First of all, when we talk about The Prince, we’re not talking about Niccolò Machiavelli's Il Principe here. Though, there’s really no way of recapturing the childhood innocence of the little prince when he has aged enough to become a soap opera actor.
Why do we need another so-called-philosophical-contemplative-novel for adults when we already have Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Joyce, Murdoch, Camus, Nietzsche, Voltaire, Woolf, Borges, Wallace, Sartre, and other goddamn-serious writers?
If you want to write something new and different from the original idea, just create your own character, don't abuse our beloved Prince. Please.

This is the sequel to The Little Prince which up until yesterday, I didn't know existed. It's harsh to say but I wish it had stayed that way.
This books lacks any of the whimsy or charm of the first book, in fact it feels as though the author completely missed the point of The Little Prince and tried too hard to be philosophical. It's also very heavy on the religious undertones which took me by surprise as i wasn't expecting it to be so pious

NOT THE LITTLE PRINCE!
In this so called "sequel" of The Little Prince, we find a traveler that, driving his car, finds a already grown up prince sleeping by the side of a desolated road. The young prince comes back to the world in search of that old friend that had gifted him a little sheep in a box. Nevertheless, after many events and talk along the road, they both end up finding so much more.
On the positive side I can say this book is pretty short, with a few feel good moments, and some quotes to remember by. On the other hand, by the end you can't avoid the feeling that someone tried to use the immortal character of the Little Prince as a money grab to sell his doctrine. In fact, I believe this could've been a good inspirational book with a powerful message, if only the author had used a very different approach, without the little prince.
This is NOT the Little Prince, and very far from it. The Little Prince is an innocent soul that delivers a deep powerful message through its simplicity and innocence; a magical journey of enlightening and self-discovery. The Return of the Young Prince feels more like journey of indoctrination, with a direct and sometimes unnecessarily complex delivery; and mostly everything coming from the traveler, and hardly anything from the little prince
All in all: NOT the Little Prince, and NOT recommendable.

En esta llamada "secuela" de El Principito, encontramos a un viajero que, manejando en auto, se encuentra con un ya crecido principito durmiendo al costado de una ruta desolada. El joven príncipe vuelve al mundo en búsqueda de ese viejo amigo que le había regalado un cordero en una caja. Sin embargo, después de diversas charlas y eventos a lo largo viaje, ambos terminan descubriendo mucho más.
Por el lado positivo puedo decir que es un libro bastante corto, con un par de buenos momentos, y algunas frases para el recuerdo. Pero por otro lado, para el final no se puede evitar cierta sensación de que alguien intentose usar el inmortal personaje del Principito para sacar plata y vender su doctrina. De hecho, creo que esto podría haber sido un buen libro inspiracional con un mensaje muy poderoso, si tan sólo el autor hubiera ofrecido un contexto completamente distinto, sin el principito.
Esto NO es El Principito, y dista mucho de serlo. El Principito es un alma inocente que transmite un mensaje muy profundo y poderoso a través de su simpleza e inocencia, un viaje mágico de iluminamiento y autodescubrimiento. El Regreso Príncipe parece más bien un viaje de aleccionamiento, con un mensaje directo y a veces innecesariamente complejo; y todo proveniente mayormente del viajero, y escasamente nada del principito.
En conclusión: NO es El Principito, y no lo recomiendo.

setelah go set watchman yang hampir merusak keindahan to kill a mockingbird, padahal dia ditulis oleh penulis yang sama, saya hampir tidak percaya lagi soal novel 'yang dilanjutkan'. dan kepercayaan itu purna sudah setelah membaca the return of the young prince ini. karena novel ini jauh lebih merusak dibandingkan kelanjutan novel legendaris harper lee itu. mulai dari konsep hingga taste yang ada di le petit prince dibabat habis di novel ini.
saya tidak tahu, entah mengapa seorang AG Roemmers berani-berani menafsirkan hal baru yang sangat monumental dari le petit prince. soalnya ini bukan fanfic, spinoff, atau sebagaimana fifty shades of grey terhadap twilight. ini benar-benar kelanjutan kisah pangeran kecil yang dulu ada dan sekarang menjadi remaja, makanya dinamakan young prince.
pertama, kalau dibandingkan dengan le petit princele petit prince. di novel tersebut, pembaca bebas menafsirkan bahkan saya sendiri mengulang membaca sampai empat kali dan di setiap akhir pembacaan, akan menemukan hal baru dalam pemahaman. dan sangat mungkin di pembacaan2 selanjutnya akan ada hal baru yang luput saya cermati. dan di sini, saya seperti sedang duduk di kursi pengajian dan si narator menjelaskan tentang apa itu masalah, menyelesaikan masalah, bagaimana menjadi berbeda di kerumunan, dan apa itu tuhan. makanya ini membosankan.
kedua, ini yang menjadi titik krusial paling ajaib. logika anak-anak yang menjadi kuat di le petit prince terasa kurang sekali. ya, karena memang dewasa tokoh young prince. tapi, saya tak mendapatkan keindahan membaca sebagaimana saya pusing-bahagia-penasaran saat membaca le petit prince.
ketiga, soal pemilihan cover. saya pernah diskusi dengan pecinta garis keras le petit prince, dan kami sepakat bahwa cover yang edisi ini (karena saya pernah lihat di books and beyond, edisi english tidak memakai cover dan ilsutrasi dalam yang ini, milik Laure Hastings) mirip oppa-oppa Korea justru. heeeheee
kalau kita berekspektasi soal kelanjutan le petit prince, sepertinya akan menelan kekecewaa seperti saya. maka, mungkin digeser ini adalah karya baru. dan siap-siaplah 'bosan' mendengarkan ceramah si narator.

The Little Prince was so innocently written and this was not. I mean, it's not bad, but I just feel like the narrator was trying to hard. Not my favourite read by far...

Before asking for a review copy of the book, I read several book reviews and most of them are thoughts of disappointed readers or fans of The Little Prince. I kind of hesitated to ask for a review copy, but I decided to give it a try.
Without having to compare this book to Antoine's "The Little Prince", I assure you that this is an exceptional one. Many people compared this book to TLP, I chose not to: because first and foremost this book was written by a different author with a different journey together with his very own Young Prince.
Roemmers used a neutral, yet alluring diction. One wherein you will have to think deep not because of his choice of words-because it's direct to the point, but because of the message he conveys. There wasn't much of a story, for the reason that the book seemed to be just like a "self-help" one. Also, a good storyline is missing.
I took quite a lot from TROTYP, I somehow managed to connect myself to the book, not to the journey per se, but to the words of wisdom present. The quotes, almost each line and dialogue are all memorable. Despite the fact that the illustrations are too elementary, I was impressed due to its simplicity.
Overall, The Return of the Young Prince is such an inspiring and a beautifully written piece.

این کتاب خیلی شبیه به داستان اصلی هست اما بنظرم نویسنده بدترین اشتباهش این بوده که با جلو رفتن روند داستان وارد حالت نصیحت های مستقیم شده و انگار دوست داره منظورش رو از روال داستانی بگه و یک جورایی نصیحتمون کنه که اصلا با کتاب اصلی جور نیست!

Pensar que la felicidad depende de conseguir cosas es un autoengaño tranquilizador. Como lo importante se convierte en tener o no tener, la búsqueda se orienta hacia algo que está fuera de nosotros, lo que evita tener que mirar hacia nuestro interior. Siguiendo este razonamiento, podemos ser felices sin cambiar, solo consiguiendo esto o aquello.
Justo lo que necesitábamos. Consejos sobre cómo vivir la vida de una de las personas más ricas de la Argentina – que, para hacerlo aún peor nació ya siendo una de las más ricas. No me malinterpreten: sé que hay que juzgar a un texto por sus méritos literarios, no por la identidad del autor. Lo que pasa es que en este caso los méritos literarios son ¿cómo decirlo? inexistentes. Es una obra sosa, llena de clichés, a menudo risible, y no me valdría ni el más mínimo comentario si no fuera por el dato de su autor, que además de todas esas cosas la hace también notable y grotesca.
Empecemos por la contraportada. Se afirma que de este libro se vendieron tres millones de ejemplares, y que fue traducido a 32 idiomas. Datos posiblemente ciertos, como es cierto que el Ministerio de Educación argentino lo recomendó como lectura para los estudiantes de secundaria, y que recientemente se puso en escena una adaptación teatral. Pero, si se rasca un poco la superficie, se entiende que todo este presunto éxito es una cortina de humo generada por la inmensa fortuna del autor, al igual que toda su presunta carrera literaria.
Sobre Alejandro Roemmers no hay escrito un solo paper académico, ni una tesis, hay un solo escritor que lo cite como una influencia o inspiración. En cambio, aparece en títulos de portales de Internet marginales, lo invitan a programas de cable, recibe premios de los que nadie nunca oyó hablar (ni volvió a oír hablar después de que él los ganara), y recibe loas de personajes tan rancios como Alejandro Vaccaro, presidente de la SADE, que sin que le temblara la voz consideró a Roemmers como un candidato para el premio Nobel. No me voy a preguntar cuánto le pagaron, porque la SADE a esta altura se puede comprar por Mercado Libre, y además porque ni siquiera el gran maestro de las letras argentinas estuvo libre de los atractivos de la familia farmacéutica. Cuenta por ahí Roemmers que, cuando adolescente, le armaron un encuentro de una tarde con Borges, quien oyó sus poemas y los comentó. De paso, en la misma entrevista, dice más o menos que Borges mucho no le gusta.
Otro dato biográfico. En 2013, cuando Jorge Bergoglio se convirtió en Papa, Roemmers, que se considera su amigo, le dedicó un poema largo y espantoso. En Youtube se lo puede encontrar en una versión multidisciplinaria, leído por Arturo Puig mientras, de fondo, Alejandro Lerner toca el piano. Aparentemente, los mejores artistas que el dinero puede comprar. Por si no quedaba claro, Roemmers es la versión ligeramente más presentable de Ricardo Fort, el empresario chocolatero que hizo un reality show online, un programa de televisión y no una, sino cuatro obras de teatro – y en todo le fue consistentemente mal.
El regreso del joven príncipe pasa por ser una segunda parte de El Principito. Un libro que, como queda claro, no es santo de mi devoción, pero sí lo es para millones de lectores en el mundo. El que Roemmers se considere a la altura de algo así ya nos habla de su sentido de la importancia personal y de su escasa autocrítica. Impresiones que se confirman en el texto. Hablar de segunda parte es incluso demasiado generoso, porque de lo que se trata es, a fin de cuentas, de una self-insertion fanfic. Lo que ocurre cuando un autor amateur toma una obra que le gusta y la reescribe metiéndose a sí mismo en la historia (para ser, generalmente, el centro de atención y el objeto de amor de todos los otros personajes). Lo que diferencia a Roemmers de los chicos de dieciséis años que hacen lo mismo que él, es que él puede comprarle los derechos de la obra a los herederos de Saint-Exupéry y publicar el libro y promocionarlo en los medios de comunicación.
A mí, aunque El Principito no me guste, me indigna esta apropiación. El avatar de Roemmers en el texto se encuentra con una versión adolescente del personaje y le imparte sin parar -no es un eufemismo- lecciones de vida. El personaje se transforma en nada más que un dispositivo literario, la voz que hace las preguntas que Roemmers responderá. Los fragmentos narrativos del libro son toscos, y los sapienciales totalmente indigeribles, hasta el punto que empeora incluso los del original. Con el agregado de que acá está todo teñido por una mística explícitamente cristiana, que no estaba en Saint-Exupéry. Ah, ¿y mencioné ya que el libro está dedicado a Jesucristo?
Los Roemmers del mundo hacen que me pregunte cuánto faltará para la Revolución.

نمیدونم چرا اینقدر نقد منفی نسبت به این کتاب هست،شازده کوچولو همیشه کتاب موردعلاقه من بوده و بارها بارها با دلتنگی سراغش میرم و میخونمش،اما این کتاب هم تونست جاشو توی قلبم باز کنه،خیلی ها گفتن پر از حرفای تکراری بود، ولی به نظرم بعضی وقتا لازمه همین حرفای تکراری بازم بهمون یاداوری بشه.

The very first thought I had when I read through the book is that this book is by all means not necessarily a sequel to The Little Prince. It’s simply Roemmers’ story of his life and how he views the world with the prince in it. There are a few references to the first book, however, but that’s it. So keep in mind that this book is not a continuation of The Little Prince as it is a completely different story all by itself.
Sooo with that out of the way, here are my thoughts of this book!
The writing is exquisite! I can go about highlighting the entire book because all the quotes are so memorable! The narrator is very similar to the one of The Little Prince. The only difference is that these two explore an entirely different set of questions.
Both the narrator and the prince explores one problem, and as they work out a solution to this problem, they come across completely different sets of questions that needs answering as well. The way they go about it is absolutely hilarious and witty, yet moving and emotional. It’s a very quick read, about 200+ pages (the book itself is a mini hardcover. Plus it has illustrations [which are GORGEOUS by the way] so it really shouldn’t take you very long to read), yet it’s able to speak to me in SO many different ways.
My only problem with this book is the prince. He has not changed one bit (except for his age). He’s still the ever so curious little prince we all come to know about, and while i’m perfectly fine with that, I find it hard to picture the prince as an actual young adult. The narrator seem to treat him the way you’d treat a four year old. It seems that after all these years, the prince did not go through any character development whatsoever. Yes, I know it’s not exactly a sequel, and even though it does make the story very nostalgic, it would’ve been nice to see a different view of the Prince’s perspective. Instead, the book made the prince look very immature and naive..
But overall I really enjoyed this tribute ‘sequel’ to The Little Prince! The illustrations are beautiful and so are the aspects of the story. This book is like a little guide to life and it’s something you can bring along with you wherever you go. You’ll definitely learn a thing or two from it. I’m sure I did.

As a sequel this book fails miserably as the author is unable to remove himself from the text enough. The entire book is a conversation where the author as narrator teaches the prince about humanity but in the end realises it was the prince who taught him about himself all along.
It’s very high and mighty and just too much, with a very ham fisted message. At times I thought the author would say “and then everybody clapped” as he seems so proud of his astounding message of goodwill.
Had it been published without the prince character then I wouldn’t have read it, but I’d also be all the better for it as I did not enjoy this book.

خب، تصمیمم رو گرفتم؛ با اینکه از وقتی که کتاب شازده کوچولو رو خونده بودم تا الان که چند سال ازش میگذره، همیشه دلم میخواست که بدونم آیندهی شازده کوچولو چی میشه وچه اتفاقی براش میافته، ولی با خوندن این کتاب، اصلا اون چیزی که میخواستم رو بدست نیاوردم، اون حس کنجکاوی باید همونجوری باقی میماند.
نمیتونم بگم کتاب بدی بود، چون واقعا اینطور نبود، نکات جذاب و آموزندهی زیادی داشت و خیلی چیزهای فراموش شده رو بهم یادآوری کرد؛ مثل بخشیدنِ واقعی، مثل قضاوت نکردن (که با وجود اینکه همیشه مخالف این قضیه هستم ولی ناخواسته انجامش میدم) مثل دوست داشتن همهی آدمها بدون در نظر گرفتن ظاهرشون.

در نتیجه به عنوان نوشته ای در ادامهی کتاب محبوبم نمیپذیرمش اما به عنوان یک کتاب مستقل، خالی از نکات مثبت هم نیست.
نمیتونم بگم کتاب بدی بود، چون واقعا اینطور نبود، نکات جذاب و آموزندهی زیادی داشت و خیلی چیزهای فراموش شده رو بهم یادآوری کرد؛ مثل بخشیدنِ واقعی، مثل قضاوت نکردن (که با وجود اینکه همیشه مخالف این قضیه هستم ولی ناخواسته انجامش میدم) مثل دوست داشتن همهی آدمها بدون در نظر گرفتن ظاهرشون.

Ca n'était pas aussi "intense" que Le Petit Prince. Rien ne sera jamais comparable mais disons que même si je n'avais pas mis Le retour du jeune prince sur un piédestal avant de le lire, son impact sur moi aurait tout de même était limité.
Il manque une sorte de finesse et de délicatesse poétique pour qu'à la place, le narrateur gave le petit prince (et le lecteur) de philosophie parfois qui m'ont fait réfléchir et parfois m'ont fait froncé les sourcils.
C'était relaxant, je dirais, mais c'est tout pour moi et c'est dommage.

Včasih knjiga enostavno sploh ne potrebuje nadaljevanja in Mali princ je takšen primer. Ideja o odraščajočem princu je sicer dobra, ampak žal zgodba ne doseže dobrega učinka. Avtor pretirava s svojimi filozofskimi in religioznimi idejami, kar je nasprotno od prvotne zgodbe o Malem princu. Komaj sem se prebila do konca, žal.

Voilà qui me donne envie de me replonger dans la lecture du Petit Prince de Saint Exupéry, cela fait bien des années que je l’ai lu maintenant ! Je vous préviens cependant tout de suite ce n’est pas ici une suite au livre bien connu, mais l’auteur nous parsème de-ci de-là quelques clin d’œil à l’œuvre originale, comme le mouton par exemple, ou encore l’aviateur. Ils ont ici un rôle bien précis dans la vie de notre jeune Prince, ils ont en quelque sorte façonné sa vie.
Honnêtement, j’ai eu un petit souci, mais minime, c’est que de temps en temps l’auteur parle de religion, plus précisément de Dieu, désolée je ne suis pas croyante, je n’ai rien contre la religion, simplement je suis libre de croire ou pas, tout comme chacun l’est. Donc oui, chaque fois qu’il est question de Dieu, quelques poils se dressent, je n’y peux rien. Mais ces moments sont assez rares que pour me poser un gros problème, la preuve c’est que j’ai malgré tout donné les 5 étoiles.
Ce que j’ai aimé c’est que l’on retrouve la philosophie bien présente dans l’œuvre de Saint Exupéry, note jeune Prince, bien que plus âgé ici, a gardé tout ce que l’on connaissait déjà de lui. Ici, l’auteur nous offre un regard sur notre monde, sur l’homme en lui-même, sur la manière d’agir et réagir de la plupart des gens. C’est assez profond par moment, il y a des passages de réflexions plus intenses que d’autres, des moments simples où la réflexion précédente prend le temps de faire son petit bonhomme de chemin en chacun des lecteurs.
Le bonheur c’est quoi ? A part la chose que tout le monde recherche, bien entendu. Eh bien c’est cette réflexion que développe l’auteur à travers les échanges du jeune Prince et cet homme avec qui il voyage durant trois jours. L’auteur fait réfléchir les lecteurs à travers tout ce qu’il met en lumière ici, il ne le fait pas de manière directe, mais bien à travers des réflexions que les personnages se font, à travers leurs échanges verbaux, à travers leurs actes.
D’après moi, ce livre pourrait plaire également aux plus jeunes, l’auteur écrit de manière assez simple pour que les enfants comprennent là où il veut en venir. Du moins, c’est ce que je pense. Je ne peux pas réellement tester sur mes enfants, un n’aime pas trop lire si ce n’est des BD, et l’autre a déjà une PAL monstrueuse (pas mon fils pour rien lui), mais je pense vraiment que ce livre est accessible aux plus jeunes.
Je ne sais pas si Le retour du Jeune Prince rencontrera autant de succès que Le Petit Prince, mais ce serait amplement mérité.

While The Little Prince had been extraordinary, this one was... well, ordinary.
This book was quite exhausting. The fact that it's only 156 pages but it felt too long for me is already problematic. At first, I found the narrator/author a bit pretentious, and when he just kept on throwing these philosophical mumbo jumbos, I realized that this is not about the Young Prince at all. It's about the author trying to show off his "wisdom" and "experience", and he didn't even try to be subtle about it. One of the things I love about The Little Prince is it's so simple, and the messages that the author wanted to impart were delivered in a subtle way, not too obvious, but not too obscure that the readers might not get it, which makes it a masterpiece, but this one, uggggh.
The insights of the author are quite nice, and they kinda make you think about things, but the way that he conveyed them in such a pretentious and show off-y manner ruined it for me. The only thing that prevented me from giving this a one-star rating is that I somehow liked some of what the author was saying. The book had a lot of "quotable quotes" that would really sound awesome if you take them from the book and say, post them on twitter, but in the book, they were delivered in a haphazard way that it felt like it was forced and the author looked like he's trying too hard. It might be better if this book is not a "sequel" to The Little Prince but a non-fiction, philosophical book.
It also felt like the Young Prince just became an accessory to show off the author's so-called "experience". The Young Prince asks all the questions and the narrator answers them all. I found it very unrealistic that the narrator was so quick in answering all the questions of the Young Prince.
In conclusion, this novel was a badly written fan fiction of The Little Prince. Thumbs down for me.

Un total desacierto haber utilizado una imagen tan icónica y tan emblemática para un punto de vista tan personal. Más que una linda historia el Principito es toda obra llena de magia, enseñanzas y humildad, y nada de eso lo pude percibir en esta historia. Si bien es cierto que las líneas están llenas de mensajes bonitos y frases prearmadas era más como si estuviera leyendo el discurso de un pastor o un Evangelista, o un “piquito de oro” como me gusta llamarlos, que tienen todo un Arsenal de argumentos y frases motivacionales y no como lo que me pareció que pretendía lograr el autor como una continuación de la estancia del principito en la tierra. Ya tenía mis recelos al comenzar, porque entiendo lo difícil de la hazaña trazada, no es fácil lo que pretendía lograr, pero lamentablemente, para mi no lo consiguió. Lo siento pero no me gustó.

I think this book was lost in translation. It felt way too wordy and compared with the original, it just didn't line up. I was dragging my feet with this one and to be perfectly honest, only finished it because I wanted to take it off my night stand. The last few pages were kind of beautiful though so it warrants three stars.

A timely reminder of loving incessantly. That what we need to heal this earth is to love one another. This is similar to what I read from a management book recently that to be an effective manager, you should be kind to everyone. Loving and kindness multiply themselves. In essense, it is very similar to the millennium movie (2000), "Pay It Forward."
But that is obviously easier said than done. Just like everyone else, when we grew up, we lost that kind of all-trusting, all-loving attitude. We become cynical, doubters and selfish. Our parents started protecting us when we were young. They say that this is a dog-eats-dog world and only the fittest survives. So, we go out of this world with a shield, the one that our parents have started to put between us and the world outside. We build on it: by going to school with the goal of getting a good job that will give us a good pay, that will enable us to raise a family, own a car, a house, a retirement plan and a burial plan. Then the cycle repeats itself with us doing the same thing to our children.
This book is obviously being marketed as a sequel to Antoine de St-Exupery's quintessential 1943 classic children's book "Le Petit Prince" (The Little Prince). Came out during the war, it talks about the lost values of the World War II generation. St-Exupery was a pilot and his plane was shut down by believed to be enemy plane somewhere in the Mediterranean in 1944.
I hope that this book becomes a classic too. Never mind if the dialogues have that Mitch Albom feel in them. The Little Prince came back now as a Young Prince. I just hope that the next books will not be a Teenager Prince and then a Bachelor Prince and then a Daddy Prince an then a Grandad Prince and then a Senile Prince and finally a Dead Prince. Because as it goes and goes, the magic of The Little Prince is diminished like his Rose that wilts no matter how we look through the heart to see what is invisible thus essential.
For what is essential is in the original and let's leave it as is, please.
