In the thrilling conclusion to the quirky and charming Darkly Sweet series, Penny puts it all on the line for love, but sometimes, lines were made to be crossed. Drake can’t be what she needs, but his ego won’t let him back down without a fight. Conveniently, there are endless battles, the greatest one against his need to find a mop bucket with Penny Lane inside it. With mage contracts and Darksiders to juggle, (never kiss a Darksider) Penny and Drake will take on mayhem and paperwork, golf balls and heart-shaped shrapnel until Dayside and Darkside will never be the same again.
Reader You won't be able to stop once you start. Get out the popcorn and the macaroons. Not the morsels. Just don't do it.
Many more mages witches, sorcerers and dragons. I loved these books. There is no sex or overboard violence in any of them. Great for ages 12 and up. Recommend this set of books to read!!
I don't know how I feel about this book series. I like the writing, even if it's a bit odd, it has its charm. I liked the first books a lot, especially how Drake thinks about Penny, but then it turned to too much angst for me. I just wanted them to talk with each other and tell each other what they feel!
There were also a lot of things I just didn't get. I didn't get the whole 'owning' thing. How can more than one mage own a witch? Also Zach did it when she was unconscious, does it not need any kind of approval from the victim? How isn't everyone enslaved then??
I also didn't really get how Penny and Pitch worked. Like, Pitch marked Zach, so how did Penny not recognize him when she looked him up? At that point they were in the same body, right?
I also had a tough time understanding who were supposed to be capable of love, like Darksiders weren't supposed to, but then they gave us lots of examples?
There were just a lot of things I felt should've been fleshed out more, and it was a bit frustrating to read this when not everything got answered.
I did not like the Pitch/Penny and Zach thing. I get some people saying reverse harem. Her not letting him have any other witches is insane.
This book was tedious to get through. I started this book disliking most of the characters, but continued the series because I wanted to know how it ended, and finished hating all of them. Most of this one was told from Drake's perspective, and I've hated him since book 1, so reading this was particularly unpleasant. I found myself confused during some of the conversations, especially the ones involving debts and contracts, and had to reread the paragraphs several times. Eventually, about halfway through, I said, "I just want to be finished with this, I don't care if I'm missing something."
Even though I never really liked what was happening in this series, and despite the fact the characters ranged from "not my cup of tea" to "I wouldn't mind if the book caught fire in my hands if it meant this character was wiped from the plane of existence," it was always interesting enough to continue on to the next book. Had this not been the last in the series, I would not have finished it or continued on with the series.
I'm sad to say goodbye to this story. I loved Penny and Zach. I won't spoil the story to new readers, so prepare yourself to be amazed. The story started very good, and the only reason I gave it a 4 ⭐is because I felt like the ending was rushed. I still want to know what happened to Señor Mort. Was Pete interested in Penny? Where's Mitch and Jackson? Did Viney end up with Oscar? What happened to Ian? Is he a politician now? And Haleson, did he get his wife for a day? Was Serene marry to Revere? What kind of acquaintanceship does Penny and Lester have? I wished that this story ended up like Infernal devices, the Kricket series, and the Trylle series. 😫 Anyways, I still love this author, and I won't give up on Watergirl's story ever. I still have Sean to drool over.
I absolutely love this series. Its fast paced, and totally immersive. Things arent spelled out for the readers so little details might be missed the first go around, but altogether, the story is extremely original, the romance is both scorching and swoonworthy, and it has many characters that have layers and interest to them, not only the very layered main characters. Absolutely love this series. Ive tried reading others by the same author, but havent found one i love as much as this
Well, that was an ending. I kind of hate it. I kind of hate so much about this book. On the one hand, I give it credit for really getting my emotions going and leaving me outraged. I clearly care. But I feel like the story decided to veer into a weird, not-quite-reverse-harem direction and it suffers for it. Overall, glad I finished the series, but also not sure it was worth the ending.
Great series, and a wonderful (kinda corny) ending. There's a bully-aspect to the whole storyline, but in the case of the characters--no real victim, because each witch or mage can give as good as they get. This is a series I'll probably read again in it's entirety. Fun, gross, mean, flippant, and irreverent--this book, like the others, has the reader going back and forth on who to cheer for, as they are all so warped and broken.
This series was so much more than I expected, and now that it’s over I’m still wondering what happened to everyone later on. How did things pan out for each character, who had a gaggle of kids and which mages married insane witches, and about the humans. I’ll cross my fingers and hope we get to hear more about them some day. Thank you for the adventure, it was wonderful.
This is the last book of a 5 book series. I thought after book 4 I wouldn't continue anymore because I was upset about Penny & Drake. I love the characters so I continued reading, and I was not disappointed. Book 5 was awesome. The plot was very exciting. It was so detailed, that I could envision the scenery as I was living it. Great ending to a great series. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
I have to say that I'm a little sad to see these characters stories end. I truly liked the world of rosewood academy and dark side. I am happy with the ending and how it all turned out. It was a little drawn out and then rushed through at the end, hence the 4 stars. However, a solid book with a happy ending that I can get behind.
Well this last book really takes the reader on an amazing twisted journey. Penny is learning how to write contract s so she can ha e the perfect marriage agreement.... To Zach! Many plot turns, twists and flips will Keep you reading this circus of a book. I enjoyed this ridiculous series and would love to maybe see some stories from other characters.
The final chapter of Darkly Sweet and I hate to see them go. Packed with action and angst. Lots of new and interesting characters. In the end, it all comes together. Lots of mysteries are solved. I don’t want to give away too much, so I won’t say more. Loved it!
Oh it's the end!?! Why is it the end? I loved this series, Drake and Penny are fabulous characters on a fascinating journey of love loss and magic. This is a must read series that will keep you intrigued from the first to the very last page. And there are adorable animals, who can say no to adorable animals.
Ok ok ok I need to talk about this book, this series...... one: I can’t believe it’s over. Two: omg omg omg we didn’t get any detailed coverage of the hook up we’ve all been waiting for!!!!! WTH you gave me blue balls, if I had balls, but you gave me the equivalent! Three: I want more on Teddy, Ian and Zach and even missy, it felt too incomplete. Loved the series though, specifically Drake.

Penny forms a contract with Zach and Drake as backup. But when the time to marry Zach comes she can't do it. They go to war with her Father and finally are able to subdue him and make him take away the curse. She and Drake marry and are very happy. She and Zach manufacture tech things.
For a little while there I wasn't sure if I'd cry because the ending wouldn't be what I wanted but I was pleased how it ended nonetheless. As always the characters were odd and somewhat crazy but loveably so. A fitting end that left me very pleased.
If I could give this book/series a million stars, I would!
Oh my goodness I cannot believe this series is over but what a great ending. I actually fell a bit in love with Zach. Just a little. I do not want this to be the end. Penny has to have way more adventures!
We got there!!! Drake and Penny and their achingly devious, heart-rending struggle to be a couple. It's almost as if fate meant them to be together. Awesome sauce and happiness all wrapped up in this series.
I don't want it to end! I must have more! I really enjoyed these books and I'm honestly dad that it's ending. I want to know more about the other characters. Maybe there will be a side storyline? One can only hope.
Talk about a whirlwind romance! This series swept me away! So much love and heartache. Battles being fought. Personalities so strong, you wonder how they ever mesh. Truly a must read for Witch, Mage and Magic lovers!
Although I don't often like alternating character titles, it was really necessary due to the quirky, funny characters involved. My head was spinning trying to wade through the molasses story and I loved each moment!
This was such a great ending to a series I absolutely love. I loved the worldbuilding, and how you gradually learned more, until everything made sense.
I slammed through all the books from this world back-to-back. The 4 books and 2 novellas of Darkly Sweet, then the 2 books of Wit the Wicked, then the 3 books of Arrietty in Underland. Each series corresponds to one of the 3 dragon lords. They were all very good. I'm a big fan of this author now.
I adored the Darkly Sweet books - they were ridiculous and funny in the very best ways, with some darker urban fantasy woven through. Penny is the primary character of Darkly Sweet and I adored her. Her love interest Drake (dragonlord of Violence) is also fantastically odd.
The Wit (Whitley) books were also very good, but Wit is a harder heroine to love. I listed to some of these books on Audible for free (virtual voice narration, but not horrible.) Ian is her love interest (dragonlord of Lust).
The Arrietty books were the most violent and edgy with a lot less humor than the other books, which I suppose makes sense for Prince, the dragonlord of Death.
I loved this series in it's entirety! Brilliantly creative with a touch of mystery and lots of humor. I am 48 and read all genres and I like this mix. This is one of my favorite dark romances! Read it then buy it :)
