Back in high school, the girl next door spent a serendipitous night in my arms. But she wasn’t my type or really up to my level.
So I walked away not knowing her secret—our secret.
Years later, I’m still at the top of my game, ruling my own chunk of the world.
She walks into my office a different woman. Strong, sexy, and dead set on revenge.
I need to walk away again, but I can’t. She’s a different person, and yet, all the things that first had me taking a chance with her pull me back in—deeper this time.
She’s going to wreck my life, one bad decision at a time, and I’m going to let her.
The fact that the little man who calls her mom acts like me stops me in my tracks. He even loves the same things I do.
Surely not.
No damn way I’ve been a selfish bastard and haven’t considered the possibilities of our night together so long ago, but it’s true.
He’s mine, and I’m instantly in love with both of them.
I need one more chance, and I’ll do anything to get it.
Have we met? No? Well it's time to end that tragedy.

Yep. A turtle. You read that right. Don't be jealous.

Stupid characters with no real issues but the ones take make up in their heads.
Hiding a kid for no reason! Honestly, no reason other than pride! Sure, fine, she was 17 (not an excuse) but her parents were grown ass people, wth are they doing condoning this childish bullshit?!
Normally I would do a blog post, but this review will be short, so I'm doing it straight in goodreads.
My Last Chance sounded like a promising second chance romance, and in some ways it was. But the story itself was really flat. There was no character development AT ALL. The whole story seemed super rushed and I have to say that the synopsis really doesn't sell the book well. Lana is a single mom to Peter - Peter isn't much of a character in the story. The summary is making us believe the whole story is about revenge, but that didn't really happen.
There also isn't much of a story in the present. They meet, Sean asks Lana out after she pitches to him, she has "revenge" sex with him but still continues to see him. She doesn't tell him about his son. He doesn't figure it out.
Sean is a good guy who is flawed. But his brother is strugling with alcoholism and he's worried about him. That part of him was sweet. The rest-eh.
The book was overly detailed and long. I found myself skipping a lot of it. Overall, this was an ok read. I probably wouldn't recommend.
SWEET, SEXY, SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE!!! Title: My Last Chance Author: Weston Parker Designation: Full-Length, Standalone, No Cliffhanger, Contemporary Romance #newadult #secondchance #secretbaby My Rating: Four Sexy Stars**** °°MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS°° I became a Weston Parker fan last year after reading Captain Hotness, which I absolutely adored and recommended to several friends. I've purchased at least a dozen more of his books in the last 12 months and loved them all - until now. I didn't dislike My Last Chance, but I didn't love it either. Originally, I planned to give this book a three-star rating but after giving it some thought, I changed my mind and gave it four, because it's actually a solid read. But it just didn't have that wow factor I've come to expect from Weston Parker. You know what I'm talking about, that OMG! I CAN'T STOP READING AND WANT TO TELL EVERYONE ABOUT THIS BOOK. It's probably my least favorite of all Weston Parker's books. Now I'm NOT saying it wasn't a good book, because it was. So Weston Parker fans, don't get your panties in a twist; I'm just a fan expressing her opinion. Technically speaking, this book was near perfect with a gorgeous cover, attractive formatting, and very few errors. It was also sweet, sexy, heartwarming, fast-paced, easy to follow, and well written with a dual his and her first-person narrative. The dialogue was smart, snappy, at times humorous, and well executed. But for me personally, this story fell short in a couple of areas. I didn't like the author's spin on the story arc. I do enjoy second chance/secret child tropes, but I didn't enjoy the direction Parker took with this story and the way it was executed, and that's partly due to my disconnect with the two protagonists: Sean Burbank and Lana Daniels. Contemporary romance is almost always character driven rather than plot driven. So to be the real driving force that propels the story forward, the characters must be engaging and relatable. Sadly, Sean and Lana left much to be desired, at least for me personally.
Twenty-four-year-old Sean Burbank was the wealthy CEO of his own marketing company, Burbank Marketing. First of all, it was difficult for me to believe that Sean had become the wealthy, mega-successful CEO and owner of the top rated marketing firm in the Seattle area only two years after finishing college. It just wasn't realistic. Secondly, I couldn't seem to connect with Sean as the hero of the story. He certainly didn't exhibit very many heroic qualities. He was portrayed as a hard-working, hard-playing ladies man, a total Don Juan who'd never been in love nor had a serious relationship. He played fast and loose with women's hearts, which is also how he acted in high school. As the story progressed, Sean came across as cocky, arrogant, immature, thoughtless, unprofessional, and self-absorbed with very few redeeming qualities until the very end of the story. Yes, I said unprofessional. Canceling and rewriting a contract for personal reasons, ones not remotely related to business, not once but twice, is very immature and unprofessional. And I flat out didn't like him. Different strokes for different folks and all that. Now I'm not saying I don't like cocky men, but they, at least, must possess a few good qualities other than a fat wallet, fast car, fancy home, huge ego, and large package.
Twenty-three-year-old Lana Daniels, aka Lana Nullenberg, was a beautiful nerd girl with a degree in web development. She was also an aspiring smartphone/web app designer/developer and single mother of an adorable six-year-old son named Peter. At the beginning of the story, Lana was feisty, witty, snarky, sassy, professional, mature, hardworking, and highly intelligent. But after unexpectedly seeing Sean for the first time in six years, Lana quickly morphed into a giggling, immature, insecure, unprofessional basket case. Granted, she had a very good reason for being off her game during her interview with Sean since he was her secret baby daddy. Yup, Lana and Sean had been next door neighbors for most of their childhood and yes, Lana had a secret crush on him, but they never dated. When Sean was a senior and Lana a junior, they hooked up for just one night of sex in his parents' hot tub. It was unplanned and not really a date. Afterward, Sean asked Lana to keep it a secret and then completely ignored her until he left for college a few weeks later. He never returned home, never looked back, and never thought about Lana again. Young Lana had been a virgin and Sean's cavalier, indifferent behavior and attitude crushed her teenage heart. But here's the real clincher - he 'supposedly' didn't recognize Lana six years later when she lands an interview with his company to pitch her new app, Parent Assist, directly to him. At the time she requested the interview, she had no idea Sean owned the company but recognized him instantly and decided to get a little revenge by not immediately revealing her former identity as Lana Nullenberg. Sean and Lana were both guilty of some very unflattering behavior. However, there was some character growth for each of them as the story progressed, and Sean finally redeemed himself near the end by admitting he had known Lana's real identity at the interview. But for me, it was too little too late, especially after the way Sean treated Lana when she finally admitted Peter was his son. Which brings me to another thing I didn't like about the story - Sean's attitude and cruel behavior toward Lana after she told him the truth. I wanted to slap him upside the head and almost threw my Kindle against the wall. He was the one that asked her to keep their encounter a secret, then ignored and left her with a surprise, non-returnable parting gift. He should have been groveling at her feet and begging for her forgiveness, rather than the way it was written with Lana as the bad guy, apologizing and begging to be forgiven for not telling him. Duh, he asked her to keep it secret, so she did. He was just as much at fault as Lana. I don't blame her one bit for not trusting him with the truth about her son. And by pretending he didn't recognize Lana, he was also lying by omission. Not kosher, Weston Parker!
There were a couple of other things that bothered me. Sean's brother Tyler was originally described as being 19 and then a few days later, he was 20. That inconsistency should have been caught in the final edit/proofread. But I guess my biggest gripe was, what I consider, two plot holes. First, the reader is never told what happened with Peter and the bully at school. Sean's advice to Peter during their first conversation was an important bonding moment, even if neither realized they were father and son, and should have been treated as such, but it was just dropped. I was truly disappointed. Second, there was no scene included in the story where Peter was told that Sean was his dad. It was glossed over completely. Peter was such an important part of this story, and I feel a little cheated. Just kidding, folks, but I think you get my point. And FYI, I always get my money's worth with a Weston Parker book and overall, it was a good read. So, did like it? Yes, I did. Would I recommend it? You bet but only for adult readers, since it does contain explicit language and steamy, dreamy sex. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! ANd finally, was I entertained? Completely! Let's face it, it takes a talented writer to get a reader all riled up and involved in a story like I became while reading My Last Chance. It doesn't really matter how I wanted to see the story play out, because this was Weston Parker's vision for his story and not mine! It definitely got my dandruff up and made me have a reaction. But isn't that what it's all about? Isn't it the author's goal to spark a fire in a reader's soul, causing us to feel and experience a variety of emotions while reading a story? Obviously, Weston Parker did exactly that and did it exceptionally well. So great job, Weston Parker!
So, I tried to listen to this one for a tour. But my problem is that the guy doesn't even remember this girl that he slept with and got pregnant even after they lived next door to each other for several years and had been friends before he got to high school and became obviously a total male slut. I'm sorry, but I have an issue with that. So I just couldn't buy into the story enough to get into it.
When Lana approaches the biggest PR firm in town to market her app,, she doesn't expect to see her teenage crush, the boy who left her after a one night stand. Lana is a great character, a ballsy intelligent young woman. Sean is a bit more predictable, but enjoyable too. It's interesting reading how these two people cope with their past and create a better future.
I do like the story overall. The end, while generally satisfying, felt a little too abrupt and could've used two more chapters between the last chapter and the epilog to develop the relationship between Sean and Peter and the overall family dynamic.
Part of the thing I love about a secret baby book is watching the father bond with their kid. I know that isn't romantic or necessarily part of romance but I enjoy it and if done correctly can be sexy - seeing a man be a good father and bonding with their kid. It gets to me. That did not happen in this book. She doesn't even tell him that her son is his kid until 74% into the book and not because she wanted to - he figured it out and called her out on it. That annoys me to no end. Especially since they had been working together and seeing each other for weeks at that point. But my issues with this book began well before I realized she wasn't going to fess up. So many issues. Her name change - dumb. Him saying that he did recognize her - don't believe it. When that was said, it was like rewriting the story - not believable; even though I did have a hard time believing that he didn't recognize her. Yeah I know - I am not making sense, just like the book. I couldn't relate or connect to either one of these characters and wanted to DNF a few times but kept pushing myself to get to the reveal. That was disappointing so I should have given up. I hate not liking a book but this was was a miss for me.

Although I found most of the story interesting, Sean was an arrogant and selfish playboy who felt like Lana owed him something.
Sean took Sadie to the prom and after she drunkenly threw up on him, he dumped her pretty quickly. 15 minutes later, he has high school student, Lana, in his hot tub, having unprotected sex. The next day, he runs off to college, like the Hounds of Hell are chasing him. He doesn't even take a minute to hug Lana and say goodbye. Lana always had a huge crush on Sean and then he leaves her heartbroken.
Lana had to drop out of high school and take care of her son, with only her parent's help. And yet Sean has the nerve to be angry when he learns he has a six year old son. How many phone calls did he make to see if Lana was ok or how many letters did he write so that Lana didn't feel so used? OH! That would be zero!
I don't understand women who feel they are "obligated" to tell these disinterested and disconnected men that they have fathered a child. Sean should have known the possibility existed, but he was so busy leaving Lana behind, he could care less.
Dumb! H had sex with h when she was 17 & said let keep it a secret because she wasn’t his type. h got pregnant. Years later she ran into him at a business meeting and the first thing that she does is go out with him and have sex with him as revenge. How the fuck is having sex with someone you have a child with revenge??? Now she has glowed up and she is his type and they date and she still hasn’t told him about his child. I hate this concept and it makes zero sense. DNF!!
This book was better than expected. The story is told from both Lana and Sean's povs. Lana is knocked up at the age of 17 by her next door neighbor Sean, who she has had a crush on since she was a child. After he takes her innocence, Sean tells Lana to keep what they did a secret. He walks out of her life and she doesn't know what to do or think when she discovers she is pregnant. Six years later she walks into Sean's life and decides she wants revenge for how he left her. After getting her revenge, Lana thinks that's it but Sean is determined to get her to work with him. She does agree but starts falling for him all over again the more time she spends with him. When he discovers she has a son, he doesn't think anything of it until Peter's age hits him and he realizes that he could be Peter's dad. When he confronts Lana on it, things go horribly wrong between them. Having to deal with finding out he has a son and trying to deal with his brother Tyler's alcoholism, Sean feels pulled into so many different directions. I was expecting more from the ending but it was ok
This is a sweet secret baby, kind of second chance romance and the first one by this author I take a chance on (well, a duo as it seems). Lana and Sean have known each other for most of their lives, until their one night together. After that, they go their separate ways and she is left with a reminder of their night and a lot of hurt and resentment.
Years later, they find each other again under different circumstances and he has no idea about the secret she is keeping from him.
They were sweet together, even though I missed some deep development about their feelings towards each other. Their day to day lives, how they operated and acted was also not what compatible with their age and I struggled with that a little. Besides, even though Lana made some questionable choices, she was only half to blame and I expected more groveling from Sean (or any groveling at all).
Despite all that, the reading was sweet and quite enjoyable. It was also cool reading a book from a male author perspective. I'm definitely trying more books by him.
Was NOT feeling this book... Definitely wasn't feeling Lana's character, the decision she made and how she goes about things with Sean... I'm usually all for the bad b*tch attitude when needed but her attitude was annoying.. She should have been mad at herself... And yes I get that she was young when she made this HUGE decision and her parents fought with her to change her mind, but NO... It made me look at her different and not in a good light... Sean was ok, nothing to write home about or get upset about..
The overall book felt off.. The issue with Sean's brother and how it took up so much of his chapters then turned around to be fixed so quickly... Sean and Lana falling into what they became, felt too quickly..
I didn't get the "feels" or have any connection to this story...
Lana and Sean have lived next door, to each other since, she was right-years-old and he, is nine. They even played, street hockey, together. That’s right, Lana has always been fearless until he went to high school. Lana’s infatuation with, Sean only grew. The thing, in the summer, before she is to go to high school, which is the year after, Sean, she grew to five-six and gains, more weight than anyone expected, especially the kids at school.
Carrying with it, terrible teasing. Along with it, puberty, and Sean not talking to her, looking at her, and making her feel like she is invisible. It wouldn't be the last time either. Because the night of his senior prom he takes another girl as his date, but she becomes sh*t faced throwing up, on him. When here, he had the whole house to himself. After taking his date home, he sees, Lana on her porch then, he asks her to keep him company, at the hot tub.
This is where we as a reader need a big red button to push, so we would be able to warn the character. Yeah! You guessed it, one thing leads to another, and bam! When they come off their euphoria, he shames her by saying, ‘Let’s just keep this between us.’ Had she not been suffering from his friendship abandonment and being teased for the last three years she would have told him to ‘F’ off. Yet, could she really, he was her crush, since forever.
Fast forward, she has become more than efficient in life matters. She finished high school, maybe not with her senior class, she finished college with a degree in web development and moved over to app development instead. Her best achievement of all besides buying her own, apartment, is being an excellent mother to her son, Peter. Her parents, sister Lanie, and Denise have been a great team of support. Hence, the evolution of the app she has created.
Finding the marketing firm to represent her best interest along with the projects can be tricky. Finding the one she walks into was done with a great deal of research. But oops, forget to check and see who owns it. You got it! See where this roller coaster story takes you. See how two of his good friends, Amber and Brennan try to be his voice of reason, but also the ones that guide him through the mind fields, of his making. Also, when it comes down to it, with Tyler, and him, who is saving who?
I love second chance storylines, especially the ones that show remorse and redemption. This did show all that but I never got ‘attached’ to the characters. Why? There were too many pages devoted to ’bedroom’ scenes and not enough to the plot line.
Here we have the ‘boy next door’ situation. Boy and girl are great buddies growing up, but when they hit those teen years things fall apart. One is the popular jock and the other is the wallflower. They make one final connection on prom night and never see each other again till six years later.
And…. the past comes back to haunt them… both of them.
During those six years, a LOT happens and as fate would have it, they meet again. One wants revenge, the other is use to women falling all over him, figuratively speaking and literally too. That girl next door is now a single mother with a good head on her shoulders. He’s now a successful businessman who knows how to mix business with pleasure.
👁OBSERVATIONS 👁
It was easy to understand why 17 year old Lana did what she did. And it was easy to see her wanting to put Sean in his proper place when she later saw him. But, what she did just cheapened her, rather than setting him straight. Did she even think of her son when exacting her ‘revenge’?
And Sean was no better. He took pride in his playboy ways and even acted like he didn’t recognize Lana. I doubt people change that much in just six years. After all, they were best childhood friends, played street hockey together daily and, yes, things changed between them but they still saw each other pretty much every day…. at school and home.
This had the premise of being a really good story if only pages had been written developing characters rather than random acts of way too many intimate encounters. I literally set aside time for this book. But it just didn’t draw me in like I thought it would. I’m not a big fan of bedroom gymnastics and this was loaded with them. So, I ended up skimming most of this book.
Can one night of teenage wanting and lust change a young woman's life forever? You bet it can! And it did!
For the fictional character, Lana💃💋, in this book, her whole life is turned inside out, upside down, and sideways by a one time virginal fling with Sean🐺🍆🌋, the older neighbor boy she had always had a huge crush on.
He goes on his self absorbed merry way, and never knows. Lana💃💔 is stuck with the aftermath and the decisions, and all the responsibilities, joys, and sorrows, of pregnancy and motherhood👶.
The book is all about the aftermath, six years later......
Lana and Sean were next door neighbors, they had a one nightstand that left her pregnant and alone after he left for college. Six years later they meet again when Lana is pitching her Parent App to Sean's company Burbank Marketing. Lana realizes he's still a player and decides to get even for him leaving her all those years ago. This was an emotional rollercoaster ride. The story was written well and had a great plot, good characters and a interesting storyline. If you like second chance romance you will enjoy this book. I voluntarily received an advanced arc copy for an honest review.
I am pretty sure I have read one of Weston's books before??! Gotta find it ... think think, think! great read. pulls at your heartstrings tons. so sweet. I wish folks wouldn't keep secrets though. they always get them into trouble some how!!! nuts! I will check out more from Weston soon enough. ( ;
She hated him but had sex with with him and still hated him? Chapter 30? He finds out he's the father. Neither character drew me in. Just not realistic.
My Last Chance it the second Weston Parker book I've read in as many days. Hey, when there's a couple of inches of snow falling every hour and the temperature is in the single digits there's nothing like a good book to help you pass the hours. Anyway, I did really like this book just as I liked the first one. There was one similarity between the two books that really stood out. In both books the heroine does something that nearly destroys the growing relationship between herself and the hero just as it's really starting to take off. And in both books the heroine has to tearfully ask for forgiveness. I don't believe in all of the modern romance novels I've read over the past few years I can ever remember a case where it's the heroine who needs to ask forgiveness before she can get her H.E.A. I don't know if this was just a coincidence between the two Parker books I've read but I wonder if this is because Parker, the author is a man, (an anomaly among romance writers) and isn't as keen on always making the male m.c. the one who screws up as female writers seem to be? At any rate like the first book the story was well written with plenty of emotional drama, romance and steamy sex. And like the previous Parker book I read it was in need of better proof reading before it was released. Not so much as to ruin the reading enjoyment as it just says somebody was a tad careless and didn't place a high enough priority in making sure the manuscript was clean before it was published. I'm going to nitpick here but there was one scene towards the end of the book that just didn't make any sense to me. Sean is a business man and spends a lot of time in expensive suits. I get that. But one evening he and Lana go out for dinner and dancing and she talks about when they get back to her place, how sexy he is loosening his tie. I thought it was odd that he was wearing formal wear out on his date but whatever. But then in the same scene she talks about getting him out of his jeans. So they went out to dinner and dancing and he war a shirt and tie and jeans? If you're looking for another romance novel where you can cheer for the two m.c. s to find their H.E.A. feel a little heartache, some joy and some heat, this is another Weston Parker novel you'll most likely enjoy reading.
Not quite the story I was expecting, but good nevertheless
After reading the description to this book AND even the title of the book, I was expecting a bit of a different storyline. Due to this, it wasn't quite what I wanted, so that's the only reason is 4* instead of 5.
** SOME SPOILERS AHEAD** By the title of the book and description on Amazon, I expected Sean (the one who knocked up Lana) to find out that he was a father years later and to feel bad about what happened. That he would want to try to win Lana over so he could be a part of her and her child's life after messing up when he was younger. Instead, it was more than halfway in that he discovered the truth, and he didn't react the way I expected him to. Neither he nor Lana did, actually. **SPOILER** He was mad at her for never telling him, and she felt guilty. It had sounded like he was a bit of a player in high school, though, and that he was just messing around with whoever he could that night. If I had been Lana, I'd be tempted to keep it from him, too. It seemed in her mind that he was immature, a flirt / player, and that's not an influence you need for your child. He was upset that he was never given a chance, and while he says he understood in the end why she didn't tell him, I felt her reasoning was different than what it should have been. Or if it wasn't, she didn't say it. Sure, he grew up to be a good guy, though at the beginning, it STILL sounded like he was a player unless he was just acting the part. Another thing that bugged me was that she never told him he had been a virgin at the time. He also didn't tell her that for whatever reason, that time meant more to him than he let anyone know (as he and his friend Brennan said). If it did, why did he never keep in touch with her? Yet another reason I don't blame her for never telling him.
The story was good. It had a fantastic ending, and I really did like Sean and Lana both (particularly Sean). It just wasn't QUITE what I expected or wanted.
(3.5 Stars) Every now and then, I get in the mood for a cheesy romance novel. After reading the general synopsis for "My Last Chance" I thought that it would fit the bill. It is exactly as advertised: love regained.
Lana Nullenburg was a quiet girl growing up. On the other hand, her next door neighbor, Sean Burbank, was the boy every girl in school wanted as a boyfriend. They went to prom together and she gave up her virginity to him. After that night they never saw each again and she became pregnant during her senior year.
Going forward six years, Lana is an software app developer and has designed a new product that will help parents keep track of the children's busy schedules and lives. She has an appointment with a advertising/ marketing firm and is hoping this will be her big break. When she walks into the office she sees none other that Sean Burbank, the father of her son, Peter. Sean doesn't recognize her and she has decided that she will not let her past get in the way of a good business deal until Sean pulls a sleazy move on her. Now, all bets are off and she is about to teach him a lesson.
This read was so predictable every step of the way. Why didn't Lana match the name Burbank with her past or at least look into it further? Why didn't Lana's parents insist she tell Sean's parents about her son? Yes, there were a few twists and turns on the sideline stories such as Sean's alcoholic brother. But the author left us hanging in the end on that front because she never reveals his brother's reaction to having a nephew.
This wasn't a stellar read for me because everyone is just too darn perfect. Lana's parents and sister are perfect. They say all of the right things and encouraging words. Lana is perfect: she is beautiful, great shape, smart etc. No hammerhead toes or warts (LOL). This made this book just a little too perfect. I wish it had more grit instead of so much sugar. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. I just didn't love it. Read it for yourself and decide.
This is such a Spoiler alert but I personally don't like to read books where the fmc didn't even try to tell the dad. It's a pet peeve of mine and if I had known beforehand, I probably wouldn't have read the book. Unfortunately I didn't know so I'm invested in it cuz it's good writing but in the back of my mind I'm like dogging out the fmc wanting to slap her for being selfish. I get she feels remorse but that doesnt erase the past. Also Not only did she keep it from the dad she straight up lied to her son saying he ran off like wtf thats some horrible parenting. The synopsis led me to believe he'd found out alot sooner than he did, literally he didnt find out until 72% in, and she didn't even tell him he had to ask her. Then she pulls the poor me bs and cries but she brought it on herself idk why tf she's acting put out cuz he wouldn't let her explain. The last 25% I'm just skimming because at this point I hate her and I dislike how everything went down. Idk that's just Me though. A few last complaints i have (yes i know ive had a crap ton already but these are the last 2 i swear!) Is we didnt get them telling peter that seans his dad and we didnt get sean telling his brother hes a uncle, i think most people would of enjoyed seeing that if they liked the book. I didnt much care for the book but i know theres probably a few and they probably felt cheated from the experience. I'd rate it a 2.5 star dropped to a 2 star.

This book was absolutely amazing from its well developed storyline to the main characters, Lana and Sean. She’s an app developer who has just designed one for parent and he is the owner of one of Seattle’s most successful marketing firms. Lana sets up an appointment to go there to discuss having the firm to help her get her app on the market. Imagine her surprise to find that Sean is the owner, not only that, but he is also who took her virginity when she was 17, and impregnated her. He went off to business school, leaving her to be homeschooled her last year of high school. She’s changed much in the six years since her son Peter was born. Now she’s independent and strong, slim and stunning. He’s grown into a tall, handsome rogue and it appears he doesn’t recognize her. She devises a plan that is sure to reject him and hurt him just as he hurt her when he ignored her after their first sexual encounter. It’s a well written book as these two find sexual pleasure and she seems to make him a better man. I fell in love with Lana and Sean and their son, Peter. The writing is superb and this romance is heartwarming and emotional as a young woman learns to love the man she has hated for the last six years and a man learns about the son he fathered but never met until the boy is six years old.
I have to admit it started kinda slow but as the story went on it just kept getting better and the toward the end it was so heartwarming I cried. Lana starts out a a girl it to pretty kind of a bloodwork need with low self esteem who has a huge crush on the boy next door Sean who's the captain of the basketball team and the most popular guy in high school. She thinks she'd never have a chance with him but then on prom night while she's sitting on her porch writing in her journal Sean pulls up to his house with his prom date expecting to get laid but his date is so drunk she pukes all over him. I laughed my ass off. When he noticed finally notices Lana and see her for the first time, he invites her over and what he does made me absolutely hate him. As the story goes on you get to really know both characters and things start to unravel in both their lives. Lana has a plan to repay Sean and I freakin loved it. Lana's little boy Peter is adorable. He really loved his mom and Lana is an amazing mother. When things start to heat up between Sean and Lana, WOW, do they heat up and it was freakin Smokin Hot! I really liked this book alot. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
There were a lot of things I really liked about this book, and a few things I didn't. One negative, was that Sean was a jerk a little too long. The reader didn't see his soft underbelly at all in the first 1/3 of the book, so I was really questioning if I wanted him to have an HEA. He obviously had it, because a true jerk doesn't have the loyalty of his workers the way he did, I just struggled to see it. I absolutely LOVED the way Lana handled him both during their first business meeting and during their first date. Too often, the heroine dreams of a put down like that, but the second she's around the hero she backs out or backs down. Sean deserved that, no matter his reasons. I did love how Sean became a better person, almost without me realizing it. His reaction to discovering Peter was his was more than justified. Too often the hero in these types of books immediately jumps for joy, and that is not realistic. The end felt a tad rushed, but overall, it was worth the read.
This was a very quick listen on Everand. Story was okay, though the problems just really weren’t problems? I hate miscommunication or lack of communication being the whole issue. I do think that Lana building up Sean to be a bad guy after all these years makes sense for what she went through so I don’t find that too hard to believe. The whole alcoholic brother thing made really no sense to me besides making Sean look caring. HEA so that’s nice. Would have loved to see more interaction between Peter and Sean and Peter finding out he’s his real dad. Just overall an okay book. Would I recommend? Sure if you’re looking for a quick book to read to pad out your yearly reading numbers.
Side note, the female narrator sounded like she would be better suited as a newscaster, not a story teller. Her cadence and emphasis was just so odd at times and it threw me off track quite a few times. Emotional scenes would be read like she’s reading the daily news report and was just bad. Would def recommend just reading the book
