For teenage secret agent Theo Reese, summer break isn’t a time to relax. In addition to his duties for Tactical Operational Support, Theo’s got a school project and, more than anything, wants to spend time with his boyfriend, Eddie.
A family trip to New York City is the last thing Theo needs.
But a friend of Theo’s father is in need of the Reese family’s special skills. Oliver Glenwood heads a music empire, and his daughter, Sofia, is a rising pop star—one who’d drawn the attention of kidnappers.
During the investigation, Theo discovers the threat poses more danger than originally suspected. Someone has planted code in Glenwood Music’s songs that can steal information from any personal device—or play a tone that can rouse uncontrollable rage. The consequences will be disastrous if the infected songs are downloaded by the public. Preventing worldwide catastrophe becomes even more difficult when Eddie arrives in the city, hoping to spend some quality time with Theo.
No one ever said being a covert agent would be easy.

It’s harder for me to review audiobooks because I just put them in the background while i’m taking notes for a class and I love them for the distraction they provide me. This series has been working perfectly in that regards. These books are really fast paced and entertaining and they make the act of taking notes more fun, so I would say they hit their target, as far as audiobooks go. These books are pure fun and they’re the kind of entertainment i’m looking for. They’re ya thrillers, which is not something I would ever read, but I love it as an audiobooks because it’s a lot of fun to listen to. And once again Kirt Graves has an amazing voice and I love listening to him.
I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.
Teenage super spy Theo, codenamed Winger, is back in his third breathtaking, cleverly constructed thriller/mystery. As eager as he has been to help out his parents and use his “super power” with computers working for TOS, the secret agency that employs them, he is not happy about being pulled away from his plans over the summer before his senior year. Theo hasn’t seen his boyfriend, Eddie, for a while due to the previous assignment, he has plans to work on his project for MIT, and anyway, isn’t a teenager entitled to some time off? Going to New York sounds like a major pain in the you-know-where, yet Theo doesn’t have any options when his parents (uncharacteristically) give him no choice but to accompany them on a private mission to help an old college friend of Theo’s father.
Audio Assault (Codename: Winger #3) by Jeff Adams 5 stars M/M Thriller, Romance I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
Theo is at it again. Only this time, he follows his parents on a mission that changes their lives forever.
While his parents are normally OK with Theo having more autonomy than most high schoolers, when his dad's old friend calls with security concerns, Theo is told, kind of asked, to help his parents out.
This is more of a tale of the who done it than the others, I thought. It was filled with twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat. I loved how Theo and his family, along with the other operatives were racing against the clock.
Without giving too much away, everyone's lives with change in this story and I can't wait to see where the next book takes us. There are unanswered questions and unanswered paths that need to be discovered! I am so excited for what's to come!
In this story I felt for poor Winger, he has a tough time in this story. Which I felt was a nice balance of teenage Theo and responsible agent Winger. A lot happens in this story and I can’t wait to read the final book. Although I have a feeling I will miss him. This is an enjoyable story with moments that frustrates Winger and leaves him questioning everything. Great third book.
Kirt Graves' narration is perfect. Great characterisation of the teenage characters and the adults. He gives the story more depth.
four point five rounded up to five. Audio Assault is one of those books that you really like but you don't really understand why. I enjoyed the first two books in the series more than this one, but this was still good. Not quite sure I like where the author is taking us after this with the boyfriend, but I'm definitely going to go along for the ride to find out. Looking forward to book #4!
Audio Assault This 3rd book was different but still a great book for this series. Some things i suspected came true in this book but at the same time lots of things i wasn't expecting. I can't wait to dive into book 4
I loved it. It was a great read. I had some expectations, but they were surpassed by far. It was full of action, more than the previous instalments, and the twists the plot took were so unexpected and exciting that I just couldn’t put it down.
I was thinking on the reasons why I liked the previous books. I liked the action and mystery but that wasn’t it. What I liked the most on those, were the family interactions and how sweet Theo and Eddie were together. I missed some of that in this book. Is not that it lack those moments, but there were significantly fewer. It has a strong plot. It centers more in field works, which make it very fast paced and so thrilling that It was a fantastic experience.
Theo’s emotions was one of the things I loved the most about the book. The constant fight between his job and his desire to just being a normal teenager and being able to enjoy things with his boyfriend. It was very easy to get in touch with his feelings, which make some events so heartbreaking. Another things that I loved about the book is how much love and support there was between the characters.
I know there will be more of this series in the future and I just can’t wait to keep reading more about Theo and Eddie. Overall it was an amazing book. I would recommend it to anyone who likes mystery, action and YA. Beware it is a part of a series and it will not work as a stand-alone.
The blurb really tells you everything you need to know and almost anything I could add would be a big spoiler. I made some notes while I listened to this book – something I’ve never really done before. Below are some things I noted that aren’t spoilers:
• Theo was drugged and his tech compromised. • Theo had to kick someone to defend himself and the guy might die. • While in NYC on the mission Theo is having a hard time and needs to get away so he buys a very expensive bike; like the one he has back home. • Theo talks to his therapist – he thought it couldn’t get any worse than what happened on his last mission but he was wrong. • After the NYC mission Theo’s boss wants him to go inactive for a while. This upsets Theo but he knows that everyone goes inactive at one time or another for various reasons. His parents go inactive for one week to be with him. • Theo’s going to hockey camp for the summer.
There is so much else I want to say but it really would be to much of a spoiler. I will say that there are bad guys everywhere and in places I wasn’t expecting.
As with Tracker Hacker and Schooled, Kirt Graves did a fantastic job with this audiobook. His voice is perfect for these YA stories and I loved how distinctive each voice he’s chosen for the different characters is.
This book ends on more of a cliffhanger than the others and I really can’t wait to listen to Netminder. If Kirt Graves doesn’t finish recording it soon, I may have to break down and read Netminder with my eyes instead of my ears. 😊
A copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
Have you ever had one of those 14 oz containers of Häagen-Dazs turn into a “single serving” size? I started this book just after breakfast and figured it would be great read over the next couple of days. Now as the sun is setting I wonder what about it was so riveting that I couldn’t stop listening? The first two book in this series were also of the “YA” action movie ilk and I enjoyed them but this one had some extra addictive properties.
Partly it was that this one brings Theo to New York City, one of my favorite cities in the world. More so it was due to a plot development partway through the book that not only make this one an “edge of your seats” adventure but also something of a cliff-hanger. Now I need to get the final installment of this epic tale. Partly just out of a compulsion to see what happens next and partly to see if my theories are correct.
Those familiar with the first two book in this series will not be surprised that Theo has an almost too good to be true boyfriend nor that he he never gets to spend the kind of quality time he wants with him because of his “sideline” as a security operative for spy organization. When Theo’s parents pull him out of Boston on a “family trip” to NYC to help a college buddy of his dad’s, Theo’s upset at what that means for his end of summer plans with Eddie. But imagine his surprise when Eddie shows up in NYC to surprise him. Will Theo be able to do the kind of high tech hacking he needs to do and still have time for Eddie without putting Eddie in danger?
As you’d expect with teen-aged main characters, there is no graphic sex depicted here. Theo’s kept so busy that he gets even less time with Eddie than in previous books.
Kirt Graves does the audiobook narration and his youthful voice is perfect for the first person narration as seen by Theo. His other character’s dialogue voices are spot on as well. Now I need to arrange to get hold of Book 4, the finale to the series.
***Note: While I received a free copy of this title, this is an honest and impartial review ***
I listened to the audiobook version of this story courtesy of an ARC given to me upon request. The following opinion is given voluntarily and honestly.
‘Audio Assault’ delivers high-octane action almost from the very start. Readers are first given a few establishing scenes showing how Theo is managing time as a ‘regular’ teenager--playing roller-hockey with best friend Mitch, hanging out with friends and making an effort to spend as much of their summer off with boyfriend Eddie.
When Theo’s father’s old friend asks for his help, the entire family travels to New York City to assist. It’s here that Theo turns into ‘secret agent man’ again--complete with hi-tech gadgets and use of newly acquired tactical skills--in order to stop the hacking and embedding of dangerous audio files for distribution to the public.
While I completely enjoy the computer jargon and the danger-filled missions, It’s Theo’s journey to adulthood that keeps me reading. In this book, Theo is betrayed by someone close to him. I’m really anxious to find out how Theo will get through this devastating development.
Kirt Graves’ narration in the ‘Codename: Winger’ series, especially the heightened emotions in Book 3, have solidified him as the voice of Theo. I can’t imagine anyone else being able to surpass these performances.
Wow, this third book in the series threw a serious curveball that I didn’t see coming, but then could see it in hindsight. Poor Theo really gets put through the wringer, and I like how the tension builds still further and links back to what’s happened before. I picked up book 4 immediately after I finished reading this one.
This story picks up six months after the events of the last book, and I liked how Theo and Eddie’s relationship has grown in that time. The new piece of tech in this story is very cool, and I liked the part it plays. The idea of song files being modified is very clever, especially the way they’re used, and how they are not that easy to dispose of.
I love how Theo’s parents are parents first, and secret agents second, and how they support him through everything. I thought it was very realistic how he second guesses himself, and then can only tell a version of events to his friends who are concerned about him. The other villain wasn’t someone I suspected either. Blackbird is really upping their game in this story, and everything is about to hit the fan!
The mix of action, drama, tech, angst and romance is well written, and this series is on my list of favourite YA reads. All the characterisations are wonderful, and the plot drives the fast paced storyline.
The extraordinary story continues, Winger is taken on holiday to New York with his parents. A holiday is a stretch; they are going to meet an old friend of his dad who is having a struggle.
Again Theo (Winger) ends up working on his computers, but the daughter of the man they are helping flies in Eddie to keep Theo company. Eddie completely breaks Theo's heart in the worst way.
The storyline is intricate and keeps you interested throughout the book. Theo (Codename Winger) works for the same organisation as his mum and dad. Although he usually only helps out from his room.
To read the grieving that Theo goes through is harsh, but we all experience heartbreak as a teenager/ young adult at some point in our lives. I have loved listening to these books, even if they are far fetched in some areas, but that's the joy of stories.
Kirt Graves did wonders with the characters. Easy to listen to. I did speed up the narration like usual to 1.3 on BookFunnel.

If you have not read the previous books in this series you really should before you read this book.
I'm not sure I liked this story as much as I liked the previous books. I can't entirely put my finger on what didn't work for me in this story, but it just didn't draw me in the way the previous books did. I did like getting to see Theo working more with his parents and getting a bit of their cover story. I'm still trying to figure out John, he still feels like an odd extra character for me. I get that he's part of TOS, but it almost feels like the story works too hard to make him "family" then points out he's not family. The Glenwood attempted kidnappings also still felt off, if it was meant to be a distraction it seemed superfluous. The entire plot came together like too many moving pieces that just didn't quite click.
This is absolutely brilliant! Audio Assault is the third book in the Codename Winger series and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this Audiobook! Fast paced, clever, thrilling, with a twist,I was really hoping wasn't going to happen, this story, expertly narrated by Kirt Graves, who effortlessly brings Jeff's Characters and their story to life, had me hooked straight from the first words spoken. I don't want to give spoilers for this audiobook,I want to urge listeners to dive in and immerse themselves in this absolutely brilliant thriller! I received an arc copy of this audiobook from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.
Audio Assault is Book 3 in the Codename: Winger series. This amazing series should be enjoyed in order. This series just keeps getting better. I love the growth we see in Theo in this book. Theo is hoping for a summer full of time with his boyfriend, Eddie, and working on some MIT projects. He did not anticipate his parents taking him to NY with them, and having it turn into a TOS mission. This book is action packed and full of the unexpected. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book. I definitely recommend this series. It's one to enjoy again and again. Narrator Kirt Graves does another amazing job in this series. He is such a delight to listen to.
LGBTQ YA Spy,Adventure story. Third installment in this fantastic series. When Theo aka Winger heads to New York with his parents to help his Dads College friend on a non TOS "Mission" things soon take a turn for the worse when it seems that yet again Blackbird are behind everything. Theo faces his toughest time to date when he's left wondering if everything has been a lie...and who can he trust? Kirt Graves yet again brought this story and its characters to life. Cannot recommend this fantastic series enough.
Theo just wants to hang out with his boyfriend Eddie the summer before his senior year of high school, but his parents have another idea. His parents need Theo’s help with some security concerns. The story has an intricate storyline woven throughout it. It definitely kept me interested. There’s also a bit of a cliffhanger, which I don’t like at all!! But this is an amazing series and I’m along for the ride! The story is really well written, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received.
Man I really love this series and this was my favorite one yet. This feels way more serious than the others and had me in tears in a couple of parts. It end in a soft cliffhanger I would say. More so than the other two books. I felt for Theo so much I’m Audio Assault and the emotional upheaval he feels comes through the page so well. I’m planning to read the next book ASAP because I need to know what happens next. There is a twist I was not expecting at all and I usually see things coming.
More intrigue upon intrigue as Theo is once again is needed for his skills this time on a private mission with his parents. Eddie is Theo’s boyfriend who he hasn’t seen for a while, when Eddie surprises Theo everything turns upside down.. A great book three leaving me wanting more ..
Wow. What a great story. This series is continuing to show Theo's growth, and unfortunately so much has been thrown at him. I hated where this story ended up, but I really feel like I saw it coming. I can't wait to find out what happens next with Theo. I am already sad to think that the next book is the last book in the series.
Audio Assault by Jeff Adams. This was a perfect 5 stars for me. First, there was the action and spy stuff that was awesome. The character development is so good in this series that I have become attached to these characters. And when the thing with Eddie happened. I gave him a big FU and my heart broke for Theo. Lol. so good.
AUDIO. This book sees the Reese family help a College friend and his family, which turns into a TOS investigation. Wow, I had my suspicions with Eddie from the last book, I wasn't disappointed with his backstabbing ways, good riddance. Well written and narration was done really well
Another fantastic story by Jeff Adams, although it shows as young adult i think the target range can extend to many more. Loving the series. Amazing narration by Kirt Graves for the audio version. This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
This series just keeps getting better and better. I continue to enjoy watching Theo balance the public and secret sides of his life, as if being a teenager wasn't already complicated enough. A fantastic addition to the series.
*I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the GRR team*
Jeff Adams' series, Codename Winger, continues with Audio Assault Fascinating and Addictive....secrets, danger, suspense, betrayals, and humor. Amazing writing and character building - emotional, exciting and wonderful.
I’m not sure what I expected when I started the Codename: Winger series, but so far I’ve been impressed. So impressed that I could kick myself for not picking up the series earlier. On the plus side, by waiting, there’s no wait time between books. Normally, that’s not an issue because I don’t always pick up one book in a series after another. After finishing Audio Assault, I’m pretty sure I’ll be breaking that trend. Which brings me to another point… this is going to be the hardest book in the series so far to review and keep my spoilery feelings to myself. *sigh*
The premise of Audio Assault was pretty unique and pretty scary too. Basically, the villain was using music as a weapon. It didn’t affect everyone in the same way, but the results were still devastating. Unfortunately, Theo learned first hand how vulnerable unsuspecting people could be to the assault, even knowing what was going on didn’t keep him safe from attack. He was also under additional pressure because of Eddie’s surprise visit. He was happy to get to spend time with him, but keeping his secret was going to be even harder when Eddie was right there in the middle of a job.
This is a series that keeps readers (at least this reader) glued to the turning pages. The danger is never expected, but seems to be around every corner and nothing is quite what it seems. There were also some added emotions added to the mix that kind of blindsided me. I’m not sure if there’s any fixing the way things were left by the end of Audio Assault. Turns out there’s an #EvilAuthor side of Jeff Adams that I didn’t know about. Needless to say, Netminder just got moved way up on my TBR pile.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of Audio Assault. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
