A sadistic serial killer--the ADA who convicted him ... Amanda firmly believes in keeping things strictly professional between herself and her coworkers, and seducing a man ten years her junior is the last thing on her mind when Cole suggests they finish up their work at her place. Cole has his own agenda, however, and she quickly discovers that she isn’t the hunter. She’s the prey. Caught in the sights of two dangerous men, Amanda realizes she'd in deep trouble.
synopsis: amanda likes to keep things professional at work, so she doesn't indulge in office flirtations, although she has noticed cole, who is younger than she is. when amanda is offered the opportunity to be the da, as long as she trains her replacement, cole, she jumps at the opportunity, even though it means closer contact with cole. cole suggests that they go to her place to finish up a project, amanda wants to make it clear that there will be no hanky panky, but cole has other plans. one of the violent offenders that amanda put away years ago is up for parole, and she has to worry about that, too. oh, and cole has a secret past that he doesn't want anyone to know about.
what i liked: the premise. i was interested in amanda and cole.
what i didn't like: there was too much sex and not enough story. (something that i never thought i'd ever type.) what story there was seemed slapped together with little regard to what made sense. shadowy past! rapist getting out of jail and coming after someone! there was just too much going on.
How this books ends deeply disturbs me, the heroine needs counseling and a hard slap. The high powered lawyer older woman seduction schtick is seasoned with a sadistic serial rapist/murderer on the prowl and heap big daddy issues. I really really really don't want to like this book, but if wishes were horses beggars would ride. The characterization was impressive and it pulled my heart strings as often as it turned me on, but I couldn't handle reading this book again (ever). Make out of that what you will.
The description for this book doesn't really explain the story. There is a dark serial rapist plot and Cole has a dark past. The blurb makes this sound like a typical work romance.
Regardless, I did like the book. I do think the end was resolved a little too quickly and easily, but it was still a good read.
This was just ok, I really prefer her novels over the shorts. This one did have a no way moment at the end and the end wrapped up nicely. It was quite different than the other Zant books I've read though. Worth it for a quick steamy read!
