A blood-borne virus requires a blood-born cure, but can Ruby survive saving everyone else?

The last few weeks sent Ruby Behl's world into even more of a tailspin than when the Tercera virus first broke out. Her boyfriend might be dead, her best friend isn’t dead, and the man she knew as her father may have kidnapped her at birth. Worse, the virus suppressant suddenly stopped working, accelerating the deaths of thousands. Finding a cure just went from important to critical.

Unfortunately, an essential piece of the puzzle fell into the hands of David Solomon, a zealous cult leader planning to massacre the remaining Marked—unless Ruby gives him what he wants: her blood, possibly all of it. Ruby must decide. Should she stay and help the Marked who rescued her or gamble on saving the entire world? As she grapples with the meaning of family and the value of a legacy, Ruby must decide who to trust—and who’s worth saving in the first place.

A blood-borne virus requires a blood-born cure, but can Ruby survive saving everyone else?

I was really excited to read this second book in the Sins of Our Ancestors trilogy. Ruby barely escapes from Galveston and joins up with the Marked to try to develop a cure. Unfortunately her escape comes at a high cost. The loss of someone important and the loss of her father's last journal, which holds the key to developing the cure. I was delighted to see that the Marked have a major base in my home city of Baton Rouge in this book. I knew exactly where they were and it was easy to picture the setting changed to a post-apocalyptic one.

Wesley plays a much bigger role this time around and I like him quite a lot, and there ended up being a few parts involving Wesley that I thought were amusing. I can't say that I like him as much as Sam, but I like him in a different way, and it was fun to read and see the differences in the two characters and the strengths they each bring individually to the story, and how they each have helped Ruby through this.

That being said, the love triangle is still a negative for me in this book. It didn't bother me in the last book, but unfortunately this time around it became a bit of an annoyance. Ruby ends up a bit conflicted about her feelings here. I like Ruby, but this did cause me to have some conflicting feelings about her, but at the same time she is a teenage girl who never had a romantic relationship in her life before, so I can see that perspective of it as well. On a positive note - I was extremely happy when she realized she shouldn't be blaming herself for so many things that weren't her fault, but it did take a long while for her to get there.

The book ends with Ruby left in a situation that she is not happy about, but it's not a cliffhanger at all. Although I didn't like this one quite as much as the first book, I thought it was still very good. I'm looking forward to reading the final book in the trilogy, and I'll definitely be looking for more from this author in the future.

Thanks to the author for proving me with an ARC in exchange for a review.

Book 1 was incredible and book 2 didn't disappoint. I'm not a big fan of love triangles, but Bridget made it work. She took a unique approach and made it compelling without it feeling immature or overdone. I can't wait to start book 3 this weekend!

Once again, I read most of it in one sitting. Baker knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat and turning pages. A strong second novel that makes me anxious for the third.

Trilogies are tricky, and the second book often feels like a mere bridge between the first and the third, lacking forward-progression in the plot. This one, however, was engaging from the first chapter, with tension and intrigue that maintained my interest throughout the remainder of the novel. Suppressed includes crucial information about the virus and it's potential antidote. That and the building conflict earns this book a well-earned place in the trilogy that will keep you turning pages until the end, at which point you can't help but order the concluding book in the series, Redeemed. Those who enjoy Hunger Games and Legend with love this installment in the Sins of our Ancestors series.

Nowhere near as good as the first one. Stupid love triangle. Indecisive Ruby. Sillier story line.
But I love how they show how christianity, like all religion, is used to manipulate and control people.

Very cliche. The classic ''I had the cure all along'' trope, the triangle - which wasn't very triangley as she seemed pretty set on Sam for almost the entire time.
Nevertheless it was a nice simple read, and the disease theme was enjoyable to read about given the current covid-19 crisis as it feels like more of a real threat.

I have really enjoyed this series. It's a new spin on a dystopian world. Most books focus on adults in situations like this; while this book is strictly told from a young adults perspective. Ruby has the best people surrounding her. Sam and Westley are both phenomenal characters and each shine in this series in their own ways. I love it. 20% through the 3rd book and I will be sad to see it end.

I liked this book, but it wasn't quite as good as the first. And once again, it felt like a rush job. It just doesn't have the same quality as many great books I've read.

Ruby is so whiny and annoying. And the love triangle thing is so cliche and overdone, even cumbersome to the story. It's like the serious end-of-the-world virus stuff is just a backdrop for the story of this awful love triangle, when for a good dystopian novel it should be the other way around. (Or preferably, no love triangle at all.) The boys fight over her like she's not even a person, and she lets them.

There's not as much action in this one as the first, and not really an twists or surprises. The premise makes it sound so exciting, but it kind of disappoints. There's not enough present danger to make it feel serious, so it almost feels like they're just running around playing. I also felt that what happens at the beginning of this book (you know the part I mean) probably would have made a better ending for the first book. It would have left a cliffhanger, but it might have been a more natural point to stop and then lift off again for this second book in the aftermath. Oh well.

The characters and dialogue still feel wishy-washy and unnatural to me. Her mother is the worst of them all. But I'll keep reading because there's still a lot to resolve and I need to know what happens.

Good continuation

As a Christian, I struggled with the theological insinuations. Culture deteroriates because of half truths and this book definitely uses Scripture and gives its own twist on the meanings. I don't like how it portrays faithful people in such a negative light. It only shows twisted "believers" but not genuine ones. Overall tho the story is great. I'd recommend for people solid in their Christian beliefs who can recognize Truth.

More enthralling reading from the pen of Bridget Baker.

More anguish and adventures for Ruby in her struggle for life and to be a happy young female with family. But there are many issues and particularly relatives and ambitious other people determined to have their way, but unfortunately Ruby is in the way of their plans.

The death of 'Marked' citizens seriously disturbs Ruby's thoughts and feelings, especially knowing her families involvement in this World Wide tragedy. She along with certain other friends and relatives want to bring forth a cure that they believe may be in their grasp, however, much experimental work needs to be performed to confirm their ideas. Not so easy to gather all the equipment, test gear, personnel and medical supplies needed to do this work because of the dark forces determined that they do not succeed.

A strange turn of events involving her new mother has Ruby's mind in turmoil again, is this really her mother who is behaving like she is? Ruby has much discussing and investigating to try to get to the truth about this issue. She certainly makes some inroads into this task but is still not an easy pathway for such a young lass.

Ruby has hopefully found a true love but is at times somewhat confused by feelings for her best friend who she has known for a long time and spent her very young years with, she is confused and receives several mixed messages at times from her two loves. Who does actually claim her heart forever, a missing part of her life for many years and one she is wanting to help complete herself.

Ruby, along with her friends and relatives who want to help her solve and heal the serious health issues of the Marked humans, continually face overwhelming opposition to their plans from a particular human branch who only want to annihilate these unfortunate people, desperately ill through not fault of their own. Ruby and her team have nothing but deep seated compassion to cure them, but how do they navigate these dark forces who seem to have considerable power and resources at their disposal and only want to prevent the do gooders from succeeding.

During all the struggling against the so called enemies, a very bad event leaves Ruby totally lost and her heart is shattered beyond belief. She still continues with her quest maintaining hope in her heart that what she has learnt is not true and goodness will prevail thus making her complete again under the circumstances. What would do this to Ruby?

Amongst all the tragedy an event arises that Ruby plays a large part with and the result of this provides an answer in some way to seeking a cure for the sick they are desperately wanting to cure. This event occupies quite some time in the stories and an answer maybe evident later on, it is in the end a very touching scenario.

Life is not always uncompromising for Ruby and she does receive some wonderful news that she feels makes her almost complete again, but does it last? Another person enters the story and has a very marked affect on the aims of Ruby and the team, this person is also a real surprise to many and even they find it difficult to realise who is who in this saga. Also their role is not at times pleasant and leaves Ruby and her team in danger and not sure who can be trusted behind the scenes. Maybe in time this person will be cured and make good with the many people Ruby has gathered to help in this fight against the scourge devastating the earth. There is quite an array of people from many different walks of life wanting to find a cure and they are very inspired by this young lass wanting the best for humanity whether she knows them or not.

This is another enthralling story presented by Bridget Baker and again this keeps you guessing where is the story going next. It is pretty complicated really when one considers this story commenced in book 1 and how it interlocks with this one. I find it so interesting, how does Bridget come up with all the many scenarios in these stories, and still one more book to go. Not everybody enjoys the same tale telling, but I confess BB is one of my fav authors, I really enjoy her ability to combine her tale telling and all the various scenarios she comes up with. It is I am sure not an easy task to be such a great writer as I believe Bridget to be, as I said no everyone enjoys the same stories but it is a personal issue as to what one likes and does not. Another appealing issue is that all her stories are clean stories and wow that is a change from many books around today.

I provided this review of my own free will without influence or promise from any other person or company. Also I trust it assists the author because one sees that most of the reputable authors state that reviews certainly assist them so I want to be of assistance in this small way.

This series has me wrapped in it's grip. Each book gets better and better. The book is infectious just like the virus that is featured in it. Although it's filled with death due to the virus, it also has many twists that will throw you for a loop.
Book 2 picks up right where the first one left off. Ruby had discovered that king Solomon was her father. He was an abusive man who only cared about himself. After Ruby shot him with darts she found in his possession, one was the virus and the other an accelerator, the king needed Ruby back. He wanted her blood so hopefully he would be cured. Ruby's other father Donavon Bell had given Ruby antibodies so she was immune to the virus. He desperately lured Ruby back to the island with the promise to see her love Sam. Not trusting the king or her own mother Josephine, she was very cautious but not cautious enough. The king threw her and Westleigh in prison & intended to leave them there so Ruby would be his personal blood bank. Ruby found out the king had lied and Sam was alive. He rescued Ruby & Westleigh and they once again started searching for the cure. She knew from her fathers journals there was a cure, they just had to find it. In the meantime, Ruby kept donating her blood and it did help but didn’t cure.
There are so many intriguing facets to this story that it will grip you in its clutches and keep you turning the pages.

I agree that this book exudes the same allure as *Twilight*, featuring intense romantic dynamics and an action-packed storyline. The protagonist, Ruby, finds herself caught between two compelling love interests: Sam, the strong, silent, indestructible super soldier, and Wesley, the witty, charming, and totally-in-love-with-her friend.

As Ruby navigates this complex love triangle, the stakes are raised even higher by a world teetering on the brink of collapse. Everyone around her seems to have their own agenda, with desperate individuals seeking to exploit Ruby's unique potential for their survival. Tyrannical parents impose their will, trying to control her every move, while self-appointed leaders vie for ultimate power, willing to take drastic measures to achieve their goals.

Amidst the chaos, Ruby must discern friend from foe, all while grappling with her own feelings and the burden of being the key to humanity's salvation. This gripping YA series masterfully blends romance, action, and intrigue, making it a must-read for fans of dystopian fiction.

From the opening pages, the tension grips you—Ruby's boyfriend might be dead, her best friend clings to life, and the man she believed to be her father could be an imposter . The stakes rise when a fanatical cult leader demands her blood—a decision that could mean life or death for the “Marked.” As the story unfolds, Ruby’s courage, wit, and vulnerability make her impossible not to root for.

What truly elevates Suppressed is the storytelling. Bridget E. Baker expertly weaves plot twists with emotional honesty—moments of despair spark flashes of hope.

This is a sequel that doesn’t plateau—it accelerates. Many second installments drag, but Suppressed propels forward with adrenaline, emotion, and high-stakes drama .

In short: Suppressed isn’t just a worthy follow-up—it’s a standout on its own. With vivid characters, heart-pounding decisions, and a story that doesn't let go, it deserves every one of its 5 stars.

This second novel in the Sins of Our Ancestors was exciting to read. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first novel. I wish that Ruby had still been upset that Wesley almost infected her. I am glad she forgave him, but I wish she would have pointed out that Sam was the better man because Sam is always looking to protect her and Wesley was self-centered. Ruby was a bit self-centered this time around, too. I hated that she kissed Wesley the second time and that she didn't tell Sam. I hope that she and Sam work things out in book 3 which I have already ordered from the library! These books are pretty clean. It has some teenage romance, but is pretty clean. It is a mature theme, so good read for adults.

Getting better, can’t wait for the next!

I know I had a lot to say about the last book in the series, there’s a bit less in this one. I like the sequel better than the original. The thing that still bothers me the most is a common trope that many people enjoy: the love triangle. I get really sick of stupid teenage boys posturing and acting cocky to the point where they put themselves (not to mention the girl they both love) in mortal danger. And I hate the implied weakness when the protagonist can’t make up her mind and referees fights instead of just deciding. That being said, I enjoyed this book anyways. The story is compelling, and the world the author has created is engaging. I absolutely have to find out what happens next!

Get ready for a wild adventure with so many twists and turns—just amazing! This story made me cry, cheer, and chuckle out loud. Ruby tries so hard to do the right thing, even when so much prevents her from doing what she really wants. Yet she never stops trying. I love her tenacity.

This book has great banter between the characters. I love the world-building, the plot, the relationships, and the struggle. So much action is packed into this story that it’s impossible to put down once you start reading (I should know, I started it after midnight and finished reading at 6 am!) Another masterfully written episode in an epic struggle for survival.

This book kept me on the edge of my seats with the unforeseen twists and turns! I cannot believe this was a second book of a trilogy; usually, the second book is boring and just a segue into the last piece. Suppressed started off with a plot twist and only got more interesting! I absolutely love Ruby’s personality and found myself laughing out loud at her cynicism and sarcasm throughout! I can’t wait to read the last book, but as my daughter says, I am not ready for this book series to end! I think a movie series is in the future!!

For every problem that occurs, the author pulls a solution out of thin air. lol

Oh no, they don't know how to escape! Don't worry, one person from the group knows an odd tidbit of information to get them out of the mess. Sometimes the bit of information isn't even that strange for a person to know but then the author gives a weird wordy back story on why the person knows it.

Ruby has no character development, mostly because her character traits change every few pages.

I honestly don't know if I can even deal with the final installment.

Out of the first three this one was my favorite. I wouldn't rate it higher though. Some parts really surprised me and I was even left jaw hanging at some points lol. Wes is best character and I stand by that whole heartedly. Little comic relief during the apocalypse.

I was able to get the first three of this series for one credit on audible and I don't think I would have gotten it other wise. I am not the target demographic, if I was younger and more religious this would have probably been my favorite series.

I would rate it a high 2, close to 3 but not quite.

Let me just say, the first chapter made me mad and I almost didn’t want to keep reading. However, I knew it couldn’t be true. And just to be sure I looked up my question😅

Anyways, usually 2nd books in a series are slow and not as entertaining as others. However, this book still kept me entertained and still had me wanting more after each chapter. I wasn’t expecting the way this book ended, but I’m interested to know what happens in the 3rd book.

Amazing

This series is so good. The second book was just as amazing as the first. The story flows so well it feels like you are with Ruby and the others every step of the way. There are some shocking incidents and some more questions that need to be answered. Ruby is so strong and able to over come all the obstacles that come her way. My number one requirement to read a book is a strong heroine. And Ruby fits the bill. She may get knocked down, but she gets back up swinging.

After reading this book, I wanted to write and post this review to share my honest experiences toward the story.
I really enjoyed reading this sequel, it was a gripping and suspenseful read. I cannot begin to describe how intense the story was in book 2, how you truly feel for the characters and got so absorbed in the plot. Definitely would recommend this to lovers of post apocalyptic dystopian fiction.

A Great Second Book

This book was just as good, if not better, than the first!!! It really draws you further into the story and gives you answers to questions that you may not have yet realized you were asking! I normally would have only given this 4 stars, due to some grammatical errors and repetitive moments, but the story is SO awesome that I got past those few issues and had to give 5 stars! Can't wait to read "Redeemed!"

Family is more the blood.

Another gripping storry with a few revelations and surprises. I am really enjoying this series. The love triangle made me think twice initially, but it will resolve itself naturally. Ruby is becoming more capable, and her journey of self-discovery has been painful and tragic, but she has grown so much in the process. Solid friendships made along the way have helped to find her true destiny.

Dystopian magic!

I don’t know how these authors have the imagination to not only create characters and plots but entire worlds that are so different from our own.

The love triangle in this series reminds me of the hunger games. The storyline is closer to Divergent, but still so much different. Truly a unique and creative story.
