A gripping novel full of twists and turns about a city caught in the grip of an unprecedented crime wave, the girl who strives to reconcile with the mother who abandoned her, the mother who still wants nothing to do with her, the loathsome estranged twin sister; the unwanted relentless love interest and the ruthless vigilante with an unknown agenda.
Peter Stone, an avid student of history, was reading books on Ancient Greece from the age of four. Periods of interest include the ancient world, medieval era, Napoleonic times, and the Second World War. He still mourns the untimely passing of King Leonidas of Sparta and Field Marshal Michel Ney of France.
A product of the Cold War Generation, Peter Stone studied the ramifications of a nuclear missile strike when he was in his senior year of high school, learning the effects of nuclear fallout and how to (hopefully) survive it. He has ever been drawn to post-apocalyptic and dystopian novels and films, and eagerly devoured The Day of the Triffids and John Christopher's Tripod Trilogy when he was a child. He is also an avid fan of science fiction, and his favorite books include the Lensmen Series by E.E.Doc.Smith, anything by Alastair Reynolds, and the Evergence trilogy by Sean Williams. He also enjoys J-pop (especially Ayumi Hamasaki trance remixes), K-pop, Korean movies, and K-drama.
Peter Stone graduated from Melbourne School of Ministries Bible College in 1988. He has been teaching Sunday School and playing the keyboard in church for over twenty-five years. His wife is from Japan and they have two wonderful children. He has worked in the same games company for over twenty years, but still does not comprehend why they expect him to work all day instead of playing games.
Excellent reading. Such a good story. Many twists and turns. I got into the story on the first page and I just couldn't put it down. Personally to the author... More more more.........
I found this to be an absorbing story which I could not tear myself away from. A senator who gave birth to twins just one month after her Japanese husband died from early-onset Altzheimer's disease unforgivably and irrationally abandoned one twin in a derelict house to die, because she tested to be carrying the same genetic disease. She threw herself into politics but became one of the most hated politicians in America because she refused to pass a law to incarcerate convicted repeat offenders. The abandoned baby was searched for and raised by her mother's best friend, Fran, from university. She grew up in abject poverty while her sister, Corine, lived a life of opulence and great privilege. When Fran died, Amber was forced to ask her real mother, Joan, to help her. Her totally cold mother eventually agreed to employ her to be the carer to her autistic son born from her second marriage. Her twin sister hated her and made her life a complete misery. The twists and turns in the plot fascinated me. Highly entertaining. Strongly recommended.
Abandoned girl was adopted by a woman. Her adopted Mom died. She was sent to live with bio Mom. Bio Mom refused to acknowledge her. Bio Mom was in the political arena.
I am so glad to have discovered this author and cannot wait to read more of his work. I couldn’t put the book down once I started it. Definitely recommend this book!!
Amber Faulkner has not had an easy life. She was given up for adoption by her birth mother shortly after her birth. Her adoptive father was abusive. Her adoptive mother was loving but became terminally ill and had a hard time supporting them. Her adoptive mother's final wish is that Amber be reunited with her birth mother after she passes away. But Amber's birth mother is a reviled politician and has no desire to be reunited with her. There are dark secrets that lie in Amber's past and dangers awaiting her in her new life.
This was a nice suspenseful, clean story. There are secrets and twists that keep the reader guessing throughout the story. I do admit that I was taken in by one or two of the red herrings in the story. I did want to set Amber down and tell her to not let everyone walk all over her. But overall, I did enjoy the story and would recommend it.
I did appreciate that this is a clean story. It is nice to read a story that doesn't feel the need to break up the story to insert a sex scene that doesn't add anything to the story.
This book is similar to the corn maze in the fall. Just when you are at the turning point when you know you are home free, you hit a dead-end and must backtrack. The popcorn trail was right there all along yet you in your mighty wisdom decided you know better and failed to pick up the clues and off you go to the end of yet another passage to stop you from your goal. The goal of course is the who and why of this mystery. Finally, an opening, and all becomes clear. What a journey. Why are there no more books in this series? The author hooks us with only two and then no more!!! Excellent writing.
How do you write a book in the first person yet having the protagonist be so detached? She ate, she lived, she cried, she laughed, yet at no moment did she feel real. Had it been more of a journal-type of writing, I'd understand why I had no connection with the person whose eyes I'm seeing/reading through but this wasn't it. I'm supposed to be on this journey with Amber, I'm supposed to cry/laugh/eat/sleep with her!
The plot itself was simple and by-the-numbers, feeling like it was written in a weekend and Mr Stone in a hurry to get this book done and it shows.
This was a very exciting book . It kept me up at night reading it. Amber was adopted by her birth mothers friend Fran. Fran was ill & told her when she passes she is to go to her birth mothers home who was a political official. Amber got thrown out on the street when Fran dies. She then went to her birth mothers home and it got worse and worse every day since then. She found out she had a step brother with autism and a twin sister and a horrible mom who didn't want her. Why?The book is full of surprises one after the other. Poor Amber went thru 18 years of a hard life. The ending was a shock.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF STORY LINE, SO DIFFERENT IT SEEMED UNREAL TO ME. I KEPT READING, HOPING, THIS HAS GOT TO GET BETTER AND BEFORE I KNEW IT HAD ENDED AND IT DIDN’T. THE MAJORITY OF THE CHRACTERS WERE EXTREMLY CRUEL, I MEAN OVER THE TOP CRUEL. I GOT TIRED OF AMBER AND HER WEAK RESPONSES TO ALL THE CRUELITY DIRECTED AT HER. I FELT THAT THE CRUELNESS DEPICTED IN MOST OF THE CHARACTERS TOWARD ONE PERSON WAS WAY. WAY TOO FREAKING MUCH. THE HITS JUST KEPT ON COMING. :<
This is my first review so bear with me...I liked this book and read it quickly, however some things just didn't jive with me well as you may agree with if you read it...but I liked the main character and admired her reserve. The story flowed well for the most part and it did have a few twists and turns.
I liked reading "Girl, Abandoned" very much. As a twin I am always drawn to a story with twins as main characters and this one had an interesting twist to it. Nature or nurture is a question explored here. It's an exciting story with danger, revenge and deceit mixed with a search for family and love. It was a very good read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I might have guessed who the bad guy was early on, but it did not detract from the story at all. I was on the edge of my seat, a real page turner. I reccomend this book. Enjoy.
This book is one of those books you can’t put down until your eye close or you finish it. I loved the relationships he built between the characters and the suspense he built up throughout the book. Kept me guessing right up to the end!
I just 📚start reading this and captivated by the story about an orphan 👧and just remained I'm orphan too.! Touching theme for someone in that case!!👀First book read from the author!!😍and with one characte r suffers to much from the real family !I but the happy ☺ending!Really good and recommend.👀👁👁
This was a great book. I kept waiting. For there to be cuss words, but thankfully there aren't any. It has plenty of action and it was impossible for me to predict the ending. I really enjoyed it.
At first I thought I would not like this book but as I continued reading I was kept interested as the plot and action unfolded. Great characters and suspense as to who was doing what and why. Glad I kept reading because it is a well written and interesting book.
This is a "stay up late..I've to know what comes next" read and that is just what I did so I could finish it! It had me fooled to the end too. The characters lived up to their part and then some.. What a mess of a family! I think you will really like this book!
This was a very fascinating book. So many twist and turns. My heart went out to Amber and Fran, two very strong women. I wasn’t very surprised with the ending. I did guess it part way through, but was sad to see who it was.
Several name and grammatical errors, which spoiled my enjoyment of this book. It's also quite a stretch for some of the characters to be believable. I guessed some of the twists, but not all. All in all, not really my kind of book, but I did read it from start to finish.
Once again this author does not disappoint. Peter R. Stone has managed to come up with a uniquely fantastic plot. I enjoyed seeing everything through Amber's eyes as she deals with her foil of a sister, Corrine, and seemingly manages to out maneuver Aaron. Not sure what to think about Liam though. Is it possible to simultaneously like and hate a character at the same time? His demeanor confuses me, but the storyline wouldn't be the same without him.
I was intrigued by the title. The writing style seemed at odds with the YA genre. As I waited for the story to catch fire I decided this was not my thing and caved.
