Mending Magic Series: Lost Souls Illusion of Power Challenging the Dark
Wanita May grew up in the fruit belt of Ontario - St.Catharines. Crazy-happy childhood, she always has had a vivid imagination and loads of energy.
The youngest of six -- four older brothers, and a sister -- taught her at a young age to be competitive in all aspects of life.
At sixteen, she began competing in athletics (track and field) and before she turned seventeen, she was representing Canada in high jump. She continued to compete, breaking Canada's JR High Jump record (1.92m - 6' 3 1/2" for those metric-ly challenged). She attented University of Toronto, and Kansas State University - winning CIAU's and becoming All-American 6x - NCAA Indoors Runner Up + more.
But you're not interested in her athletic career - unless of course you're curious to know she stands 1.70m (5'7") and has jumped 20cm over her head on more than one occassion. She's represented Canada at the World Championships, World Jrs., won Francophone Games, and loved every minute of every competition. From the grueling workouts, the crazy weights she lifted on her back, the days she thought her lungs were going to spit out of her mouth for lack of oxygen, the travelling around the world and the opportunity to read - her favourite past time.
Life continued with her husband (a distance runner from Liverpool, UK, who she met at KSU) and then their first, then second and finally third child. Their house became full of more imagination and stories.
Wanita and her husband run an online business, dealing in antiques and collectables - particularly jewelry and porcelain (one of the business' website: www.wadeincanada.com ).
After her father passed away in 2009, from a six-year battle with cancer (which she still believes he won the fight against), she began to write again. A passion she'd loved for years, but realized life was too short to keep putting it off.
Her first book, Rae of Hope - from the Chronicles of Kerrigan - will be available October 2011 by kNight Romance Publishing.
She is currently represented by Dawn Dowdle of Blue Ridge Literary Agency. Wanita is a writer of Young Adult, Fantasy Fiction and where ever else her little muses take her.
Pleasantly surprised by this one. The story keeps you constantly intrigued, the characters are enjoyable, it’s well written, and overall, for a book about a high school jock - I liked it more than I was expecting.
I really enjoyed this book, I literally couldn't put it down. A lot of stories like this have a female as the lead so it was really refreshing to read it from a males perspective. I thought the pace was good, you got to know the characters well and it made me laugh out loud a couple of times. I feel this book was the introduction to the world and characters, giving you a hint of whats to come and I can't wait to read the 2nd book as i think this will be super fast-paced. All in all a great read :)
Wow! I am an avid follower of W.J. May. Lost Souls did not disappoint! I had chills when I finished reading it. I highly recommend this book! Fabulous read!
Jamie and Gabrielle are total opposites in school but when working in a project brings them together secrets are revealed. When one of the kids in their schools taken away is Gabrielle next? This book is alomaos like mutants where some people are born with special abilities but apparently it’s illegal if the person is found they are taken away. I really enjoyed the story and it’s different because it’s in the guys POV the whole time so he’s really the main character which is different than anything I’ve read. I highly recommend I can’t wait to se what happens in the next book

Have purchased the box set of the first three books in the series from Amazon for free, . SAPPY rich boy romance on the outs with abusive father in a high technology society that witch hunts those youngsters with magical abilities.

Another fantastic book by W.J. May! If you love her other books you're going to love this one too! The story line moves quickly, all the while keeping you in suspense. Can't wait for the next book in the series!
The cover is so eye catching i immediately was wondering what magic is in the cover characters Hands..... A pet peeve of mine is when cover Models don't fit characters descriptions in the books.... I can Happily digress this 2 + 2 Makes 4
So the story....
We start off with Jamie the Male MC also may i add the whole book is told from His POV which is really refreshing. So Jamie is having an identity crisis and wants to escape go backpacking in his gap year, while Also learning he is a popular teenage Jock that doesn't fit into the stereotypical mold.
The first Few chapters are really introducing us to Jaime and a Very dystopian type world, The Author cleverly doesn't Give us the full scope but peels Back layers of the world as the story Progresses.
I wont spoil too much but the Gist is The world works on a purge of the supernaturals, catching them and taking them Away (Not much in this book discloses where) hopefully book 2... 1 in 500 are suspected to Have this Gene, from Chapter one with the fountain I suspected Jamie may be one of them.
The book Sets the scene, Exploring a reignited childhood friendship with next door Neighbor Gabrielle and the relationship Between Father and son.
It (for me) had brushstrokes of the Craft film thrown in
A really Great YA read. The characters are not virgins but there is nothing explicit in the read other than Kissing.
"He'd Only Dreamt He'd Fallen Asleep, that he'd lived in the woods the whole time"
Questions for Book 2
What Happened to Jamie's Mum? Where are People taken once they have been Purged? Is Uncle Jake really a good guy?

>Book Review – Lost Souls >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the Mending Magic series and ends in a cliffhanger. Jamie is the rich, gorgeous QB in a prestigious private high school. The story is told from his point of view, so the mean girls are not the main characters. It was refreshing to, instead, see the high school angst through the eyes of the teenage boys. Yes, they are horny, but they are also confused a lot. Gabby is Jamie’s neighbor. She had a weird episode at a party early in her high school career and turned in to a pariah. Jamie likes her, but succumbs to peer pressure and doesn’t pay attention to her. >In this reality, people exist with paranormal powers. Jamie’s father is the leader of the group that captures these people with enhanced DNA. No one knows what happens to them after they are captured. After Jamie’s good friend gets taken right off the football field, he starts to question everything. Weird things happen to Jamie, but only Gabby puts together that he has enhanced DNA. >This book is appropriate for a young adult audience. I am giving this book 3 stars. Jamie is supposed to feel something for Gabby, yet he runs away, never giving her a 2nd thought. There are a bunch of secondary characters that could be good or bad. The story was good until Jamie and Gabby pair up. There needs to be more romantic tension, even for a young adult book.
I actually really enjoyed this book, but it had some writing flaws. The premise is interesting and the pace was good for keeping me engaged and eager to flip the page. However, there were gaps in the story where it felt like more information was needed. For instance, a character was frantic, stopped to talk to another character, then suddenly they both were outside the building. There was no indication that they were exiting the building or maybe running and talking at the same time, and no act break.. It's difficult to describe but this sort of lack of transition was present throughout the book. Otherwise, it was well done and enjoyable, and I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.
This is a new to me author, and I just say I believe I am hooked! In this book, we meet Jamie a not so typical high school jock that is having a small identity crisis. He gets to know his neighbor Gabby a little more due to a school project. With her support and influence, he starts to realize some things about himself. These things are overwhelming and will absolutely cause some issues with his father!! I’m not about spoilers, but I will tell you some sparks will fly! Get your copy and read it toda!! ~Dowie
Jamie hardly sees his father, who travels all over looking for those who are different. Those who have special abilities that scare his world. Gabby is the girl next door, whose parents are never around. What does she have to do with Jamie? Together they find out the truth and it sends them running. A excellent look into the minds of those who fear difference. A must read for all lovers of the supernatural world.
I would've given it 5 stars, because I had trouble putting it down, but this book barely stands on its own as a book. It really should be the first half of the first book. It sets up all the background info for the rest of the series, but doesn't have enough plot movement to warrant being a book on its own.
I love the mind of this author. I loved the Kerrigan Chronicles and I think this new series will be just as great. It’s fast paced and well thought out. The characters are incredibly well developed. All around, this book will suck in you and won’t let you go!
A little long winded but gives a lot of background for the next book. A witch hunt without witches but with gifted people instead. I might just get the next book just to see where it goes as this was interesting.
Keeping in mind this is a teen book, I felt like this is what a female images a teenage boy is like. Either way this was just a tad too predictable to me with too many tropes.
Quite a read! I hope that Jamie and Tabby will be alright. I'm surprised that his father wasn't a bit more supportive of Jamie, I hope that he becomes the cropper that he seems to be!
Different but intriguing. Jamie is figuring out who he is.
This is a different kind of read for me. I think I struggled along with Jamie on what was happening, and who he really is . I am hoping the next book gives a better idea of what the story really is.
Cliffhanger ending, felt like an unfinished book. Lots of grammar mistakes.
For my clean readers: language-lots, but no f-bomb. Violence-child abuse and police brutality. Underage drug use and abuse. Underage drinking. Romance-kissing, sexual discussions and implications, but no graphic scenes.
Stereotypical high school jock and hot outcast girl but it had a good pace and definitely drew me in. Found the main characters inner dialogue quite funny at times and was intrigued to learn more about magic systems/those who have been kidnapped…
Great first book in a new series. Having read the Chronicles of Kerrigan I was expecting a great story. It did not disappoint. Check out Jamie and see what happens if your special!
I liked this book. But I like a lot of WJ Mays books. This one had good character development and nice intrigue. Teens and superpowers and a world against their special talents.
