make you care.

Story: A strong second round that deal with new characters that don't have a lot of backstory and we have a lot of that. We also have a lot of strong cooking ideas which are interesting. It is leading to the fall of the resistors in the second round but it's still good.

Characters: The character moments are strong from the master of ramen to the Kuga stuff, solid!

A good build up before the shoe drops!

Onward to the next book!

The second bout (Of how many? I don't know.) of the big final showdown against the evil forces of the big bad school dean focuses on b- and c-list characters in the series. Art and story are well done, as always, but this round of the competition is not really deserving of a whole volume plus however much of next volume is needed to resolve the cliffhanger ending. If this is any indication of the pacing, it looks like this series will be treading water for quite a while yet before this unfortunate story arc is concluded. Even so, I still enjoy it more than most other manga.

The battle Resistance vs. Central continues! This one focused on some of the side characters but was still very pleasing in terms of seeing how both their cooking styles and characters had developed

- Perfect trace becomes eVen MOre perFEct
- Chinese chef learns more than just Chinese cuisine
- And they learn to work together in these team shokugekis lol
- The green tea puree looks so bomb
- Interesting concept of smoking meat with tea leaves as well
- hungry all the time when I read Food Wars

I'm only rating this one 4 stars instead of my usual five, mainly just 'cuz there's not enough Yukihira! But even so, I'm really enjoying this group shokogeki, and the way this second bout is presented is pretty great! I liked getting to know more about Rindo, who's always been interesting and funny, but here we get to see just how much of a cooking badass she is! And Kuga! I love me some Kuga. I also weirdly enjoy Mimasaka, so it was fun to have him back again, and I loved seeing just how Soma managed to convince "the shokogeki-hating chef" to come on board.

No conclusions to these three concurrent shokogekis--those, of course, are being held until the next volume. But there's still so much fun in the process that I don't even mind the constant cliff-hangers between books. Bring on volume 27!

*note to self, switch review to English version when it exists*

The battle continues. In the 2nd bout, Kuga (former 8th seat and Sichuan specialist), Subaru, and Tosuke (former 3rd seat and ramen master) are defending the rebels' side against Eishi (first seat), Rindo (crazy second seat), and Somei (former 5th seat, now 4th seat, sushi master).

As far as their character design goes, Subaru, Tosuke, and Somei are all big, hulking, scary-looking guys with variations of wild hairstyles. This made them difficult to tell apart at times, such as when a close-up of their faces was shown, or if the character was making an expression that stretched his face into something different. Having them all competing at the same time was occasionally disorienting, but did make me learn to differentiate them better.

Speaking of characters that look alike, now that Soma is getting older-looking (taller, longer face) and his hair is longer, there were a times when it wasn't clear if he was speaking or if Ryo was speaking.

Kuga has wanted a rematch against Eishi, who once battled him and didn't even remember his name the next day. Their theme is green tea. Subaru uses his improved perfect trace "flash" method (where he essentially seems to read his opponent's mind) on Somei in their bluefin tuna match-up, with both of them making a gorgeous-looking 10-piece set of mini tuna ruby sushi. Finally, silent and steady Tosuke and Rindo square off over chili peppers -- he with his ramen speciality, her with a crazy live alligator that tries to escape.

We finally learn more about Tosuke's backstory and how he came to join the rebels' side. When Soma first made his offer, seeking out allies to add to the first-years' side, Tosuke immediately said no. Soma visited him (he was already Hokkaido trying to help ramen shops whom Central was trying to shut down) and faced off against him over and over, trying to best him in ramen (which Soma lost each time). Impressed by Soma's passion for what seemed like a losing cause, Tosuke agrees to help. Though this backstory sounds pretty realistic, it's also rather underwhelming.

I didn't enjoy this volume as much because it felt short on new story developments. Tosuke isn't much of a beloved character (we barely knew him), and we don't learn much about any of the other new competitors. The story is also more focused on secondary characters, rather than Soma and his friends we've already gotten to know. Aside from that, Subaru's "flash" perfect trace method feels too supernatural for a story that has resided ~relatively~ firmly in the real world up until now. Sure, his attempts to perfect-trace Takumi and Soma were kind of realistic before. He followed them around for days to see what practice dishes they were trying, who they met with and what they talked about, and spied on the ingredients they bought, too. But there's no way he was able to do that for his bout with Somei, so he was basically reading the guy's mind on the go.

We conclude this volume with the six competitors lining up their dishes in front of the judges for judging.

The second round begins and if you haven’t guessed from the cover, this volume involves Rindo and alligators. But that’s not all. This round involves five heavyweight chefs and one really good copycat.

I will say, however, that this volume is mostly flashy, pretty art and backstory. The actual food judging happens next volume, so sit tight because this arc is going to be long and drawn out.

This series has 36 volumes.

“What is African ramen anyway?!” This may be my new favorite quote and I honestly have no idea why. I really liked seeing the backgrounds of some of the more minor characters in this volume. Can’t wait to see who wins!

Food Wars: Shokugeki no Sōma!, Vol. 26 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (218–226) of the on-going manga series.

The tankōbon begins and concludes the Second Bout of the Régiment de Cuisine. Like the first Bout, it's a one-on-one competition in a group of three. The Third Card is a match focusing on Tuna between Subaru Mimasaka and Fourth Seat Sōmei Saitō, the Second Card is a match focusing on Chili Peppers between Tōsuke Megishima and Second Seat Rindō Kobayashi, and the First Card match focusing on Green Tea between Terunori Kuga and First Seat Eishi Tsukasa.

Simultaneously, they battle with their respective ingredients, as the manga goes into many flashbacks to reestablish and create backstories to each respective competitor. They present their dishes and the judges evaluate them, but the tankōbon closes before any decisions can be made.

This tankōbon is written by Yūto Tsukuda and illustrated by Shun Saeki. Tangentially, it started and almost concludes (save the results) the Second Bout of the Régiment de Cuisine. This tankōbon mainly focuses on the back stories of the newer characters, the rivalry between Terunori Kuga and Eishi Tsukasa, and how Sōma Yukihira recruited members to join his team, particularly Tōsuke Megishima, former Third Seat, Ramen Master and hater of shokugeki.

All in all, Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Sōma, Vol. 26 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

Other than a really annoying cliffhanger ending to the volume, this was a good story about how the young chefs have learned their craft, and why Soma Yukihira has such an influence on them.
That said, the bit with the alligator was funny, but not all that believable. Still, it showed more about what kind of a crazy character Rindo is. I especially loved the sequence of illustrations showing the three facets of her cooking personality, as well as the part about her love of exotic food ingredients.
The clues about the Central chefs focusing on their own needs, even though the rules of the contest permit [and encourage] chefs to assist and cooperate with their teammates says a lot about them and the Central style.

The second bout, where we're having the highest ranked antagonists face off against our barely used supporting cast. I like that they're getting a chance to fight, showing off the skills of the opponents while also letting some less popular characters (who are also former opponents from earlier on in the series) come back and show more of their own style. And since Soma isn't involved, everything is different! Unfortunately because these are lesser known characters, who are barely given a role in this series, the matches aren't very compelling. It does feel like a stepping stone to raise the stakes for the latter rounds when our main characters appear instead of a good one-off bout.

The next set of six chefs begin their battle in the second round of the team shokugekii.

As sometimes happens in this series, I don't enjoy the volumes that are solely focused on the competitions as much. I like the character development and the interactions among friends (and sometimes rivals who become friends). #26 had some of this, but it's mainly flashy drawings of food being prepared and, at the end, served. It's still good, but it's an appetizer - bring on the entrée!

Good Rush!

I really gave it five stars on this one because it went pretty quick on the second bout battle, although you don't know who's going to win yet until the next volume. I have an idea more or less who's gonna win, but we'll see. Buying the next one already to see what happens next.

Fun second round of the team shokugeki! I'm excited and nervous to see how Kuga, Mimasaka, and former third seat Megishima do against the current top three seats on the Council of Ten. It ended in a cliffhanger before the judging!
