Ranch Rules #1

His Ranch, His Rules

Rate this book
Georgia Hamilton has done her best to keep her life together since her boyfriend of four years left her broken-hearted, but if she were being honest, she'd have to admit she isn't doing great. She's getting tipsy--if not drunk--more and more often, and now she's lost both her job and her apartment. So when an old friend sets her up with a position complete with room and board on a ranch run by a man who looks like he stepped out of a cowboy movie, she jumps at the chance.

But there's a catch, of course. Brody Jenkins is an old-fashioned man who believes in hard work, clean living, and firm-handed discipline. That means no drinking, and when she's caught with a bottle of alcohol, Georgia soon finds herself sobbing and promising to be good as she is very soundly spanked and then pouring her heart out as she is gently held in Brody's strong arms.

Brody's stern correction leaves Georgia blushing and sore yet deeply aroused, and she cannot help longing for him to make her his. Once he does, however, she soon learns the hard way that naughty girls can just as easily be punished with pleasure more intense than they can stand. But after a terrible misunderstanding creates a rift between them, will Brody prove to be the man Georgia has always needed, or will she end up leaving his ranch and his rules behind forever?

Publisher's Note: His Ranch, His Rules includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

This was my first book by this author. I did not expect to, yet I LOVED this book. Georgia was so relatable. I’ve been there with my heart broken, and her descent into alcohol overindulgence is so typical of what a lot of people experience. I loved how even though she was hurting, she didn’t have a victim mentality. She womaned up and owned her shortcomings.

Brody, oh my! He was everything I didn’t know I wanted to read about. He was sweet, but stern, understanding and nurturing, yet quick to judge. He was very hard on Georgia and he was unfair to her, but he made up for it.

This book was a fun escape. I cringed and chuckled while I read it. There were a few typos, but the story flowed well. The dialogue and banter were great. I’ll look for more from this author.

His Ranch, His Rules is an easy to read, low angst, somewhat steamy read. Georgia is a hot mess at the start of the book, and I liked how brave the author was in writing the heroine this way. We saw growth in her character and, with one exception (which I will return to later) I liked how she grew in strength and resilience.

Whilst the hero spanks the heroine for the first time really soon after they first met, it was entirely consensual. The book really suffered from a very "tell not show" narrated style of writing, this impacted on my connection with Brody, since the book is written entirely from Georgia's point of view. However this is perfect if you're looking for a light, sexy beach read with a side of spanking.

I loved Georgia's uncompromising attitude when Brody messed up and let her down, especially regarding his lack of trust. Now here is where me exception from earlier comes in. Brody not trusting Georgia was what really upset and hurt her, yet this was never addressed. I felt that Brody didn't truly earn his forgiveness. However I definitely enjoyed this book - hence the three stars.

A++ for the cover (wolf-whistle) and WAY hotter than the H’s Luke Bryant description from the book… moving on… I went in thinking this would be cowboy-smut because all the “spanking” talk, but it doesn’t really shake out that way.

Georgia has hit rock bottom after being dumped by her BF (Jake) after 4-yrs together. She’s turned into a miserable, irresponsible alcoholic, and loses her apartment and job all in the first chapter. Her friend sets her up with a job at his cousin Brody’s ranch. At first, she has reservations because he’s a “spanking man” but after some internet porn searches… she’s up for the challenge.

I felt the pacing was a smidge slow. There’s only about 150 pages to work with and it takes 35% for the couple to even meet, and 65% to get to the sexytime…ergo the non-smut label. There’s a teeny tiny bit of wannabe OW meddling, but it's totally safe. The spanking concept is more “loving discipline” than “kinky fuckery”; there’s plenty of sex, but it’s not graphic or kinky. It’s actually all pretty sweet.

Bottom Line- Not bad for mindless fluff. It would be a good “palate cleanser” after something heavy. All narrated from h's POV. There’s a Bridget Jones Diary vibe going on as she inputs her personal thoughts much the same as the movie. I felt the h was supposed to be quirky/funny/cute and highly entertaining, but at times it came off as immature and brainless. It's free to read with KU.

This was like the church lady does spanking. It was boring but I made it to the end. More useful ad a guide to being a vet tech. The mc’s don’t even meet until 30 %. That’s telling of a 134 page book. These cowboys are boring!

I had read two other books in this series that I really enjoyed and yet I never picked up the first one. I started with Boss Daddy because I seen a really good review of it and it seemed like something that I wanted to read and could do so as a stand alone. And I really enjoyed it so much that I went straight into Ranch Daddy because I really liked the character of Colton. Again, really enjoyed that instalment.

But for some reason I never really got that feeling of wanting to read more about Brody and Georgia. Then I thought it is lockdown and I need to read me so some feel good, country/ranch/cowboy romance and decided to give His Ranch, His Rules a try and oh my god I am so glad that I did. I have completely fallen in love with these two characters and the with the extended cast.

This book was everything I needed and more. I read this on my kindle but will be buying a physical copy for me shelves for when I need a little pick me up.

You can read the books in this series as stand-alones, but you will be missing out on a wonderful read if you pass up this first book in the series.

5 stars for His Ranch, His Rules.

Georgia was dumped and has been dealing with it by drinking too much. Happiness can't be found at the bottom of a bottle though. she finds herself banned from her favorite bar, evicted and fired. When her friend offers her a job working at his cousins ranch as a vet tech, she really has no other options. When she hears Brody, ranch owner, has a penchant for spanking, she can't help but be turned on. Things start off romantically, but slow, very slow and when she can't stand the frustration any longer, she finally confronts him and the chemistry is electrifying. But what will happen when Brody finds out Georgia has broken his strictest rule? Will he believe her or leave her feeling broken by another man? This is a great story about getting back up after feeling completely broken and finding what you really need to make your life complete. I hope the other brother's stories are in out future. I'm ready for more CLAS.

60%

Got 60% in before I just couldn’t go any further. Book started off really good if not a bit slow. But man, this chicks inner monologue just didn’t do it for me.
Swooooooooooooon - was used.
He spanks her within the first 4 hours of her arriving but yet weeks later all he’s done is kiss her on the forehead.
I just couldn’t force myself to finish this.

Brodie was a “spanking man” and Georgia needed discipline. The two couldn’t have been more perfect for each other. Now, I know as a strong woman I should take offense to a man taking a woman over his knee, literally, and spanking her for misbehaving. However, like the heroine in this story, I found it quite intriguing. Plus Brodie was a hottie! A Luke Bryan look-a-like, only better. Whoo! Where he at? Lol

I loved the storyline and how poor Georgia went into a downward spiral after Jake broke up with her. She needed to get herself together and the CLAS Ranch was just the place she needed.

The insta love affair between her and Brodie did not seem forced. It was so natural because it felt like they knew each other. The romantic inside me says their souls had met in a former life and found each other again.

I was pissed when Brodie didn’t believe her after that Bethany stunt. I was proud that Georgia didn’t let it break her. She was hurt and it burned, but she kept herself together. That’s the growth her character displayed and made me like her even more.

Good story!

First, a disclaimer: I read this when a newsletter I subscribe to offered it as a free serialized novel. Second, a note: the story includes spankings (adult) and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't read.

Vet Tech Georgia Hamilton hasn't been functioning well since her breakup with Jake. She's buried herself in booze to relieve the pain. Her friends and employer have had enough. Her roommate is evicting her and her boss was forced to fire her. Now, she not only needs a place to live, but a job as well. Her best friend, Ted -- with whose family Georgia lived after her parents' deaths -- lets her know about a job at a ranch his cousins own, telling her that the change of scenery and his oldest cousin's "old-fashioned" rules are just what she needs to get back on track. She agrees to a one-year commitment working on the CLAS (Clean Living and Sunshine) ranch as a vet tech.

Ted's cousin, Brody Jenkins, believes in hard work, clean living, and firm-handed discipline. He makes his rules clear -- he expects hard work; booze and other substances are not allowed on his ranch. Breaking any rules will be dealt with firmly. When he discovers Georgia has smuggled some airline bottles of alcohol onto the ranch, he uses his firm hand to deal with her. It turns out to be the cleansing event she needs to start over and thus begins their relationship.

Just when things are going great something happens that angers Brody. Georgia tries to explain, but Brody won't hear it -- "I don't believe you" and "We're done" come from his mouth. Georgia is devastated, but after Jake, she knows she deserves better. She won't let Brody's actions make her leave her job. She won't be happy, but will work out her year and deal with Brody as little as possible. Will Georgia and Brody be able to find thier HEA together?

I actually found myself liking this book -- even though it's about "a spanking man," as Georgia calls Brody (not usually my thing). I liked that the relationship didn't jump to sex so quickly, though Brody staked his claim right away, and that it was Georgia that pushed the issue. The story is sweet and I found myself smiling during parts of it -- Georgia's a hoot! I also liked that Brody respected Georgia's abilities. I found the whole story pretty believable and rooted for an HEA.

My only negatives come at the climactic (no pun intended) scenes of the story, which take place at Ted's wedding a few months after Georgia takes the job (and a couple of weeks after the breakup). Jake, who's a buddy of Ted's, attends and moves in on Georgia. I will put my thoughts in a spoiler holder, though they don't really spoil the story.

All in all it was a good story. I'd read more from the author.

His Rules, His Ranch is the first book in the Ranch Rules series by Shanna Handel. As the first book in her series, Ms. Handel not only introduces two dynamic lead characters but a cast of supporting characters. Readers get to know Georgia Hamilton and Brody Jenkins. Georgia is vet tech trying to deal with the deep betrayal from her long-term boyfriend, Jake. His cheating on her leaves her with deep emotional wounds causing her into a downward spiral. Finding herself homeless and jobless, Georgia tries grabs at a chance to change direction with a vet tech position at the CLAS (Clean Living and Surviving) ranch where she meets Brody Jenkins, the patriarch and owner of the CLAS ranch. Brody and his four brothers, along with his grandmother and mother, run the ranch. From the onset of their meeting, Brody and Georgia experience an instant attraction that they both fight against. Will they develop a relationship or will their personalities clash? Will Georgia be able to mend her broken heart?

Ms. Handel penned a remarkable character-driven plot. These two lead characters have a definite chemistry between them. Handel's plot line is well thought out and allows readers to witness how they evolve. She uses dialog and a dual point of view to build a palpable romantic tension. Her descriptive language creates vivid scenes. She adds suspense to her plot with the re-introduction of Jake, Gloria’s ex-boyfriend leading to a climactic scene. Once again, Ms. Handel penned a captivating read. Bravo, Ms. Handel!

I loved this new release from Shanna Handel. Georgia starts out broken, a lost boyfriend led her to alcohol, which resulted in the loss of her job, home and friends. Her irresponsible behavior in the beginning makes her character kind of tough to like. The author does really well with her progression from a somewhat unlikeable person, to a kinda likeable person, to a character that I was totally cheering on. Brody was a likeable character from the beginning, but once again the author did well slowly revealing his past to help the reader better understand the character.

The story flowed well, with a nice mix of drama and humor. The romance was sweet and the sex smoking hot. I was sad to see this one end, but glad to know there are three other Jenkins brothers that will hopefully one day get their own story.

This book is refreshingly entertaining! Georgia is a warts and all heroine who has hit rock bottom. She fell apart when her boyfriend dumped her while she was envisioning white picket fences. Her drinking got so bad that she lost her job and her apartment and the support of her flatmate, who to be fair, could not tolerate the self destructive behaviour anymore and had to give her a wake up call. It turns out be a very good decision as it led Georgia to Brody's ranch where she had to follow his rules and stay sober. She's aware that he is a "spanking man" which intrigues her more than it horrifies her. Emotional ups and downs abound but it left me smiling. This was a really great read and I was so wondering when I picked it up whether it would be sweet or dirty and I know I was specifically hoping for moments of both. Georgia’s life is a mess losing her job, kicked out of her apartment and the end of her relationship and to top it off drinking way to much to cope. Her Redemption comes in the way of a new job offer in a ranch run by Brody but he has strict rules like no alcohol. These two feel the sparks they feel even though their first meeting is strange. I will let you read to figure out whether you get both sweet and sexy.

I loved this book. Georgia fell apart when her boyfriend of four years broke up with her. She started drinking, lost her job and her best friend evicted her from their apartment. Her friend Ted told her about a job at his family's ranch. Brody had strict rules at the ranch, no drinking, no smoking and when Georgia breaks the rules the first day he is ready to take her in hand. This is a steamy, romantic read with loveable characters. This was a hot little read. After hitting the bottle too much after being dumped Georgia finds herself jobless and needing a new place to live her friend gets her a job working at his cousin's Brody's ranch as a vet tech. These two have a lot of chemistry but when he takes things slow she becomes frustrated and confronts him will this get her the spanking she is after? While I really liked Brody I have to admit I did not think much of Georgia she was really annoying at times but I did like the chemistry between them.

Entertaining short about a desperate young woman, Georgia who goes to podunk Wyoming for a job and a place to live. She went off the end and into a bender when her boyfriend of four years breaks up with her. Her boss fires her when she goes to work hungover and reeking of booze. Her best friend Ted has a cousin Brody who needs a vet tech at his ranch with a year commitment. She wasn’t counting on falling in love with her new boss. Enjoyable!

I always love a good sexy cowboy romance and this is a very good one. It is quite the compelling read. And an amazing, exciting read with a great storyline. It is a well written with a consistent well developed plot. There is drama, humour, witty banter, spanking, and sexy cowboys to look forward to in this story. The characters are strong and great together; their chemistry is intense, hot, and undeniable with sex scenes that are very descriptive and off the charts hot! Definitely recommended. The author did a great job of introducing the characters in this book. Each one had its own vibe and made their presence in the story known. I totally enjoyed reading this book. Ted was the perfect friend. Brody was the perfect alpha man...strong in convictions but still capable of admitting when he was wrong. Georgia was perfectly written from beginning to end. Highly recommend if you like a little spanking in your romance.

WHAT’S IT GOING TO BE? SWEET OR DIRTY?

I enjoyed this story of Georgia Hamilton and the journey along the way where she finally ends up at CLAS Ranch when everything in her life falls apart. Hitting rock bottom, it will be with the help of her best friend, Ted, she will be hired on at the ranch as a vet tech.

A four-year relationship with Jake will end suddenly, and Georgia isn’t coping well. She is drinking heavily, neglecting things, and putting a strain on her friendships. In one day, she will be told by her roommate, Regina; she must move out at the end of next month and get fired by her boss, Darlene, at Vet and Pet Spa for coming in smelling like alcohol.

Ted will come to Georgia’s rescue and even make inquiries of his cousin for a job as a vet tech on a large ranch that caters to guest and weddings. What doesn’t work out at first, will finally fall in her lap a month later. Shyly, Ted will explain to her about his cousin's propensity of spanking. Now Georgia must decide if she can live with that—and the answer is yes.

“I mean, spanking man as in—he spanks women. But the bottom line is—no pun intended—the spanking comes with other traits in the relationship. These men are incredibly devoted to their woman. Protective, possessive, and treat the ladies in their lives like queens.”

“Serves me right that I screw up my life so badly the only option I have is to move off to someplace in the middle of nowhere without a drop of alcohol in sight and—no offense—a crazy religious, bossy, straightedge sadist running the show.”

The story will bring out more about Georgia’s life, her situation, and her downfall. It is tough love from her roommate and boss, with the support of her friend to help her find a new niche in her life. Going to work at Clean Living and Sunshine Ranch is just what she needs to help her get her life back on track.

Brody Jenkins is a man with high standards, and he isn’t shy about what he expects, especially while on his ranch. He has a strict no alcohol, smoking, or drugs are allowed at CLAS. If an employee breaks the rules, it is grounds for immediate dismissal. The story will bring to light why Brody took this stand.

The plot will bring Georgia to working at CLAS, but it will come with issues from the very beginning. Convincing Brody to give her a chance will come with discipline that she agrees to accept. While most of those that work at the ranch get along well with Georgia, there will be animosity from one person towards her that will eventually lead to serious problems.

Getting involved with the boss has it’s good and bad sides, and Brody and Georgia will go through ups and downs. When a major issue arises and heated words are spoken, ‘were done,’ shatters her once again. Now, what will become of Brody, Georgia, and the job that she loves? The story has several spankings along with explicit sex scenes. It is also about relationships, trust, respect, dominance, and submission.

I knew this book was going to be goofy going into it, but I needed a break between paranormal romance novels so I picked it up on a lark.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s completely readable and if you find alcoholism and self destruction and a heroine who acts like a bratty teenager than this will certainly be up your alley. If you like a book that is written entirely from one POV and that switches to some weird diary format in the second half, this book will keep you entertained. If you like a rushed romance between a man of indeterminate age who doesn’t drink or swear but who likes anal sex and spanking and a youngish woman with no real goals or purpose in life than this will keep you riveted to your seat.

Me? Not so much. Just because it’s a kinky/naughty romance novel doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve to be written well.

The relationship between the h/H is just weird and clunky and awkward...it’s not sexy at all. Even the spanking parts were just....weird. And I’ve read some off the wall books, okay?

I finished it, because like I said before it’s readable...but barely. And all the cringing I did has given me an eye twitch.

Major pet peeves:

1. Do not describe characters by using “looks just like Luke Bryan” because a. Not everyone knows who that is and b. Now I’m thinking of Luke Bryan and not this character you want me to envision. It’s lazy writing.

2. The diary thing? Again....lazy. Half the book happened and I had to read about it second hand from a first person POV book....it was weird and what is she five years old? The diary thing was childish and a way for the author to push a story along without having to actually write it. Is Microsoft Word charging by the letter now? Was there a word shortage the year this was written? Why couldn’t the book be longer?

3. The cop out explanation at the end? (No spoilers)....that was the lamest thing I’ve ever heard.

I get it, kinky books are money makers. But, at least try to write something worthwhile. This story fell completely flat.

An Awesome Book!!!

I loved reading His Ranch, His Rules. All about Brody Jenkins a cowboy who runs the family ranch CLAS and uses firm-handed discipline & Georgia Hamilton a young VET Tech who is looking for a way to clean up her act and gets hired onto a ranch in Little Peak, Wyoming for one year. Her boss is her friend Ted’s cousin and he’s hard working, honest, clean living & firm-handed with discipline for all. The Author wrote a story about a young women who has been thru hell since her boyfriend of 4 years dumped her. She lost her job, her apartment and became a drunk, she needs Brody’s discipline! Read about Brody & Georgia and watch fire works explode around them! I loved reading this book, and I’m sure you will enjoy it as well!!!

Georgia is hitting bottom after breaking up with Jake. She is drinking too much, being a bad house guest and bad employee. She has lost her job and housing. Her one offer is from her best friend Ted to be a vet tech at his cousin’s ranch — Clean Living and Sunshine.

Brody is old fashioned and a boss with rules. Plus he and his brothers spank their girl friends. The attraction between Brody and Georgia is strong. Within a week, she has been spanked and he has marked her as his woman.

The ranch also hosts events and weddings. One of the event employee’s is jealous of Georgia and targets her. Brody is too slow to take Georgia’s side over Bethany’s.

Loved this book. Riding the Church bus will never be the same.

Somehow I managed to read the other books in this series before I came back to book 1. So glad I finally read it, since I really enjoyed it. Both Georgia and Brody have things in their past that have effected their behaviour in the present - Georgia's being more recent & obvious. Following a bad breakup Georgia's life is spirally out of control, then she starts working for Brody who is a self-declared 'spanking man'. I know that this style of book isn't to everyone's taste but I loved it. I loved the care that the characters demonstrated for each other & the internal humour that Georgia demonstrated. This book was a wonderful read that dealt with some harsh realities but with a HEA.

Awesome love story!

This book makes me feel like it could actually happen in real life. Not like some story book romance. It was so good! i couldn't put it down once i started. *POSSIBLE SPOILERS* I love how Georgia finally realized she was going down a wrong path and turned her life around! Such a touching book in more ways than one lol. Not only does it touch your heart but it will scorch your panties. They naughty and spanking scenes were so freaking hot! Handel always has the best sexy scenes and she did not disappoint in this book!

Such a CLASy couple

Georgia's broken heart leads her to make a mess of her life. Her friend Ted hooks her up with a year-long gig on his cousin Brody's ranch. The middle of nowhere should be far enough away from trouble. But alas no, as Georgia finds herself in line for a punishment on day one. She never expected to love the way the broody cowboy makes her cheeks redden. Or that she'd sign up to be his girlfriend for the full Brody experience. Steamy AF but the editing could be better.

Holy cow...... what a scorching hot read. I absolutely loved this book, Georgia is on a down hill solid as life keeps knocking her down. She’s given a chance to a clean start where she meets Brody, and he promptly gets her in line after a good ol fashion spanking. This fast paced book will leave you hot and hoping for your own “spanking man”!!!

I enjoyed this book, the storyline was realistic. It was not overly filled with sex scenes although it could have used a couple more. The relationship between Georgia and Brody played out at a good pace. The only part I thought that should have gone differently was seeing Jake at the wedding, he was allowed to be too presumptuous and Georgia became spineless and fickle as if any man giving her attention deserved her time or energy. Overall this is worth the read.

Totally Good
A few spelling errors that don't distract from the story at all.

So Georgia is described as fiesty, which we see in her much more after she dodges an alcohol addiction. However, this still gets her into trouble with her new boss, "the spanking man." And, oh girls, does he, Brodie, know how to spank! I creamed my panties right along with Georgia. What a "spanking" good romp this story is.

Too, too good

Wow! Loved the book. A mess load of laughter and tears. Romance and fun. This is a winner. Georgia goes to a ranch to be a vet tech after breaking up from her boyfriend of four years. There she runs into boss man and sparks fly. The romance takes off. Her diary entries are absolutely fantastic and the interaction between them is so much fun. A great read and a wonderful hea.
