Liam Wolfe isn’t having the best of days. He’s being falsely accused of things he’d never even think of doing and is now facing the loss of his career because of it. He has an idea of who’s behind the attempt at assassinating his character but can’t put the pieces together by himself.

This is the third book in the Stonewall Investigation series, and it may be my favorite in the series. This time we get to meet Mark Masters, a Detective at Stonewall Investigations. Mark’s boyfriend has just broken up with him, and in walks a new client, Liam Wolfe. Liam and Mark are childhood best friends that lost contact and find each other, by chance, 16 years later. This makes for a really sweet basis for their friendship to springboard eventually to love. The story is filled with excitement, lots of drama, a mystery that gets solved, as well as a beautiful love story. Could we have asked for anymore? This quote from the book pretty much sets the stage for this warm, sweet story of two friends who become much more. "I was relaxed and happy because I was looking into a pair of eyes, I had been missing all my life, except I never realized it until I had looked into them again for the first time in years. It had been such a dormant yearning. Something that would influence the majority of my dreams.” You may want to grab some Kleenex, just to be on the safe side

Bad, bad author, no snuffing a character just when i thought he was getting a book. Bring tissues. this was the perfect love story, the trope i love. if i didn't have a time limit on this review i would wait until i'm not so mad at Max to write it, because i can't seem to get passed Collin

L'ho trovato un po' troppo lento fin oltre la metà. Sul finale finalmente c'è un po' di movimento per quanto riguarda la parte investigativa.

Steamy and complex second chance romance. An intriguing twisty turny story-line that will keep you reading all in one sitting. Awesome writing and the characters come alive as you read their story.

Liam and Mark are childhood best friends that lost contact and find each other by chance after 16 years. This creates a really sweet basis for their friendship to spring board to the love they will experience as men all these year later. i laughed, cried and celebrated their love in this amazing story.

This is the third book in the Stonewall Investigation series and i would recommend reading the series in order. This could be read as a stand-alone, however you would miss much of the back stories of the guys at Stonewall. i have become very attached to all the guys there!

My favorite quote from the book is: " I was relaxed and happy because I was looking into a pair of eyes I had been missing all my life, except I never realized until I had looked into them again for the first time in years. It had been such a dormant yearning. Something that would influence the majority of my dreams, yet was forgotten by lunch the next day. But laying eyes on him again blew open all of those dreams and painted them as if they were Michelangelo masterpieces, throwing it all into such a clear focus."

These books just get better and better. This is the third book in the series, and, as with the others, it draws you in and you don't want to put it down til you're finished.

I loved Liam and Mark from the word go. I do like me a second chance romance and a friends to lovers story, and this certainly hit the mark. Liam was such a sweetheart, and it was obvious that he and Mark were meant for one another.

From beginning to end the story just pulled me in, it flowed pretty well, and I was intrigued to find out who Liam's accuser was.

It's quite an emotional story, the heat between the two MCs fairly jumped off the page. The Unicorn also rears his ugly head again, and I've got to say I came to a point in the book where I wanted to slap Max upside of the head? How could you?!!??!!

Good addition to the series. The plot moved along quite nicely Highly recommended if you like a good mystery series.

Sweet and Sadness

I feel like this one has a little more sadness than the first 2 but also had a healthy dose of sweetness and heat.

Mystery of the Big Meanie

The characters in this book are sympathetic. Mark and Liam were childhood friends who meet as adults and realize they've been in love the whole time. Should be good, right?

Actually, no. There is no getting-to-know-you-again moment. They're just instantly hot for each other, when Mark just broke up with his boyfriend minutes before. Both guys are nice and have good senses of humor, but not very distinctive personalities.

So, let's talk about personalities. Liam is a big name director who somehow got big despite living in the wrong coast, yet he doesn't have a big ego or any other unpleasant personality quirks. He spends money like water, even when his career is on the rocks. He goes from having a random guy ready to suck him off to big gesture romantic in a couple weeks. His job should require him to spend a lot of time away from home on location, which is not good for relationships.

Mark is a down-to-earth PI who doesn't care very much about money. He has a run down apartment and cheap clothes.

These guys just don't go together, as far as I can see. Will Mark quit his job to follow Liam around? Wait happily at home, while he works with hot young stars away on location for months?

Next, the plot. Liam had bad rumours spread and wants to figure out who, so he can get them. That's a lot of money for the slap on the wrist the person would likely get. Luckily, there's a couple potential murders to sweeten the pot. The plot is slow, and drags despite "two weeks later" signals. I flipped through a sex scene because I just wanted to see how it ended, which was predictably.

The Unicorn: I thought this serial killer was a little silly in the first book. Every additional book, he gets more and more preposterous. Killing gay men? Easy. Figuring out who is partnered (including some in the closet), killing them in their own homes with nobody seeing him, bringing in his own linens, and doing it all without evidence of breaking and entering or neighbors noticing? Incredibly unlikely.

There is never any talk of what evidence anyone has or how they're looking for this guy. Why wouldn't they be sharing the info they have and brainstorming about it? It seems like it would feel especially important to share as much info as possible when the guy starts sending gifts and killing cats.

Quick and entertaining read. Sweet second chance at love story between childhood friends.

The book's written in a very energetic and direct style, which is great for humor and action scenes.
I really enjoyed some of the internal dialogue and the joking banter between the MC's. However, I do feel that some moments in the story would benefit from a little bit more build-up or subtle hinting.

I think the hunt for the Unicorn serial killer should have generated more tension and unease for Liam and Mark than it did now. He's almost an afterthought, introduced so we can follow up on some of the other detectives, whereas he could have been more "present" and threatening than he was now. Not to say that he didn't make his presence known at all :-(

The plot concerning Liam's career was eventually solved by Mark, though I think the investigating he did went too easily, consisting of (mostly) innocuous conversations. The search could have been more eventful, with a bit more danger or suspense lurking behind dark corners. Also, Mark's a detective...he should have figured it out sooner or at least have had an inkling things were not as they seemed. The culprit was suspect from the beginning, I think, and neither Mark nor Liam picked up on that at all. It's okay to create false leads to distract the reader, but the heroes should not have been equally stymied or gullible.

That being said, I am curious to see how things will progress at Stonewall Investigations. I hope the Unicorn will finally get what's coming to him.

I love Max Walker and immensely enjoyed the other three Stonewall books. This one was fine, but had some holes that were really hard to ignore.

The good: Great second chance/friends to lovers tropes, witty dialog, likable cast of characters, excellent pacing, swoony protagonists with a sweet romance and good communication. The author really captured the immediate spark of reconnecting with old friends who knew us best way back when. I’m VERY happy no “miscommunication” or “misunderstanding” tropes (world’s most annoying literary devices.)

Here’s what I didn’t love:
1) The central “mystery” introduced in the first chapter is beyond implausible. An *anonymous unsourced defamatory letter* about Liam corroborated by a slimy guy with a bad reputation would never hold up against dozens of legitimate actors with positive first hand accounts of working with him.
2) I had a hard time distinguishing between Mark and Liam as their POV were so similar.
3) For someone smart, cautious, and professional, Mark misses important clues, jumps to conclusions, and makes a lot of dumb decisions. From such a careful author, this felt like lazy writing.
4) The lack of caution with a killer on the loose was surprising. Home security, body cams, ring cams, and the buddy system, people. Come on.

I’ll finish the series and all the other Max Walker books because, Max Walker. Just don’t start with this one.

First of all I loved this book! It can definitely be read as a stand alone as I haven't read the others in the series (but I will now).
Liam and Mark were childhood best friends but when Liam moved away they lost touch and although they had both tried to reconnect there had always been something that stopped them, such as a misinterpreted photo on facebook. All that changed when Liam walked through the doors of Stonewall Investigations looking for a detective to solve the mystery of how and why his career had been ruined. He was assigned to Mark and immediately sparks flew and they felt like they had never been apart. Liam and Mark are such wonderful characters you are immediately drawn into their world and their lives and the fact that they are meant to be together. They face a lot of tough decisions as well as heartbreak when The Unicorn strikes again, but this just makes their bond and love for each other stronger than ever. The way the investigation ends is very dramatic for everyone involved.
The authors style of writing is witty and flows very easily through the story with tantalising lines in various chapters that make you want to keep reading. He writes in such a way that you feel like you know all of the characters and not just Mark and Liam. I definitely recommend this book and the author and will most certainly be reading more from him.

3.5 stars.

Mark and Liam are 32 and 31 respectively. They were best friends and each other’s secret crushes back in high school 2001). The book is set in 2017 other than the flashbacks. Liam became a famous director and Mark became a cop who quickly realized cops are bigots and instead became a PI.

I do love the whole childhood crush second chance thing as adults! That was fun!

As usual with this author the character meet and are almost instantly in love and super horny for one another. That works for me in these books, but if you don’t like that you won’t like this book (or anything by this author).

It’s always fun to see more of Enzo and Zane! They’re still my favorite couple!

I think for me there were a few too many similes, and a few too many cliffhanger sentences (I.e. “but little did we know, neither of us would get any rest for a long time.”).

Overall I had a lot of fun with this book in the series!

Mark and Liam were childhood friends. Their connection was always an incredibly close one. Then Liam moved away. All these years later, Liam is a movie producer being accused of some pretty horrible things and he walks into Stonewall Investigations to hire someone to help clear his name. He is assigned to Mark.
Mark is having a rollercoaster sort of day. First, his boyfriend of over a year just broke up with him out of the blue and now his first crush has just walked into the door and asked him out to dinner. Mark says no, wanting to make sure that he's free of the emotions of his breakup before pursuing anything with, arguably, the man of his dreams.
And I like that about Walker. There are no fast and furious one-day-and-we're-in-forever-love in his books. The relationships pause when people need to work on themselves and then unfold like normal adult relationships. Normal adult relationships with a lot of sex.
The relationship parts of the books are always great but I wish that the mysteries weren't so out there. It takes me out of the book a bit.

Mark loves his work at Stonewall and when his boyfriend breaks up with him seemingly out of the blue, he’s a bit lost and wondering how he missed the signs. Until his childhood best friend and first person he ever loved shows up looking for help. Someone’s trying to ruin his career and slandering his reputation and in the background, Collin is still hunting the Unicorn and danger lurks closer.

Reasons I Recommend:

1) Liam and Mark were shocked to see each other again and yet it felt like kismet; the way they instantly connected like no time had passed

2) The six degrees between the characters from Liam being friends with Griffin who’s with Alex who works with Mark and yet they never crossed paths before this and

3) How one obsession can chase down and influence one person while destroying another.

Love, Laughs, and Intrigue

This is the third book in the Stonewall Investigation series and it may be my favorite in the series. Actually it may be favorite from Max Walker altogether.

In this book we get to know Mark Masters, a Detective at Stonewall Investigations. Mark’s boyfriend has just broken up with him, and in walks a new client, Liam Wolfe.

Liam is a movie director based in NYC and he comes to Stonewall to get help trying to prove that the recent allegations brought forth against him aren’t true. What Liam doesn’t expect when he walks into his new Detectives’s office to already know him. Mark was his childhood best friend.

Both Mark and Liam are anxious to continue their friendship that was derailed when Liam moved away. Not only do they want to rekindle that relationship, but also the one neither of them was ready for in the past.

This was a great mystery, love story and some great laughs too!

This book was really fantastic!! Liam needs help or his career will tank. So he is referred to Stonewall Investigations. When he meets the PI, he is shocked, it is his best friend from growing up, the one man he was totally in love with. Mark has followed Liam’s career but never tried to get in touch with him. Imagine the shock of seeing him in his office asking for help.

Mark promises Liam that he will clear his name and find the person responsible for the wrongdoing. During this time, these two seemingly pick up where they left off from many years ago.

This book was amazing. It’s raw emotions, heartfelt longing, laughs and tears. It’s about second chances and of course drama, investigations and digging for the truth. It also has tragedy that totally rocked my world while reading. If you loved the first two books, you will truly enjoy this one and wish for book 4 soon!!

When life hands you lemons, make lemonade!!

Mark and Liam are handed lemons. A break-up out of the blue and someone trying to destroy a career. In seeking help to stop his career from being destroyed, Liam unknowingly comes to his old friend and first love, Mark for help. As they try to save Liam's career, they renew their friendship and begin a romantic one. I love this story, it will make you laugh and cry. Especially if you have read the other Stonewall Investigations books. The Unicorn killer is still out there terrorizing everyone. I REALLY want that sucker to meet a just end, but that will also probably be the end of a FANTASTIC series that I do not want to end. Read the book you won't regret it; make sure you read the others too!!! Max's books are addictive, you will beg for more!

A tangled truth
Liam a budding film producer gets accused of theft and physically assaulting back ground actors. Liam's friend Griff suggests he hires a PI from Stonewall Investigations where he bumps into a very familiar face.
Mark is feeling sorry for himself after just being dumped by his boyfriend until a blast from the past walks into his office needing help.
Liam & Mark were childhood friends until Liam suddenly moved away but now they're reunited the sparks soon fly. Mark always protected Liam when they were younger so is determined to clear his name and get their HEA.
The murder, mystery suspense continues in this book, oh and also plenty of hot scenes. The Unicorn strikes again very close to home 😢. So excited for book 4 will they catch the Unicorn?

I LOVE this series & these guys!

I've been waiting on pins and needles for this book to release. And let me tell you, this book was SOOO worth the wait!!

Like the other books in this series, A Tangled Truth has loads of suspense and hot as hell man on man action. It also had some very shocking events happen that totally blindsided me and broke my heart. But that's what makes a damn good book in my opinion. I love getting surprised and taken off guard. The ongoing investigation/hunt for the Unicorn killer is continued in this book too. They are definitely getting closer to finding him, I think something even bigger will happen in the next book.

All in all, fantastic read and I'm really looking forward to the next one.

I’m really not very impressed with this guys mystery writing. Also the sex so often seems repetitive and boring.
Ok, so I’m a sucker for series’s & can’t seem to drop this one mid series. Still, it’s amateurish. The whole unicorn thing baffles me anyhow. I mean OMG! NYPD would have had this thing solved within a week if for no other reason than 1) the knife used is not something that’s a common item, & 2) the killer obviously never uses the same one twice since it’s always found in the victim. SHEESH!!! Track down the F-omg maker and find this POS!

BAD WRITING! 3 stars is more than generous and far more than the other books deserved (ok, I mildly liked 3.5 Andrews story simply because I was kinda smitten with Andrew)

Max Walker, what the actual!?Every book of yours just keeps getting better.I went into this series thinking I'm going to work out who the unicorn killer is...convinced myself it was someone they all know. The last book I'm like it's Mark, nope we get Marks story & I'm like it has to be Colin, like has to be!!!...then you do that ! I was so sad for a character we knew little about.
The way you write the raw emotions of these men, character flaws & sex scenes...chefs kiss to you!I have grown attached to every character so far & I'm here for it.
Obviously, I have no idea who the unicorn killer is, but I still think it's someone we know, but you have me on the edge reading these books to find out who it is 😆

A Tangled Truth
By Max Walker
Main Characters: Mark & Liam
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
4 1/2 out of 5 stars
This is a contemporary m/m 2nd chance romance with some suspense. Loved the character development of each person. Mr. Walker sure has the gift of gab for his descriptions of just everything. The chemistry & sex was out of this world. There were a couple of things I wanted to mention in my review (good things) but that would be a spoiler and I hate that when reviewers do it, so you should just read this book. I think it will lead to additional books with some of the secondary characters. Great job!

I fell in love with this book, right from the beginning it had me hooked. I loved the two characters of Mark and Liam who had been childhood best friends and secretly in love with each other. They drift apart after Liam moves away as a teen. They come into each others orbit again when Liam walks into Mark's office at Stonewall and the unspoken feelings that they had for each other come rushing back. The relationship between the two is just so sweet, I found myself smiling through most of the book. The book, however is not entirely sweetness and light. I thought it was well balanced out by some emotional moments. Overall I would definitely recommend it.

Max Walker has outdone himself with this book. He wrote these characters with his heart and soul. It leads me to wonder if some of the emotions and scenes in this book are similar to his own life. I will admit I was heartbroken about Collin. This book has all the feels. It will appeal to all who love friends to lovers and second chance romance. Add in the ongoing mystery in each subsequent book and you have an instant hit. I highly recommend this book as best in this series so far. That being said this is a series and needs to be read in order. Congratulations to Max Walker on this gem of a read!

Mark and Liam's story was amazing!! I am so glad that these 2 awesome guys got their own
story. This book was definitely worth the wait and I would read this and any of Max's books over and over again. There was suspense, drama, lots of hot sex which is always a plus LOL
Liam and Mark's story made you realize that no matter how many years or miles that separate you fate will always bring you back together. I am so glad that they got their happily ever after even after people kept trying to throw roadblocks in their way.

Congrats Max on another amazing book and can't wait for Zane and Enzo's story!!!

WOW!
Max Walker has done it again. A Tangled Truth is a great addition to the Stonewall Investigations series.
This is a second chance story with a bit of who dunnit thrown in.
Mark and Liam were childhood best friends when Liam abruptly moved away with his family.
15 years later, Liam is in need of a private detective and walks into Stonewall Investigations and into Mark's office.
After so many years apart, their friendship is easy, their attraction is immediate.
Although A Tangled Truth is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, but why wouldn't you want to read all 3 books??
Well done Mr Walker on another great book!!

Famous movie director Liam Wolfe watches in horror as his name is anonymously dragged through the mud online. When he approaches Stonewall Investigations to hire a detective, he’s assigned his long-lost best friend from high school, Mark Masters. Liam has an idea of who might be behind the attack and thinks there might also be a couple of murders to investigate. I enjoyed the premise and Liam and Mark’s backstories a lot, I think this second-chances romance / murder-mystery worked pretty well. This series all lean more heavily on the romance than on the mystery, but I liked the balance here. Greg Boudreaux performs well on the audiobook (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue).
